McBurnie yesterday

Fair enough. I don't really think anyone hates him or wants him to fail but I think his criticism has been justified. As you say let's see how he does with more creative players in the squad, should they get game time. For me he doesn't get into the right positions to score goals. Posters reckon we play him as a target man which we may have done when he first arrived but since then he seems to want to play as a deeper 10 role, linking play near the corner flags. He won't score many a season from those positions even when fully fit. Like everything else, just an opinion.
In fairness, the stick he gets on this board from a minority is hatred and I am sure a poster on this thread said that they hated him

It isn't McBurnie's fault we bought him for a large fee. There is no doubt in my mind that he always gives 100% when he plays( unlike Lundstram in the last 6 months with us) however, it is plain to see that, at the moment, his performances are awful.

Despite this, I think booing him when he came on as a sub last season was a new low for some Blades fans as I believe that, as long as a player gives 100% it is down to the manager to resolve performance issues. Booing a player before even kicking a ball can only adversely affect confidence.

Can he improve ? I hope he can as we may need him due to the injury situation but I have my doubts especially as I can't see the kind of role he should be playing in the team. He isn't a target man but is reasonable in the air but doesn't appear to have the technical ability to be a second striker .

It doesn't help when he appears to be an idiot off the field and this will right cloud some fans' judgement of him on the pitch even if he plays well

Wasting you time lads a lot have an agenda against McBurnie, I'm seeing a lot of this on every McBurnie thread ......... You are ignoring content by this member.
Makes the forum much more sensible, just saying :)

For what it's worth I'm sure in Oli's opinion, he'd agree that he's not a 20 million pound player.

This is one of the stupidest arguments anyone can put forward regarding Oli or any other player.

100% he's not been good enough, nobody can argue that.
But was it Oli that made Utd pay that amount of money for him? Should that be held against him?

How much a player costs shouldn't be considered, because it's not down to the player. It's the fuckwits who brought him in to the club that need to be held accountable, not Oli.

Should he have gone for a ball he realistically wasn't going to win on Sunday? Definitely not.
Was it his man, was the goal solely his fault? Definitely not.

He's not been good enough at what he was brought in to do for sure, but defending set pieces he's usually pretty reliable at what he's asked to do (BEING THE SPARE MAN TO ATTACK THE BALL).

He shouldn't have played so good for swansea to lead us to believe he was worth £20m

The absolute bastard.
How dare he have a good season and score loads of goals when they were put on a plate for him, then sign for a club where he's expected to create something out of nothing 40 yards from goal. Inconsiderate c*nt!!

Create something out of nothing from 40 years!!!!!!!!!! shooting like hes not wearing flippers, not running like he's had 15 pints the night before and not heading great chances onto his shoulder would do me and most fans

I like him. Always seems like a positive influence around the place. Giving players aggressive hugs, that sort of thing.

It'd be hard to argue he's been a major success (yet) out on the pitch - which you might reasonably argue is more to the point, but here's hoping he gets a run in the side, comes good, and sticks in 22 goals in 42 games like he did for Swansea.

According to Wikipedia he was Barnsley's Player of the Year (based on only half a season) under Heckingbottom so maybe Hecky knows how to get the best out of him.

He's clearly got potential, it'd just be nice to see that realised in a United shirt sometime soon.

Are you on the sauce already?
If ever anyone lived up to their username....

I was mainly referring to the relegation season with that remark. We created next to nothing all season long.
He took a lot of flack for that season where others seem to have got away scot-free.

He's never been able to strike a ball cleanly, something that should have been picked up on by the recruitment team. Again not his fault.
I've played at various levels of the game, I've played with players who were fast as fuck but couldn't ever strike a ball and I've played with big fat lumps who had absolute cannons. It's something you can or can't do. Training can improve it slightly, but he'll never strike a ball as well as say someone like Brewster will.

If he was missing a multitude of chances week in, week out, I could kind of get behind all the criticism.
He just looks like a player completely devoid of any sort of confidence to me.

First season, did relatively well, finished joint top scorer with the Hamburglar. Not a lot of complaints from the majority of the fanbase for that season (he's always going to have haters for what he wears/how he wears his socks/lives the lifestyle he does),

Second season, wasn't anywhere near good enough, same with the entire squad.

Third season, hampered by injuries/illness for a large chunk of the season, couldn't get a string of games together in any way shape or form. Some decent performances, some not so decent performances. Not good enough in summary.

Fourth season, 10 minutes off of the bench after a negative manager refuses to make changes until it's near enough too late.
In the eyes of the agenda horde, responsible for the equalising goal.
In the eyes of people with football brains, not so.

He had a great season at Swansea with two out and out wingers either side of him, doing all the fancy stuff and feeding him in the box.
We've got wing-backs who cannot/will not put decent balls in to the box, or decide to do a stupid little cruyff turn and pass the ball back to Norwood.
The strikers never know when the ball is coming in to the box so they stop making the runs they should (apart from Billy, but he's a different breed).

If McBurnie was a free transfer he’d have gone elsewhere like Burke but because he cost 20m we have to try and get something from him so Hecky is trying to get blood from a stone with this one. He wank and we’re stuck with him until next year
We don't 'need' to do anything. We're choosing to. Big difference fella.

He wasn't his man 🤣 he's always the spare man attacking the ball at defensive set pieces
Are you under the impression that the players mark the same man for the rest of the match once a set piece is taken? He clearly ends up with him, whether it started off that way or not, you don't just waltz off and leave him on his own.

Bit personal.
I'm sure he does wank but it's none of your business.

Eh- he's played 88 times for us and scored 7 goals, that's not potential it's pathetic?
We can all cherry pick stats to our heart's content.

He got 22 in 42 for Swansea in the Championship, which is where we are now. So, Yes, he's got potential.

Well said.
Let’s get behind him, hope that his court case doesn’t have an adverse effect and see what contributions he can make.

How about this argument.....McB didn't pick his value we agreed and paid it, not his fault. Take the money out then, can we agree that his impact has been disappointing, even by his own standards, for various reasons. I would love to see him working hard, training hard and scoring goals. Will he do that, that's up to him. Would I like him to do that and fire us up to the Prem, yes definitely. So get frustrated but support him on the pitch while he is here. UTB

Hecky “George, first corner, you take their number 9, Anel, second one you. Then take it in turns. First free kick to defend Eags he’s yours. Second, Norrie, your turn. OliMac, when you come on, because Bettis makes me play you, attack corner on every second time. On free kicks first, third, fifth etc etc etc.

Wilf, you’re the zone man”

I honestly can not believe some blades still cling on to some blind hope that mcburnie will come good. If you've really watched him for 3 seasons and take off your rose tinted I must back every player in red an white glasses you will realise how shit the kid really is. It's not just blades that think it most people who know football I speak to always comment "that mcburnie is fucking shite"

No idea what all of that means. Oliver McBurnie found himself with a man six yards out, and left him stood all alone to score a goal. If you can't see that was the wrong decision then I don't know what else to say.

I do hope McBurnie scores loads. I hope all our strikers score loads. I want us to hammer teams every week and win this division and get promoted.

However, realistically I don’t think that McBurnie will score anywhere near double figures this season or indeed any other Championship season. Years of watching United have made me very much a realist, rather than a dreamer.

It's not his man brain box
I'm not saying it was! Someone last his man from the original set piece, Egan also lost his header.... both faults. But that doesn't change the fact that McBurnie should take responsibility for who he's ended up with, and not just leave him all alone six yards out. It's suicidal defending.
