What's educated about your guess, it's nothing of the sort?

A quick edit would be in order, the word you were really looking for is uneducated.

Ah but you are missing the point that everyone in any position of responsibility at Bramall Lane is a certified idiot who would happily pay £10K a week for a player who has shown in a month's "trial" that he is no more than an average 3rd tier player who can't usually manage more than 10 minutes a game.

Well actually Darren I think we can look at our record and question your sarcasm. Evans, Cresswell, Simmonsen, Quinn, Morgan, Henderson, France, Monty and Ertl were all dished out pretty hefty contracts in the last few years. Why change the habit of dishing out lucrative contracts to players in their twilight?

Matt Bianco - you are already 2 pints down mucker. Fancy buying me those soon? Actually, that would mean I have to meet you. Could you put them behind the bar at The Rutland? Then you are on! You should be careful with bet though. Remember what almost happened last time. You were saved from running naked round Sheffield by not 1, but 2, dodgy penalties. Still, if you are willing to let your heart rule your head, then the bets on.

Trig - we are talking about a player with England caps, a goal every other game ratio (though obviously not recently), who has played at the highest level for the largest part of his career. Forget the SUFC shin pads and that malarky, you've got to pay the cash for James Beattie. We're not talking abnout Chris Porter here. Loyalty my back side. Do you think BT's agent would be happy with him getting a couple of grand a week? No chance. My assumption that a player that previously got the best part of 40k a week is now getting just ove a quarter of that is entirely reasonable.

Nuddy- Marcus Bent mark II was Marcus Bent last season!
This whole what BT is earning stuff ius quite funny actually. Just the BT lovers trying to get away from him being over the hill. For the fact that I was right (again) and BT is a crock and over the hill. He has done exactly what I have predicted: fuck all. A bit of Olle bashing will not take away from the fact that brining back Marcus Bent .... erm I mean James Beattie has been a flop.

Beattie has been a flop?

Apart from his 40 mins against Salisbury where he got no service he has hardly had time to shine.

Bloody hell anyone would struggle when only getting less than 10 mins in a game, usually when we dont need to score goals.

The bottom line is that everyone on here can see that Beattie is not worth anything like £10K a week. Don't you think it is a mite unreasonable to think that me, you, Trigger, Uncle Tom Cobley and the Archbishop of Canterbury can all see that and yet Danny Wilson can't?

Obviously though, logic doesn't come into it when you want to strike an attention seeking extreme position.

Careful Darren, you're in danger of being labelled a 'BT Lover', or shouldn't that be a 'Mr VFM Lover', or even a 'Mr VFM Lover' who has failed to 'Run the Gauntet'.

Maybe, just maybe Olle, Beattie is on rather less than 10k a week. I seriously doubt he was on anywhere near 40k a week at Rangers, frankly any pot they had to piss in has long been auctioned to the highest bidder. So. Let's assume he was on, (I'll go high here) 20k. The only clubs to show interest since then were us and Bournemouth. So, we weren't exactly competing against big money men. Let's say he was here on 4k a week then. In that time he hasn't pulled up any trees, so I rather doubt Wilson would have recomended getting him if there was a big wage hike to your mythical 10k figure for the remainder of the season. I appreciate Wilson doesn't pull the strings financially, but if we were paying him that much it would surely impact on other transfers, so Wilson would presumably not recommend it, which he clearly has.

So, on that balanced (I think) analysis, I'd say he's on max 4k a week. Because of our financial position and his fitness/recent record I'd assume that a chunk of that is performance related.

Thoughts?

Do you seriously think he has done enough to justify earning a contract extension?

Depends how much we are paying him. If we are paying him the proverbial peanuts, then I would say yes. I don't think Wilson is stupid and I do not think he would have got the extension had he demanded anything beyond (relative) peanuts.

Sounds reasonable. I would expect a very small basic (say £2K a week) with perhaps bonuses for appearances and goals and a sizable bonus if we go up.

I'll say it again. Beattie does not need to be playing third tier football to keep the wolf from the door. He could just sit on his arse all day picking his nose and counting his money. He obviously wants to continue playing football at the highest level possible for as long as he can. As such, I think it's reasonable to suggest he is not now primarily motivated by money. And, as you say, given that only 2 third tier teams were interested in him, he is hardly in a position to hold out for big money anyway.

If he was earning minimum wage he has not even done enough to earn an extension. All I have seen is an ill disciplined has been that is trying to hard.

But in the time we've been paying him he's done fuck all and barely played. Wilson said the other day that we've now got him just over 50% fit.

Without getting in to the finer details. So far Olle is right.

Message to BT ....

That's how you do it!!!

