I'll go for arblaster next season Syd the year after lankshire in 3

Imagine both will be in and around the squad next season 👍
God help us if they are.
It's one hell of a massive step up too Championship football especially for a side that should be targeting promotion.
You only have to look at Ndiaye, Jebbison, Seirki, and Osula.
All miles in front of both these kids and only Ndiaye has so far shown that he's good enough for the Championship and even he's been inconsistent.
I'm not saying these two guys won't make good players in time or the others that have been around the 1st team this season.

I take your point but there has to be the system in place to allow the step up.

Yes it’s a big leap It’s not uncommon for lads to be in and around a championship first team squad at 18 years old.

Don’t think Wards was suggesting they will be regulars but getting in and around the squad (in his words) should be their target if the6 continue to improve

There is a system in place. It's called the loan system.

It takes a special player to be able to step out of the youth team and into the first team with no steps in between. Taking these steps doesn't mean the player has less potential just means they will take a year or two longer. I'm worried about our new strategy, we don't have the talent resources so we will do 1 of 2 things, abandon the plan or sink.

Could be a commentators nightmare Arblaster and Lankshear if playing together and comentator has had a couple the night before...
just saying like...

Correct.

Both may go out on loan (and that's likely, it's the way we do things generally) but there are exceptions. All depends on how we intend to fill gaps in the first team. Both were training with the seniors on a regular basis towards the end of last season. All I'm saying is don't be surprised if one or two of them do step up quicker than the 'usual' path we push them down.

From youth team to Championship ? That’s a big jump.
To paraphrase the great Pinchy : "No player improves more, or deserves to play in the 1st team, than a youth player that nobody has seen play"

We saw this with Jebbison last season, we saw it with De Girolamo, Connor Dimaio, Elliot Whitehouse and many others.

There's a very big difference between banging in goals against 17/18yo CBs and GKs as there is to being marked by Sol Bamba and Aden Flint etc.

Great stuff. Pleased for the lad.

In what context is this scholar of the year trophy? Every youth player in England, the EFL, Academy status.....?

I get that mate and this is clearly the route that we have adopted in the last few years, however that can and should be bypassed if the coaching staff are confident that they can make the transition without a loan ala Brookes

Talking here about maybe giving them half an hour in the early rounds of the cup, or 10 mins off the bench if the game is won.

Like I said on my earlier post it shouldn’t be unreasonable or unheard of that an 18 year old is in and around the first team squad at championship level

That process is in place, it's just the player needs to be special like Brooks or Maguire. I don't think 10 mins here and there is enough to develop a player who is just short of that special status.

One opinion I have is whilst we saved money on loaning out Mousset but more so Burke we have cost ourselves 6 months of integral development in Jebbison. he could have been there and carried on his form and got 20 goals this season at Burton and been ready for us next season, but he's stagnated this last-second half of the season and really needs another season-long loan now

Fair point re Jebbison and I guess that’s the kind of decisions that the club have to make, some they will get right and some wrong.

The point I was making about the 10 mins here and there was more to stagger there involvement at first team level, give them a flavour of what it’s all about and see how they do from there.

I’ve only seen some of the academy games on YouTube so others will be better placed to comment but these lads may well fall into the “special” category.

We can only trust the clubs judgement on that

A friend of a friend is Jack Lester. Through this friendship, Osula and Arblaster presented trophies at my sons football team's presentation evening. Both were ambassadors for our club. Talked with the kids, photos, autographs etc. They were exemplary.

When speaking with my friend, we talked about the two players. Jack Lester thinks Arblaster is a "£20 million pound midfielder"....

To say he is so young he has been pushed through the ranks at a remarkable rate and as we all aware spent the later part of the season training with the first team. i can see him getting a loan to div 1 / 2 team for the first part of the season and then back to us for The later part of the season, very high ceiling expected for him.
Peck and Arblaster could be the fulcrum of our midfield within the next two seasons.

The likes of Dewhurst, Gordon, Lopata, Boyes, Gomis, Neal, Seriki are all going to be 20/21 years old next season. If they are going to make it at this club they need to be pushed into the first team set up for pre season. Gives the likes of Arblaster, MaGuire, Peck, Hackford and Lankshear more chances to play regularly in the u23s and aid their development.

There's a reason man utds class of 92 is still remembered. It's incredibly rare for a number of youth players to make it at once.
