I would be. Wednesday are home to Hartlepool and Huddersfield to Brentford. They will probably both win. A draw would keep us second with our hardest fixture out of the way.

If that is aimed at me, then yes, I'd take a draw. Be happy with that. Of course I'd love us to win, but would be happy if we just don't get beat at Charlton, Hudders and the Sty. Then it will be in our hands with some very winnable home fixtures.

Spot on, a draw is a perfectly respectable result at Charlton. A win is a bonus.

Hell, I'd even take an overall position of we lose and Weds and Hudders draw.

>you dint fink abart a weekend in London wi d missus
she's organised some epic party with a cast of thousands so i've no chance.. olle can type.. it's an in joke we have.. don't worry about it guys :D

A draw is a very good result. Its what Wednesday should've planned for on Saturday. A draw would've kept them within touching distance.

However, I think this is the best chance that we'll have this season to get a win.

Admittedly I base my opinion of Charlton on just two games
v Blades at the lane and
v Leyton Orient on New Years Eve.

And the reviews of the Pigs game.

But I think we have a better chance of getting past Charlton than Reading in 05-06. I think we're a better side than Charlton.

However, the normal Blades 'fly in the ointment' could still be 'big games' - Huddersfield, Charlton and Pigs have all brought us back down to earth this season, so i'm intrigued to see how far we've come.

I have said it since we played Hudders, Charlton and pigs that we were the best team in the division. Those 3 just took their chances on the day. Think Charlton only really had 4 or 5 chances.

I suspect that it's statistically improbable that they'll both win. Anyway, esoteric matters aside, I say they won't. A friendly wager - £5 donation to Foxy?

The only times in my life I have ever bet on football (or anything else for that matter) was in the 2006-07 when I put a £1 each time on United to win 1-0 at Arsenal and Chelsea with Hulse getting the goal at odds of over 100-1. Other than then I don't bet.

No problem mate. I do like a bet. Just for fun I'll unilaterally donate the fiver if both fail to win; double it if one loses as well and double it again if both lose.

Charlton will also be fairly happy with a draw, which will maintain their four, potentially seven point gap at the top of the table. They may sit back and let us come at them, and hope to catch us on the break.

And I think this is where we could exploit them.

Last season we only had a Plan A, this season we seem to have more options. I think we're particularly dangerous on the counter attack.

So the hope for an early goal for us, then they need to come at us...

It could be that both sides are happy with a draw and we see a turgid 0-0...

Officials for the game:

Charlton Athletic v Sheffield United
DARREN DEADMAN
Lee Betts and Harry Lennard

The fact that they haven't lost at home all season for some reason makes me slightly more optimistic. It's unlikely they'll go through the whole season unbeaten at home, i mean, they've got to lose sometime haven't they? If they do it's more than likely going to be us. That's my logic and i'm sticking to it :)

With those choices I think you are right never to bet again. At the time 100-1 would have been fair on us just to win let alone choose the scorer too.

I like the Reading away comparison. Sometimes I forget that we do come up trumps in these close encounters away from home. It will be close. We can win. Ultimately I'll take a point and be pleased. If we win then our confidence will go through the roof and we could turn in to a legendary team.

I would rather play Charlton, MK , Hudds and the pigs away than at home in the second half of the season, the pressure is on them.

I like that logic.

This is the first time since we played Pompey away in their promotion season, that I've actually been excited about us playing one of the top teams in the division. For years I haven't held much hope against decent teams and have always been a bit intimidated by them- but after our run of form (and Ched and Kev looking very very good) I can't wait until Saturday. This game has come at the right time for us. They'll still be feeling the bruises from the MASSIVE Wednesday game and we haven't scored less than 2 goals since November.

BRING IT ON!

If i was a Charlton fan, i would be looking at us, and thinking 11 wins out of the last 12, bang on form, scoring plenty of goals and playing some good football, and worried about the unbeaten home record.

I'm driving down on Saturday and wondering if anyone can give me advice re getting to the ground ie is it best to park north London and get the tube or is it hassle free parking nearer the ground. Best place for a pre match pint? Any suggestions from the LB's would be welcome

There's no tubes at Charlton, though there is a railway station very near (Charlton), which you get to from London Bridge. Personally, I would park at Mill Hill East (very near junction 2 of the M1), get the Northern Line down to London Bridge and then the train to Charlton. The train/tube journey should take around a hour.

An added bonus of that route is that there will be plenty of blades at a pub near London bridge from 12 o'clock til about 2. PM if you want the pub name.

Last couple of times I've been, I've gone down the A1/M11 (or you could do M1/M25/M11) go to end of M11 follow signs for Blackwall tunnel, go through tunnel you emerge near O2 arena, Valley is in front off you.

I've parked on some spare land at back of a little trading estate over to the left as you approach ground, don't park on estate itself they were wheel clamping last time.

Pub, I'm going to Rose of Denmark down Woolwich Road, very friendly pub.
