Morning Blades,

i need to apologise for my actions on Saturday, i was sat in the BLLT, the smoke bomb (thrown by the Forest Fan Above) landed about 5-6 rows in front of me and the fan sat directly in front of me was angry and stood in front of me for around 5 mins shouting obscenaties at the Forest fans, he had been asked by the gent sat next to me to sit down and allow the stewards to deal with this, he wouldnt listen and was becoming more agitated and more foul mouthed, i asked him to sit down he basically told me to FCUK off i lost it and basically told him if he didnt sit down id put him down myself using foul language.

His young lad was clearly upset and wanted to and subsequently moved away, i apologised to his wife and 2 kids for my actions however the young lad didnt want to come back and sit in his seat, on reflection i should have moved as i played my part in ruining this young lads afternoon, i apologise to the wife and 2 kids i hope this does not stop you returning to BDTBL

I know when apologising there should never be a but however this fan needs to take a really good luck at himself 5-10 mins shouting foul lanugage in front of your kids is poor partly why i lost my temper and im ashamed to say stooped to your levels.

Whilst the overall atmosphere was good the other day, when all the seats are moved about, it has the feel of an Away game or Neutral Ground feel to it. There was an undertone to the atmosphere and you could see it could boil over into infighting.

At HT in the South Stand concourse a guy knocked into another and spilled his drink. He immediately apologised but the guy who's drink it was had other ideas and decided to start mouthing off at him etc. The bloke apologised furthermore but the abuse continued before his mates pulled him back and probably explained how little of the drink was actually lost.

At least when you're in your own seats you know the people around you. You know who to block out. You know the ones that are sound. You know the total bellends. If the seat becomes unbearable, you can always move seats the following season etc. I hate these one-off match atmospheres.

Now I had a perfect gentlemen sat behind me at the match.
We managed to get our seats but it was like being at an away match as there were few faces around us that we recognised. Match started, great atmosphere until Forest scored. Bloke sat behind me to the left began moaning about United being f****** rubbish and on and on he went.
at half time, I felt a tapping on my shoulder and this lovely man behind me said, ‘ I’ve had a word with him’ Apparently he had had a word about his swearing and in the second half there wasn’t a peep from the negative Nelly. NN left with about 15 minutes to go…

I'd proffer the inclement weather had more of a bearing on people's short tempers. Could see it on the pitch with the players snapping at each other throughout. Hot heads all round.

The sad reality is that, yes, it’s a society thing—but it’s also the case that football has become one of those corners of our social life where it’s now acceptable, or obligatory (if you’re a cunt) to act like a cunt.

How and why has football become a space where this kind of shit is expected, and to a significant extent tolerated? You don’t get it in other sports. Or at the cinema. Or in supermarkets. Or when walking your dog. Or parking your car. Or queuing to pay a bill at the Post Office. Why do we have it, and accept it, in football?

These days, it begins in the most junior leagues. Anyone who wants to, can see vile shit on the touchlines of under-7 football upwards, week in and week out, to rival any of the nonsense you’ll see at, or around, pro games. In my time shepherding my two lads through junior football, I witnessed vicious abuse, violence (including violence towards kids), pissed and out-of-control bastards at 10am on a Sunday morning, moronic behaviour of every stripe.

There must be solid, academic studies of why this is so. If there are, I’ve not read them. You‘d guess it might be partly to do with legacy shit from the worst days of the hoolies in the 1970s and 80s (though that shit has very deep historical roots, at least as far back as 19th century city rivalries).

I‘d guess it might also be partly to do with football’s fucking ridiculous self-importance these days (a function of Sky and Prem-era hype, maybe?).

Even under-7 Sunday league managers often conduct themselves like they’re working in the fucking Champions League.

30 years ago when I sat on a football committee, most of the disciplinary cases at County level emanated from youth football (mainly parents).
Nothing much has changed, sadly. We still have obscenities shouted at under 7 boys and girls matches.