Hoskins first touch and it is in the back of the net. In a few minutes on the pitch, he has already contributed more than the 'talisman'. What was Olle saying about the wage being used on a hungrier, younger and quicker striker? Fortunately we have managed to sign Hoskins, despite the ill advised signing of mr VFM.

What if Hoskins only signed for us because BT was at the club?

Message to Ollesendro -

Stop. Please stop.

Stop dragging up your own threads just to show everyone how funny/great/interesting/correct you are. It's getting more tiresome than shit reality telly that only women like.

I think that Olly is like that is like the pub bore with nothing much worth saying but keeps repeating himself time and time again.

Didn't this thread start on the basis of Olle's opinion on how much we must be paying Beattie, and didn't he make noises about somebody making the same kind of baseless suppositions about Weir? Just an observation, please don't report me as a member of the BT Lover North Korean Opinion Supressing Mr VFM fan club!!

Nope. All you have to do is go back to the original post. It quite clearly states that I think BT is a poor signing and a waste of money. Funny that the people who were giving me a hard time before BT put pen to paper are very quiet at the moment. Rather than any apologies and 'you were right Olle', all that can be said is 'Olle is an attention seeker ..... pub bore ..... look at me' or some other tripe. Now that BT has been relegated to 5th choice striker (behind Porter - who has outscored him) I think my assertions of 'I told you so' about Mr VFM will be ringing like bells on a wedding day. We'll have to get quasimodo in at this rate, whilst the 'hero' gets paid for drinking in Vodka Revolution and visting Sheffield Halamshire hospital every now and then. No need to worry though, as the team is perfectly fine without him (another one of my assumptions!).

Nope, your assertation was that he wouldn't be VFM (ho ho ho). How you could determine that based upon how much he was paid was the main grievance of most people on here, and then you make the very same point to somebody else about Weir. Strikes me as a little hypocrytical.

Sometimes Olle, you do get things right, so do I, so does everybody. It's just when you get things right you can't help but go on and on and on about it. That's what annoys people I guess.

Well done, Beattie hasn't played much or had much on-field impact. However Wilson thinks he worth a contract, and for my money, I'm backing Wilson on this one. He seems to know what he's doing so far.
I think we've done this one to death now. So please, next time we win without (or even maybe with) Beattie, please don't bump this thread again.
Oh, and that's just my opinion, and my name isn't Kim.

"Dad, can't we just paint the front room?"

Ollie: "Nar then lad, if tha chuck enough muck at t'shed some of it'll stick"

Son: "Dad, can't we just paint the shed?"

Ollie: "Nar son. The paint costs money, even when we're not lookin' at it. Look at me when am talkin' to yer"

Son: "I was dad. But now you're not saying anything"

Ollie: "Then just look at me".

Tarquin gets hammer.

Tarquin strikes nail as squarely on the head as a nail has ever been struck and ever will be.

Rest of forum look for metaphorical flamethrower so it won't matter two shits what colour metaphorical shed is. Except those of course who hang on every shed related word, because they are still virgins. Metaphorically?

I have also noted that Olly has shown worrying symptoms of succumbing to bertitis; the strange debillitating strain of egomania where one persistently refers to oneself in the third person.

The only known cure for this is consistent ridicule.

can you save your potty mouth for when you are down at the scouse ale house please?

As I have previously stated previously, even if BT has been earning minimum wage, then he has represented poor VFM. Hence it does not matter whether I know BT's salary or not. I can take a guess it is a hell of a lot more than minimum wage and it absolutely does not represent money spent wisely.

So all that is left to be said is 'run the gauntlet' .....

Moving away from the insults and trying to get back on track on this thread...

What's value for money though Ollie?

In his defence he's not had much game time, we already knew his fitness state when we gave him deal 1. BT has sat on the bench waiting for Wilsons nod. He's come on and hasn't looked unfit, not dragged his feet.

He has however shown a lack of discipline and it's cost him 3 games and moved him down the pecking order. But that's football. Other players come in and try to do a job, BT has to wait his turn.

I have no doubts that BT will be called upon before the end of the season and it's then that we'll see his value. Akinbadbuy scored a couple of vital goals when we got promoted, not saying that nobody else would've scored them, but he scored them.

Wilson has obviously thought its worth the gamble. It's his gamble. It's his budget. Better having 5 strikers fighting it out than just 2 or 3.

We have ched, cresswell, porter, Hoskins and BT until the end of the season, not a month or two months.

So whats the issue?

So all that is left to be said is 'run the gauntlet' .....

Why why why why why why why?? Olle. You could have left it with your opinion. Fine, I have no problem with that. However where you let yourself down is with this kind of stuff. What are you trying to prove exactly? It doesn't make you big or clever.
