Well that was a whoops moment, thanks for being kind and pointing it out. I'll go back to sleep now.
He had an interesting game against us on Monday though, never seen a keeper misjudge so many balls he thought he would be first to in one game.

That's twice now mate. Your post in #496 shows Southampton player, Dave Watson. Never played in the "Famous" red & white, only Southampton's, Stoke's and Sunderland's.

What more can you expect from a Southend supporter? I'll stick to posting stuff I know is correct in future. Just a few more games till season's end, then I'll be out of your playground.

Quiet news day, Fill it up with waffle (and a bit of pain). Sympathy gratefully received as I'm getting bugger all from Mrs Roots. No shoelace tying or left handed arse scratching for the time being I reckon.

If you working with a mitre chop saw please be very careful where you put your thumb while the blade is turning. This had been a public information message.

Not seen anything like that since Vic and Bob did Masterchef…

Back to back wins, seeing off FC Halifax this time. They are third in the table and we sent them back home to Yorkshire with bugger all for their efforts. Neal was fit and back in the side and gave his normal all action display which, of course, included the obligatory yellow card, but we will miss his driving, direct style when he goes home to you guys in May.

He's probably got to learn to curb that a bit. Maybe he gets away with it in the muck and nettles stuff of lower league football where provided your opponents limb is still attached a yellow will suffice.

Higher up where the refs dl their best to make the highlights reel he'd be an absolute godsend.

But he's getting games and he's learning.

Whoever offered the advice to Brunt should probably think that one over too. Gone from being appreciated at Southend to being unused sub at Notts County. Whereas he had a good trajectory going in the first loan, there must be a few now questioning his limit. Grass isn't always greener eh?

It is what it is I guess, he could just as easily crashed and burned with us. His next move will be very important to his development so I hope he gives it a lot of thought as there is a good player in there with the right guidance. He certainly got a very warm reception from our crowd when he came on for Notts County.

And now a little bit of Lopata (cue Lou Bega)! ShrimperZone is firing up the Player of the Season award engine and whilst he won't win it through lack of games and voting points, Kacper has many supporters for the fans vote. I actually can't remember a loanee ever pulling votes for this award before, which gives you lot an idea of just how highly rated he was.

That's great to hear. Seems he really threw himself head first into his loan. It will be interesting where he goes next. Maybe one more move before first team.

Is that likely to happen? I thought I read somewhere recently that Heckingbottom is looking to buy new young talent for the first team squad next season, so where does that leave your U23s?

On loan in League One getting games I guess.

Some might be determined by how we finish but rather they go and play 40 matches somewhere than the odd game every ten.

The folk with two brains and a direct line to inside info at Southend with lots of time on the hands have been hinting that a half season loan for Kacper back to us next season is not ruled out. Much as I would love that to happen, I agree that he needs to be tested higher up the ladder.

We’re unlikely to write him off after a successful loan at 22 Rhys Norrington-Davies has featured significantly for the first team this year for the first time and his path has been one of impressing on loan stepping up in level each time.

On the whole we’ve got an old squad that’s going to need replacing over the coming years and what looks like not much cash to do that replacing with so some of those lads are going to have to be produced internally. He might not be a starter here next year but I’d be very surprised if we cut him adrift given his early success in the men’s game and our situation.

Boreham Wood - Never in a million years did I think we would be playing teams like this a few years ago, but play them we did last night. Massive FA Cup exploits from them this season, games in hand and still in with a shout for the play-offs. Well, they can forget that! A sound 1-0 win for the Blues tonight which made the 'Wood' look ordinary. Hard to believe we didn't know where our next points were coming from after our unbeaten purple patch dried up, now the team reckon every game is winnable again, and with 3 wins on the spin you can't argue against that mentality. Mr Neal had one of those games which makes you wish he was a permanent member of the team. He was everywhere last night, breaking up attacks, prompting play forward, principle corner taker and free kick deliverer, all in all a class 90 minutes from the young man. Is he ready for higher level football?.........probably FL2, yep. Can he improve to higher things? probably he can. Is he now an accomlished midfielder who can easily hold his own in a National League team? Absolutely, so the loan has worked really well for him and for us. 3 games left, starting at Film star Utd on Saturday. Oh, and a superb turn out of 74 Boreham fans crammed into the North Stand as well (too cruel? nah)

How are you feeling about playing Oldham and Scunthorpe next season? I was recalling our League One promotion season where we battled with Scunthorpe until they fell away and had to settle for a play-off place. Southend were on for the play-offs I think but were pipped at the post by Millwall. And Oldham were lower mid-table.
National League is looking like a retirement home for ex-league clubs. I think the NTT20 guys described it accurately that the top 8-10 in the NL are probably better than the bottom half of FL2 which makes it so difficult for relegated teams to get back out, especially as most of the recently relegated teams are a mess at board-room level so not best placed to make promotion pushes.

Tricky shout on feelings. I now know how they must be feeling, especially Oldham and their old Premier League history. I've done both grounds so that isn't inviting, and they're not exactly next door when it comes to travelling away to them, so I guess I'm a bit meh on both of them. They will need to have a solid organisational club base to break out of this swamp as we found. And on their day every team can beat anyone. With only one auto place the play offs are a lottery even if you have a storming season, so I reckon both will struggle first time out. As for the top NL teams versus FL2, I would go down as far as 12th place (I would say that wouldn't I?).

Thanks for reminding me on the Millwall front. That was the season we dicked them 4-1 at the Hall and their supporters were locked in at the end, so what did they do, nicked the gates by taking them off at the hinges. And then listening to their result at the end of the season was v painful.

Harrison Neal is included in the official SUFC list for Young Player of the Season 21/22. Results due 15th May 2023. Will be interesting to see how he does. No place for Kacper I'm afraid as he was recalled. Well done for the second half last night by the way. Still in the mix.

Official Match report. They scored one we scored none. Jammy welsh gits! 500 shrimpers travelled to Wrexham this afternoon (5 hours there, 5 hours back) and the BBC have just calculated that our away average is around the 800 mark. (not too Wendyish I hope).
No mate to be Wednesday you’d have to round that up to 1000, add 250 for cats dogs and other assorted pets, 250 for ghosts of grandads who have died since they were last Premier league then double it.

Weymouth at home today. They arrived freshly relegated to the National League South and both teams played on Saturday and then again today - total fixture madness and both teams were completely knackered before they even kicked off. So, we attacked uninterrupted for 92 minutes and they attacked for 3 minutes, they scored first, we all went 'Aw bollocks' and then we equalised in the second half. That's it really. I could waffle on about the game but instead I will leave you with a view from one of our fans which was pretty much reflective of what the rest of us thought. So, is there any news from your camp on what may happen to your babes out on loan next season?

Neal 8 (MOM) - another excellent performance from the lad, who really takes control for us in the midfield. His anticipation and positioning today were a cut above and he is great at keeping the ball moving by spraying passes out wide to keep us ticking over. All action. Would love to keep him next season.

This probably is way off topic for this thread, but I see you are dancing with Fulham on Saturday. As they are now already promoted will that be an advantage for you as it's job done for them? Either way, good luck chaps, I will be keeping an eye on progress and remember you are the torch bearers of the SUFC clique as the other two members have absolutely bugger all to show for their season.

Bit harsh on Sutton.
