I’ll give a true example and you can bet it’s happened to many. My Wednesdayite pal (doesn’t go to their matches anymore) likes how Man City play and asked if I could get him a ticket and he’ll pay me.

Told him he needed to register, he just laughed and said he refuses to be on any United database.

I suspect when we play the likes of Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool etc there’s easily a 5K demand from neutrals who just want to see a top class team live.

I know the capacity has been reduced slightly for the benches and cameras etc but from my vantage point on the Kop I was stunned with the 28,600 they put up

Maybe you would, although I’m not sure how that would actually work, other than you making sure you didn’t get tickets for some nutter who’s going to spark out the first person who shouts “Ollie, you’re shit”.

I’m not convinced all our season ticket holders would be as responsible though.

It would be nice if someone at the club could be bothered to give an explanation but communication doesn’t seem to be our strongest point at the moment.

It never is two minutes and if you’re not a fan it’s an hassle. Far easier to ask someone (me) who’s a season ticket to pick up some tickets for them. But like it or not some people just won’t be bothered with the hassle of registering oline for adults and kids. Human nature.

It’s almost like United don’t need the money. Just as well, they ain’t getting it now.

Forest play off match, my gran-daughter who goes to games as a pay on the day supporter wanted to go but couldn't get a ticket as she has no purchase history her dad buys her tickets, would they let him get her a ticket would they fuck as like. She was trying to get a half season ticket last season nope they don't do them any more, luckily her dad managed to get her a Season Ticket this summer but for her to go to the Forest play off match we had to get her a ticket using my customer number I watched the game on TV. It would have been the same if I wanted to take the wife to that game she has a customer number but no history of buying tickets I always got them for her yeah they are happy for her to spend money in the shop buying shirts but a match ticket was not allowed for that game. Meanwhile Forest fans were given more seats than we needed to give them in a home area where we had season ticket holders who had to be moved. The crazy ticketing policy of SUFC.

I don't think the justification is there to increase the stadium capacity until we've had two or three years in the Premier League, because its all week and good attracting 85%-90% capacity in the Championship and selling out when times are good when we make it to the top flight, but over the last few years I've also seen us with parts of the ground closed when we have haven't been challenging in the top half of league one, and we only sold out a couple of times for a League game in League One, and for a lot of the time we was getting 18k grounds and the atmosphere was shit with the ground just over half full.

If we are going to do anything, a new double tiered kop would be the way to go, but until we are established in the PL, that will always be a theoretical question.

On the whole - over the last 15 years our attendance's have been really good. I remember the club saying they needed to average 16.5k to break even some years ago - we are now disappointed to get 25k.

We have a great opportunity (how many times have we said that) to push on in the next few years and i can see us regularly filling a 40k stadium if we can put a stay together in the prem . Others have done it .

We need though to make it much much more easier for people to buy tickets for friends / family etc for higher profile games -

Tickets for Millwall and Sunderland games on general sale. Loads left. Great opportunity to get a buying history. Appreciate Millwall is not Liverpool, Man U or Forest play off but it is 3pm on Saturday. Toilets on kop are pretty crap though for those without buying history.

As I recall, the JSS plans submitted in the mid nineties went much higher and had to be scaled back, presumably because of objections by John St residents who didn’t want to live in the shadow of a taller stand, blocking out even more light, though I don’t know for sure that was the reason.

Not sure how it worked but for the Forest play off game many fans had difficulties getting tickets for family members even those with season tickets because they had no purchase history, it was a glitch in the system or something if you were buying online. Queuing at the ticket office was not an option nor was getting through by telephone while at work. Making it a free for all to ST holders broke the system for that game.

It would never happen, as it would mean removing one or both levels of corporate facilities to replace with seating. That, or an additional tier above the corporate area (which may not be possible due to height, as you say) would solve the capacity problem that the John Street stand has, and balance the stadium.

As I say though, that's just in an ideal world as the stand is far too small. It wouldn't even be on the club's radar unless something amazing happened to our fortunes.

I always buy on general sale as I'm a last minute 'can I make it?' fan due to distance, work and family crap, but I rarely struggle to get to a game.

Took my old man to his first game in over a decade last season as well, due to ill health. Set him up a customer number, linked it to my account, 4 tickets together on GS. It's not as difficult as people make out.

I accept I probably won't get a ticket to a derby, play off semi, local away game etc... But I'm going to Watford on Monday, again on GS.

It's quite clearly a control mechanism, so you get a ticket, with a seat number, so they can identify you if any issues arise. They'll have your name, address, and phone number (or that of the person buying you the ticket). We live in one of the most big brother countries in the world with cctv everywhere watching you're every move.

As for the ticketing policy, it is a bit stupid one ticket per customer, and it was difficult getting my daughter a ticket for the first prem season (couldn't actually get her one), but managed to sort a kids season ticket last year, so at least now she has purchase history for next year when we go up again

I get the club wanted to make the PL games available to our supporters by limiting access to those without purchase history, but I shouldn't have to take my daughter to a League Cup game against Crewe to just get a purchase history to enable to get a ticket for Palace. Just fucking stupid.

Surely as a business you would want to grow your business. And for SUFC that means more bums on seats. (Spend in the club shop, etc etc)

The issue is you have is, in order to expand your base. You would need to temporarily reduce your existing one. And ideally you would want to do this only over a period of 3-4 months. (Pre season)

I'm sure we would have already done a feasibility study on various scenarios. In fact I seem to remember that extending the KOP back and removing the posts was the preferred solution. For me it isn't the ideal solution but I suppose the club would rather not lose match day income by closing an entire stand - and the grief of moving fans elsewhere whilst the work is carried out.

I think the club will only seriously consider major changes if we are a regular PL club and not in danger of relegation. Of course it's the most Blades thing ever to allocate serious £ and time to a major project. And then get relegated. Didn't this happen in the 70s?

If you want people to buy something, shouldn’t it be the case that you make it as convenient as possible for them? Committed fans are quite rightly prioritised; but helping occasional ‘part-timers’ can create new regulars, as well as providing short-term income.

An old trick that we used to do the same to tired and faded car body mouldings like on the old Vauxhall Corsa wheel arches, made the car look like new after a paint job although we used a hot air gun rather than a flame thrower. Maybe that's where we went wrong when fixing Vauxhall Corsa's
