For me now Brentford away has become a must win game. If we fail then I feel that we will be destined for the playoffs which we all know ultimately means pub football again next season.

Thoughts?

That's the spirit

I don't think that one game will mean we're destined for the play-off's. If we win the next 2, one of which is the game in hand at Colchester, then we're back on track.

I'm sure DW knows all this and I'm confident that he'll be letting the players know that as well.

Awful performance last night, it doesn't give you much confidence when lose to a poor footballing side like Walsall. We were defensively inept, thankfully maguire & lowton are back at the weekend and hopfully collins too. Ertl and Taylor are woeful, Hill was ok until his shocking error to give them their 2nd goal.

A lot of knee jerk today, but we were never out of sight from the chasing pack.

MK Dons have slipped up a bit but they're not out of it. Huddersfield and the Pigs are doing what you'd expect and keeping pace!

We're on a bad run. I'm more disappointed at the way that we threw away the 2-0 lead on Saturday than last nights result.

Sure we got ourselves back into the game twice last night and should've been professional enough to see it out, but the back 5 hadn't even trained together!

Brentford is a big game. I think we really need to take 3 points and whow an imporved performance.

Last night was really disappointing. Hiwever it is not the end of the world. It seems (from comments and commentry) that we would have won if we'd had our usual back 4. We did not play well, but scored twice. The problem was that we had a completely new defence. They were always going to be up against. Walsal spotted that and took full advantage (credit to them). It's the stupidity of Maguire and Lowton and bad luck of losing Collins that lost us the game. If we'd played shite and Collins and Maguire had stormers and we'd won 2-0/2-1, then we'd all be saying 'promotion form'. 'we're beating teams and not playing well, because we have the quality etc'. I am really fucked off that we threw it away and was gutted we lost last night. But it is time to draw a line under it.

We're still in a good positions and a couple of decent wins and were right back up there. There will be lots of twists and turns before the end of the season and it will go down to the wire. We should not panic, remain calm and get back to basics. We'll have almost a full strength defence on Saturday and hopefully K Mac will be back soon. It's a bad patch, but it does not mean the wheels have fallen off. We had a bad run in late October/earl November and then went on a fantastic unbeaten streak. It is a big test for Wilson and the squad, but hopefully they can turn it around.

Absolutely bang on the money. I do think that Wilson has to take responsibility for this defeat and the run of 3 which we're on (which he won't shy away from I'm sure) but as you say, we have to draw a line under it and go into Brentford with the professional attitude that we took to Huddersfield.

Wilson needs to earn his money now and get us back to winning ways again.

If anyone uses that stupid phrase: "squeaky bum time" I'll ....

... oh damn, I just did.

Lowton has a lot to answer for. I think his two minutes of utter stupidity have managed to cost us six points.

SUrely that's a bit harsh!

Possibly. Everyone has that scapegoat instinct! But the way I see it: We concede, Lowton gets a daft booking for a kerfuffle over the ball. About a minute later, he lunges in (in the opposition area!) Second booking, lucky it's not a straight red. This leaves us a man down and Lowton out for Tuesday. Moments later they equalise. We over commit in attack trying to regain a lead we shouldn't have lost. We get caught due to being undermanned, Maguire panics, he gets a red and they score the winner from the spot. Now I have no doubt that will 11 men we would have held on for the win. So that's three points. Lowton's red lead directly to Maguire's red, they are both out for the Walsall match which along with existing absences (McDonald, Collins, LJF) forfeits any chance we have of getting anything from the game. Now, that assumes we'd have won at Walsall with Lowton and Maguire, so maybe it's fairer to say he cost us four points. But we lost both games due to his two moments of madness on Saturday.

As long as it is a blip, learn from it move on stronger than before.

Only worry is if it is an indicator that Lowton and maybe Maguire are struggling with the pressure of the run-in. This is where the manager earns his corn. Don't be surprised if Hill continues, especially if Collins comes back in.

great post Olle (knockers take note) :d
>Lowton has a lot to answer for
yeah.. hang the bastard:rolleyes:

I came here with some things to day this morning. However, as Ollie has said pretty much everything I was going to say, I can get back to grouting my shower.

I will add this though: I doubt there are many defences in the world that would do well with 2 debutees thrown in at the last minute. Winning last night was always a big ask, and I'm only glad we've got through it with our goal difference healthy.

I didn't say that at all. My point is, he got himself sent off when we were winning, we lost. He was then suspended for last night. We lost again.

Hardly sterling work from the young man, is it?

Brentford isn`t "must win", but it probably is "must match Huddersfield & Wednesdays results".

We must then get something from Colchester. Hudds don`t play that night so we need to force them to need to get something from their game in hand at that point (Orient away)

None of the top 5 have managed more than 3 wins out of the last 6 so it's not as if anyone is performing any better than anyone else. OK, we're in the worst form of the 5 based on the fact we've lost 3 out of 4 but we're 2nd in the table for a reason. Wendy lost 3 on the bounce last month and all of a sudden, because they beat us and then got a draw at Rochdale and beat a poor Bury side, they've got a much better chance of going up than us.

The way the fixtures fell, there was always the likelihood that we'd be back in the pack after this weekend and nothing's changed. As I've said elsewhere, we just need to ride out the dodgy spell and hope that we can get the defence settled again, get KMc back and there's no reason why we can't get the 25ish points we need.

you answered your own question.. 'young man'.. this is what you get when you play young lads in every game.. their mental discipline only need slip for a second and this is what you get. if you feel better blaming lowton then go for it.. people have to have someone to blame.. it does my head in..

we just need to win our home games and one other away game.. pick a game .. any game

Lowton made a bad decision and cost us (agree with Guesty). However he has been very good this season. He's been part of a very resilient defence (though I don't think he is a great defender) and he offers a lot to the team. He has scored several goals, links very well down the right, creates chances and offers a great attacking threat going into the box. Hopefully he can learn from this. I've forgiven him.

Agree, Maguire did panic - he thought Simo had gone home already and net were empty.
