Monty Gone to Millwall ?

Now on the official site. It says till the end of the season, but presumably we could recall him after a month in the event Doyle is suddenly missing.

And of course he could be nice and ready for a run at the playoffs ;-)

That's nailed-on then: Several MoM awards; player of the month, etc.

Somehow I doubt that this is going to happen. I predict that he will carry on in the same manner which he has done at Utd for the past 10 years. Continually 'putting a shift in', covering every blade of grass with his great engine. Then when the time comes to pass a football he will be seen pinging balls at worried fans sat in the stands instead of the 10 yards straight to his team mate. Make a sliding tackle as his 2nd touch and be unable to shoot or cross.
That said, although I don't think much of his footballing ability, I kind of like him and wish the Horse faced Zidane all the very best.

Could have sworn I saw him make a peach of a cross to Paul Peschisolido in our 4-0 defeat of Birmingham. Peschisolido scored from the cross. I also seem to remember that Monty opened the scoring that day.

And just to show he can cross low as well as high, he set up Ward at The Hawthornes in our 2-0 win there whilst Gary megson was still their manager. Lovely low pull back straight to Ward so that all he had to do was tap it in. That game was one of the most impressive away performances I have ever seen from United.

Wow, that is quite an exceptional record for 385 competitive games. 2 examples of passing to a team mate which lead to a goal as well as scoring one too! (10 goals in total for the blades by the way) I fully accept that not every pass was spooned into row Z and that occasionally he played pretty well, he is a professional footballer for gods sake! He is just very limited and in my opinion, not good enough for championship level. His disciplinary record on the other hand is pretty impresive (or worrying?) for a defensive midfielder. Never sent off and only 45 yellows.

Seem to remember he played a blinder at The Lane in the cup replay against Arsenal and virtually completely shut down Vierra. Was also doing quite well at Highbury in the first match in spite of a dreadful foul on him by one of their players, who really should have been sent off, and aquitted himself well every time I saw him play in the premier league. The Tottenham game in particular was a very good one from him. And in the promotion season our midfield functioned at it's best in the first half of the season with Ifill, Jagielka, Quinn (Alan) and , yes - Montgomery. More recently I could have sworn he scored a goal of the season contender at Tranmere. I could list many more examples of good matches by him, but feel I would be wasting my time. Those who don't rate him never will regardless of the evidence to the contrary.

If you think he has only provided two examples of good football in all his appearances I think you really must be having selective blind spots!

Pedantic point, but I did actually list 3 things!

Pedantic point but if you read it, I did mention 3 things! I also accept that now and then he has played well. I also have seen much better footballers slated continually at the lane and not lasted a tenth of the time Monty has. All because he runs his balls off and gives 100%, which should be a given for a well paid professional footballer. Even the most horse tinted glasses wearer will see that Monty simply isn't good enough on a consistent basis. His passing, shooting and crossing has been generally woeful. The ability to man mark a player out of the game might be enough once in a while but not over a season. If he could pass a ball then he would have been a legend. He can't and in my opinion, he isn't.

Well, without even trying I can remember he scored at Crewe, at Tranmere and at home to Birmingham. I would imagine his goals per game ratio is no worse than Doyle's. Not that I think Doyle is a bad player. He's doing well. And how many did McCall score for us? The point is he is a DEFENSIVE midfielder, and they don't usually score many goals.

Agreed, he's definitely not a legend, and his passing can often be wayward. But I feel he is one of those players that for some reason or another, people quickly forget (or turn a blind eye to) anything good that he does. Michael Tonge ended up suffering the same sort of treatment.

No mention by Wilson in his B/P interview of bringing in a replacement, even if we have freed up some wages.
Sounds more like he will get fit and then be ready for the play offs.
UTB

Will he be rooming with Darius, Millwall looking like our reserve team

a reserve team good enough for the championship !!! Whereas we struggle to get promoted from the division below with our supporters making scapegoats of players such as Quinn,Simmo etc

Personally I think the way we talk about some of our players is absolutely disgusting. We don't even describe Wednesday's lot the way we do our own. Some of you should be ashamed.

