McBurnie yesterday

If it was Ahmedhodzic’s man, then the communication has to be on him, not McBurnie. I don’t think Ahmedhodzic was the free man. He was just trying to avoid getting crowded out (which was a bad choice). Heckingbottom will have given them instructions, so there’s no reason to think that Ahmedhodzic should be assuming anything. I’m nowhere near McBurnie’s biggest fan, but he’s been scapegoating for that goal by people that can’t bring themselves to accept that Ahmedhodzic might have been at fault.
Normally McBurnie is the spare man when he’s on. He shouldn’t have a man to pick up, if he does someone has fucked up.
His agreed role defensively in that situation is zonal. If you’re saying the spare man should notice someone has left their man and pick them up you’re going to be all over the place.
You do your job and trust others to do theirs otherwise its a free for all.

How many points does that earn us? How far up the table does it move us?
None and none. Strange questions.

Long term absentee through illness, professionalism, injury. Speaks well, shows he's up for it, talks a good mentality despite coming in for relentless flack. Eager to get back involved, eager to play. That's it.

More than others have shown, John Lundstram?

Now, on to match day. Let's see how he does.

He definitely wasn't supposed to be marking anyone. He (and McGoldrick) have always been used as the spare man to attack the ball from defensive set pieces.

From the stills, it looks to me like the goal scorer was supposed to be marked by Ahmedhodzic. It's not clear why he isn't tighter on him. Presumably he didn't want to get blocked off.

As it happens, Ahmedhodzic ends up getting blocked by McBurnie (who is attacking the ball, which he's supposed to do - albeit miles away).

...leaving a free header, and Ahmedhodzic not tight enough.

No! NO! It's fucking McBurnie's fault alright!!!

He is always the spare man attacking the ball, literally always. He never has a man marking job. Why people thought he had is beyond me.

1. He can be the most ineloquent prick on the earth if he's firing us to promotion.

2. How long til the penny drops with some. How long are you giving him?

Billy Sharp never has the centres half's job either, but I'm pretty sure if he found himself in that position in the 82nd minute while defending a lead, he wouldn't run off and leave the striker on his own 6 yards out.

He wasn't his man 🤣 he's always the spare man attacking the ball at defensive set pieces

1. True.

2. I've hardly been a staunch defender of McBurnie. If anything, given that I'm usually a positive poster, I've been really critical of him. How he applies himself, his movement, the positions he gets in to, his conduct off the field. The thing is, if we stop this useless idea of him being a target man, and play in to him like Swansea did, we might see some return. We finally have the clever players to provide that supply too. Problem is, it's like we've coached all of that nous out of him...

Like I say, on to match day to start proving himself...

He did a fucking sterling job doing that though, eh?

pommpey
No, he missed it, so did everyone else bar the Boro lad who nodded it to his team mate who was wide open

No way on earth are you and others trying to blame McBurnie for us not winning 🤣 🤣 there's agendas and there's plain crazy

Fair point in his limited defence. Because the midfield is a simply a beaker full of piss, he has to do what N'Daiye and Sharp does these days that being fetch and carry from the wings because they are sat high-fiving Norwood lumping it out to the flanks. If it does get into the crossing zone, its weakly hoofed at the front man or is two metres over everyone's heads and sails over the box.

Let me get this clear. There is no agenda.

McBurnie has been here three years and save for a brief spell with six goals has not returned any of his price tag, particularly when we needed him to last season.

Hook that into his personal behaviour and conduct and you don't have a lot to get a stiffy on about. The red flashing alarm with 'LIABILITY' on it is blinking and has for some time. £20m is a lot of money for someone who doesn't look anywhere near Championship standard do you not agree? He was signed as a Premier League player and played there. Can you honestly say he is that these days? Especially with poor judgements like Saturday? And his upcoming court case?

IQ of 137 last time I did a test by the way. Not that that means anything.

There is no agenda at all with the folk that have concluded MCB is not good enough. The only agenda is talking on a forum and saying he's a massive useless oaf, if he suddenly turned it around and starting banging them in, WE would say magnificent he's hit a bit of form.

But so far what you and Fallow see in him is not not what 99.9% of like minded supporters see- we see someone who we never want to see ion a blades shirt ever again- you and him and about 2 others for some insane reason want to persevere- the rest of us DO NOT.

Fair enough. I don't really think anyone hates him or wants him to fail but I think his criticism has been justified. As you say let's see how he does with more creative players in the squad, should they get game time. For me he doesn't get into the right positions to score goals. Posters reckon we play him as a target man which we may have done when he first arrived but since then he seems to want to play as a deeper 10 role, linking play near the corner flags. He won't score many a season from those positions even when fully fit. Like everything else, just an opinion.

99.9%..? Bollocks! Speak for yourself, not the rest of us.

I have no idea why you support United, it’s beyond me. You’re the most boring and miserable bastard on here.

Also 99.99% is a sweeping generalisation, where did you get those figures?

Straight to the ad hominem. Well done.

Argue the fucking point, why don't you?

This is about people's opinions about a Sheffield United player, not what you think about people's character because they don't share your point of view.

First of all you populate shoutbox with unencrypted asides about people's IQs (like it matters much) and then you kick off about people being 'boring' because they wish to discuss Oliver McBurnie's current situation at Sheffield United, given he appeared in a presser yesterday and his brief appearance on Saturday raises talking points.

Not sharing your viewpoint is not a crime, and it isn't one to start with the personal slurs either.

If you feel people are wrong, provide evidence.

People don’t like to ‘discuss’ Oli. They like to blame him for anything and everything they can.

You really must have nothing to do in the day the amount of arguments you like to try and get into 😂 dull as owt

Again, 'pommpey' and not 'the subject'

He doesn't pick up the blame for the first goal. Nor Watford's. Nor JO'Cs injury. Or the state of the training facilities. Nor even catering in the BL end. He's not at fault for our exit from the playoffs. He didn't headbutt Billy Sharp. He's not to blame for Norwood's game, Fleck's collapse or our merry go round of goalkeepers last season.

So ... 'everything'? These are the things, amongst others, we have discussed on shoutbox and the board in the past year.

But he has failed to deliver, been injured for too long, performed poorly, shithoused the officials and scored one solitary goal. And you're cross because we expect more for a near record transfer fee?

Nice- I'm quite a happy chap generally- but McB does make me a bit miserable you are right.

The figures we gleaned from a straw poll of about 20 mates - all Blades - and the concensus was actually 100% - we all think he's not worth the 23 million we paid.

Its not just blades fans, look on the Scottish football forums, 99.99% think he's useless too

Even McBurnie himself has admitted he's 'been shit' and since he made that comment he's got even worse

It's going up, it'll be £24m tomorrow
