Playoff tickets, First Leg

Why were we never going to sell out for a play off game?
Cos the last one we did was forest. 26k v Preston, 21k v stevenage, 17k v Swindon, 15k v Yeovil. We don't have a huge fan base, we get exceptionally high crowds for the amount of fans we have. Only 2 games in the prem sold out, man utd and Watford. This is gonna be close to a sell out which is good for us.

Just been in ticket office. A steady stream of customers and one person serving them, one other on the phone line. I waited about 10mins, no drama. I was listening to the calls being answered on the phone. One after the other constant calls. Every call was answered the same. Not word for word but close

"Hello United ticket office,
You want tickets for tomorrow? Are you on our database? Have you bought a ticket before? Sorry but because you don't have any purchase history we can't sell you a ticket. Due to Forest selling out their allocation. Sorry about that".

I'm not moaning or judging, just saying how it is. UTB

Considering how well we've done in recent history to grow the fanbase with reasonable pricing and excellent kids prices, this seems such a regressive approach.

Not only booked my grand a night room at the Hilton at Wembley for the night before we beat Huddersfield, I've also arranged a champagne reception in the banqueting suite afterwards to celebrate our return to the Prem.

Fail to plan, plan to fail.
Already got my business class plane ticket to Heathrow for the final, and like you, in the hilton too.

Only joking... not a Wendy fan!

Games will never sell out whilst we have restricted view tickets. Remove those seats, the posts on kop, and you'll find we'll sell out home ends a lot more.

Also, make buying tickets for new fans easier.

Loyalty points should be a score multiplier based on how far away you live from the Lane, and what modes of transport you're required to use to get there.

If you need to get a boat or plane to come t'lane then it's 1000 points per match.
What about a canal boat?

There's still unrestricted tickets left tomorrow though to be fair, I agree on the latter though.

Seats left (approx) for tomorrow;

Bramall Lane Lower - 130
Family Corner (restricted view) - 80
Kop (restricted view) - 50
South Stand - 3

If we're talking degrees of difficulty presumably the handful of miles I travel on Northen rail should bag me about a ksquillion points. Score!

Could easily have put 2,000 in the bottom tier with front and sides netted off with around 900 seats spare.

Pretty sure if it was SAG/SYP driven then we'd have been told straight away.

Also too much of a coincidence the specific number of tickets Forest were given (10% of full working capacity).
How does netting stop the Forest fans going onto the pitch though? I presume you're not suggesting nets actually around them like their a catch of haddock?!

If it was SAG driven I don't see why the club would come out and say so to be honest Davalon, there may be more to it that meets the eye on this, that's all I'm saying. I'm not convinced this is solely a club decision.

I remember being surprised that we sold out our last home game v Stevenage in 2012 ( it was also live on TV).

I have spoken to 3 casual football fans today who wanted to go tomorrow but couldnt get a ticket due to having no prior purchase history. They were all surprised how difficult to get a ticket. It is ridiculous and needs rectifying for future games.

If I flew in from Singapore I'd expect a seat in the dug out.

If any Blades came from Aus or New Zealand they should be named on the team sheet 😁

BLLT - 112
Family (Restricted View) Corner - 73
Kop - 39
Wheelchair Access - 6

So 230 unsold in total, all in, probably half of which have a poor view and half a dozen are reliant on circumstances. Both main stands sold out.

Be nice to say sold out, but it is as near as damn it and there will be a few who still wake up tomorrow and decide to go along if not for the atmosphere than the view.

Only thing unclear is how many seats are lost for any stewarding reasons but it ought to be similar to the Fulham game of not more so due to Forest selling out.

League game was sold out, 10k less there for the playoff

It all depends on how the play offs are achieved

If you are favourites for promotion but have fallen into the play offs they won't be accepted enthusiastically by fans

If you end up in the play offs unexpectedly after expecting a relegation battle the fans will be more enthusiastic about them

Apart from the Forest game, the play offs have always been a bit of an anticlimax, a let down, a booby prize after failing when we expected and wanted better.

When we were in the Prem I know 3 Rotherham fans who wanted to go to the odd Blades game.
They were refused by the ticket office and told to buy a membership.
Obviously this put them off and they didn't bother.

We also had family visiting from abroad and they couldn't come with me to the matches in the Prem.
Again they were told they needed to register and become members....they weren't that bothered so didn't attend.

If the Blade's go up and we all hope they do ,they have to keep a certain amount of tickets for supporters from abroad it's not a lot to ask.

And more than 2700 a season if you invest in a ST as an overseas Blade 😉.
