Berge is the better player (in my opinion) and is younger, has better statistics and played at a higher level, but even given all of that, I’ll meet you halfway and say he could be valued at £10-15m less (on the basis of him being, erm English if I follow your logic). Which is still £30m plus.

Also, your continued narrative with regards to hid selection and playing for England, falls apart when you consider, say Haaland.

I sincerely hope that Berge stays and stays injury free this season. Then we will re-visit this thread and see what's what.

He's a very very good player. Far more ability that the likes of Phillips (English premium in the transfer market only, he would be ten a penny of he was Norwegian). Anyone saying otherwise is off their rocker imo.

Still, opinions are like arseholes. We all have one.

What's the higher level than the European Championship final that Berge has played at?

Just to be clear, you're considering the champions league group stage where Genk got shat on in nearly every game to be a higher level of football than an England Italy European Cup Final?

No, that’s a straw man. Im saying the Champions League is a higher domestic level than Phillips has played at, and I don’t consider the European Championships, in general to be of the same level. Also, it was one of a number of factors that I consider to be relevant when using Phillips’ inflated fee as the denominator for an argument that Berge is worth at least £30m. I’m not sure which of those is most important, because the goalposts are continually shifted.

And if we’re going to talk about playing for a side that got shat on consistently, do I need to point to the season Leeds just had? I notice all of the counterpoints to my Phillips argument point to his international career, but are oddly silent on how well he shielded that Leeds backline. Oh, and not to mention a mighty Hungarian forward line that carved through our golden DM like he was made of wet paper…

I don't know why you waste your time debating with some on here. Phillips is great. Berge is shit. Just accept it. Phillips is far far better than Berge (apparently) as he is alright at being a midfielder destroyer but is English, whereas as Berge who has more ability in his left testicle than Phillips, is shit cos he plays for SUFC. Phillips plays for that reight good side England as well under that reight gud manager Southgate. Must be a reight player. Phillips brilliant, Berge shite. OK. Think we have all got it now. Luckily some of the people on here arent in charge of making the decision on whether we sell our players as some would have sold him for about £5m.

Now this is a straw man. I'm not saying Berge is shit, far from it. But I think most people, would consider a European championship final to be a higher standard of football than a champions league group game.

Luke Shaw is better than Roberto Carlos because he’s played in more European Championship finals.

Which final? All finals? Or specific ones? And compared against which group game? I said I consider the Champions League to be a higher standard than the European Championships in general.

Yep I would agree with that summary re levels of football. What about it? There has been some right piles of shite representing England over the years. I for one wouldn't have had Phillips anywhere near the national side but hey ho, Gareth thought otherwise. Doesnt make him right though.

Of course, there has been some incredible shite representing England over the years, and they've never made a major tournament final.

Tbh, im not interested in talking about Phillips. I've never rated him, think he's well overrated and is worth what he is in the current transfer market purely because he's English. Sorry pal, I just don't rate him. You might and thats your prerogative. Anyway, the point I was trying to support was that imo, Berge is a far better player than Phillips will ever be. You won't change my mind on that. Phillips could move for a hundred squillion pounds tomorrow but he still ain't a better footballer.