I don't. Monty is bobbar.

Have a scan through supporter reviews various (not just Deadbat's) ove the past ten years (mine included) and pull out the glittering praise for our midfield diesel-driven tractor. Show me some of the following:

" ... not a tackle was neshed and he won every ball, cleanly."
" ... cracked in a twenty-yard volley over the despairing grasp of the goalkeeper"
" ... neatly dispatched penalty."
" ... man of the match by a country mile."
" ... we'll be lucky to hang on to him come January."
" ... my mate who has contacts says Bolton and Sunderland have made a formal bid. Announcement tomorrow."
" ... every ball came through midfield and via him."
"Twice he steered a brilliant ball into the channels, once for our first goal and then resulting in the penalty."
" ... bent the ball round the wall and off the post into the net."
" ... slid in to make a superb tackle which the ref was happy to wave away any appeals."
" ... left the pitch to a standing ovation."
" ... looked up and lofted a superb pass onto the toes of the advancing attacker."

Nope?

More like:

" ... fucking woeful."
" ... gave the ball away too many times."
" ... found row Z."
" ... why the fuck he gets picked, I don't know."
" ... clumsy."
" ... miscued the cross with attackers in the box."
" ... ran the ball into touch when he should have controlled it."
" ... no control."
" ... another poor performance."

Now tell me what the fuck Sheffield United will miss when he's doofing the ball into the gardens of Londoners. Henderson must be holding his fucking head in despiar, having thought he'd got rid of the two-legged turd.

I'm ashamed of non-footballers earning obscene amounts of money for chasing shadows whilst wearing our shirt. I'm ashamed of managers who lack the courage or ability to fashion teams that at least try to play the game properly. I'm ashamed of fellow supporters who have no ambition beyond mediocrity and claim we should be thankful for it.

Let's hope Trading Standards don't get involved, we could be sued for falsely describing Monty as a footballer. Poor Millwall HAHAHAHAHAHA nailed on for relegation now.

At last we get rid of the yoke round our necks!!!, non footballers in our engine room. This is superb news, please please may millwall make it permanent!!!

half a dozen ok games a season & 30 plus shit ones does not a footballer make. No more guess work as we attempt to fathom the end position of the next scuff, the area of his next foul, the trip on his sen as he chases in vain a football player, the crosses which go sideways or backwards, the shots which are shinned to the wing

millwall thank you!!! thank you!!!

I have not at any time in any post read anything that suggests any poster on this forum has no ambition beyond mediocrity. That is a gross misrepresentation. Putting forward an argument that a particular player is perhaps unfairly criticised does not translate into 'let's all celebrate mediocrity'. Not to a rational person anyway.

The one blameless soul... Monty himself. All hail.

I think it is just about the right time for Monty to leave.

I can't believe how many people are queuing up to have a pop at him. He was a limited player, but a player who never went and hid, a player who always gave it all, and a player who on more than once occasion played through the pain barrier to give his all to the cause.

He had 12 years at the Lane, played in around 400 games, and was one of the few players you thought actually cared about the club and it's fans.

Sickens me to think that people are using his departure in the club, to slag him off even furthur, without any respect for the effort he put in during his time.

Good luck to him is he out of contract with us end of the season.

It nothing to do with respect. none of us ever called him lazy or said he didnt play through the pain barrier.

the one barrier he cant play through is his own ability, or lack thereof. he's useless m8, someone should have shipped him out yeard ago and i for one am glad i dont have to pay to watch him any more. its not his fault he gets picked, but hes not good enough to play for us.

Ah, the last of the 'Holy Trinity' to depart. I for one am sad to see him go, for the reasons outlined above by others. A true blade, although technically limited. Still makes me smile to look at this photo though, and think of how close we were that daystead and the holy trinity.jpg
