Bramall Lane

It would never happen, as it would mean removing one or both levels of corporate facilities to replace with seating. That, or an additional tier above the corporate area (which may not be possible due to height, as you say) would solve the capacity problem that the John Street stand has, and balance the stadium.

As I say though, that's just in an ideal world as the stand is far too small. It wouldn't even be on the club's radar unless something amazing happened to our fortunes.

Seats could be built above the corporate boxes and out over John Street

The residents complained in the mid 90's, but are there any left now ?

Like the old Daihatsu I used to drive, John Street seats are turning pink:

Is this the solution?

I had that job at one time but soon got sacked. I used to turn up half pissed 10 minutes late then fuck off for a piss every 15 minutes throughout my shift before knocking off 10 minutes early to go & stand on the steps at top of gangway C.
Force of habit 🤷🏼‍♂️

That would be the ideal yeah.

A lot of those houses are probably only student accommodation nowadays, so probably wouldn't be as big of an issue, if it even was an issue in the first place. I can't remember the club ever giving a reason for building it so small, as it was logical at the time anyway.

Ideally you would knock The current Kop down, remove the old standing Kop which is still underneath and build a proper Kop stand like at Anfield.

However we can’t afford to do that so the McCabe envisioned bolt on extension and a new roof is the best we can hope for. At least that would put the facilities under cover and remove the columns. Also with the new proposed exit stairs and turnstiles on Shoreham St would allow McCabe to do what he wants with the John St corner and not effect us.

Isn’t the biggest obstacle to ground redevelopment nationally the right to light rather than plans being opposed?

Building on the John Street or Bramall Lane side is impossible. The only scope for expansion is the Cherry Street and Shoreham street sides

Not impossible, but you’d have to demolish them and start again. The foot print of the current John Street stand could have quiet easily accommodated a much larger two tiered stand. Unfortunately our crowds at the time didn’t warrant such a mega structure.

Bramall Lane is a reserved route for any possible Super tram extension to the West of the City.. I think its a 100 year thing since 1994
I think that’s been relaxed a bit now if you look at the new developments which have encroached on the land strip that was meant to have been left.

It’d be a huge engineering to build over Bramall Lane anyway and not one I think we’d get the right backing for.

Wish we could just knock the kop down and start again, same with John St, which could be moved 10 yards closer to the pitch

Need to be in the PL though don't we..... and not completely and utterly waste it again

I imagine the landlords might have something to say about it, and probably want more than their pound of flesh.

Building over John St is a non-starter, notwithstanding the legal issue above, for a myriad of reasons.

Safe standing on the Kop and a new tier on the South Stand are the two most likely significant improvements. The latter would give us the opportunity to completely overhaul our executive / commercial offer. The former would bolster the atmosphere, which I do believe the Prince understands can demonstrably contribute to our fortunes on the pitch. Which ultimately helps our bottom line. See MUFC match in the Prem for example.

I agree, as I said above it won't even be on the club's radar. The ground would look a tad ridiculous if the South Stand had a tier added and John Street remained with it's current capacity though.

It’ll be interesting to see how the power of an autocratic oil state is brought to bear over Newcastle’s planning department. They’ve basically had half a new stadium since the John Hall era.

Is the capacity again reduced? It says 31,884 on the video.

Following the changes in 2007 it was just shy of 33k. I know this was reduced a few years ago, when we made some changes for our last stint in the PL, but thought it was reduced to around 32,200.

Where have the 1,000 seats gone?

Gone to Luton

Sorry I'll get my coat.

I love Bramall Lane, it has loads of potential.
One thing McCabe did do was invest a bit in the stadium.

It was 32,050 for 22/23 (when the Kop was fully open). If that changes for any reason it’ll be in the safety certificate, which will be reissued this summer.
Do you know if this number excluded the seats netted off on the BL stand for every game? I am guessing it did, as we can never sell them.

That is the total taking into account the restrictions on the various stands (covered a bit more here in the Kop thread).
