MGW Mcburnie

McBurnie has been getting better but is still along way off from fully displacing Billy. He did some good stuff today like the return pass to MGW. In the first half in particular his first touch was poor which lead to losing possession.
MGW is a real threat and links well with both players. Billy has the edge on positional sense so he generally gets more chances to score.

Are we just going to slag Mcburnie and ignore the two sitters MGW missed then? There is a a definite agenda against Mcburnie.
My point is that these two work and are generally improving every game, as we move into the play-offs this could be huge.

Credit to McBurnie, the lad is giving absolutely everything for the badge
Some people will never be won over, but if u know the game, you'll see a player giving everything, and playing well
Giving everything and not having a clue what to do with the ball when he gets it.

There’s no agenda. McBurnie just isn’t very good at football.

I'd have marked him 7out of 10 same as MGW who loses a mark for missing two sitters, could you just imaging the furore on here if those two chances had fell to McBurnie and he missed them. MGW is technically a better player but makes mistakes the QPR win could he been a lot easier if he had passed to the free man instead of going for glory. Like you say a definite agenda with a lot of our fans do to past misdemeanours from Oli outside of the game.

If mcburnie starts every match between now and end of the season I don't think we'll need to be worrying about the play offs.

Because we'll crush them... Or because we won't even make them? 🤔

Hmm, that's a conundrum. Bring Billy back because we've never lost when he plays and he scores EVERY game, or keep McBurnie in so all the fucking babbies who do nowt bar slag him off can get their daily hard on.

No agenda at all... the chances that MGW missed wouldn't fall to mcburnie because he doesn't have the pace to get into those positions.

He's playing ok at the moment but never looks like scoring which is kind of important for a main striker. The problem is he is so ridiculously slow and never seems to sprint. Its like watching a giraffe breaking into a jog when he moves.

As soon as Billy sharp is 80% fit he's got to be straight back in the team

No agenda towards mcburnie for what he does outside of football he's just not very good,I'd love for him to score even thst chance in the first half he took an extra touch and shot and it was going straight at the keeper no placement or fuck all.

I think yesterday is our best team while Billy is out. Others, including myself probably went through a few iterations, N'Diaye, Jebbo, Hourihane, Norrington-Davies, Osborn, but to me that's the tema with the best chance to see us home.

It's not overly different to the defence that got us up before. Davies would be a reasonable pick as an O'Connell deputy and Uremovic is a high calibre Basham alternative. The rest is the same, bar Wes who is doing himself proud.

For Fleck, Norwood and Duffy you've got Fleck, Norwood and Berge who the third option having different merits.

Up top for McGoldrick, you've got Gibbs-White and then you're pairing one of the 20+ goal Championship strikers from that season in Billy or McBurnie.

My main concern is conversion rates. In 2 decent performances and 1 dud without Billy, we've managed just a single goal from a set piece.

The two from Gibbs-White, McBurnie and Uremovic; I think we're entitled to expect one of those to hit the net before we talk about refs.

McB is our only fit senior striker currently so he will start until Billy is available at the very least. Any understanding he can build with MGW in training and games will soften the blow of Billy being out. Worrying me more is if McB goes down again we’re only left with the kids. This has the feel of the season when we only had Craig Beattie left standing for the play offs

At least MGW gets in positions to score unlike his strike partner whose not really a striker or target man is he ?

These two are forming a good partnership now and seem to be getting better every week. Think we should stick with these even when Billy is back fit. Big worry is, and always has been, MGW sloppiness in front of goal. Should have had least one today.

UTB
Starting to link up better now & as we’re down to the bare bones gonna be important . On a side note always thought MGW & Ndiaye used to link up well but for some reason Ndiaye seems to have fell out of favour

They haven't scored any goals when they've played together.

Sharp and MGW have scored lots of goals when they've played together.

Mind you, if you think MGW is the big worry in a MGW-McBurnie pairing, there's probably no convincing you.

I don't think we'll see Billy again this season, maybe in the play offs if we get there, Hecky keeps saying how close he is before each game and then nothing, not even on the bench, obviously hope I'm wrong

I think if there was an agenda against Mcb it would have come a lot sooner than now, the criticism is justified for me, it looks/sounds like he's trying to address it perhaps and that's great, whether it's because contract renewal is coming who knows but it isn't as if he's been bagging a few and all of a sudden people dislike him

MGW does deserve a bit too, he can be a tad sloppy and does try some fancy stuff that doesn't work, the fact of that matter is he does score often, gets in to position and more importantly keeps going back and trying again. Besides when one of those fancy goals comes off we're more than happy to give him all the praise.

They're a team and they need to influence each other but the reality is, in the MGW/McB combo, it isn't MGW who's scored 1 more goal than I have at the lane this season.

He'll be at Bristol City, you'll see

Just catching up on this thread.

So, to summarise:
Getting a run of games allows you to find form and build a partnership. However getting a run of games still doesn't mean that you'll be quite as effective as the record goalscorer at this level.

Makes sense.

The reason is those two chances could NEVER fall to McBurnie.
He would have to run and quickly to GET THERE to miss them
Have you considered that MGW missed the second chance (the first was a good save from a good keeper) because he has spent all game doing the running that McBurnie never does to create any chances for anybody.
Another McBurnie start.
Another Sheffield United NIL.
But again for some (how many accounts does McBurnie have?) it's everyone's fault but McBurnie.
Makes sense to me
War is Peace
Freedom is Slavery
McBurnie is a Footballer.

The worrying thing is McBurnie rarely finds positions to miss chances.

Neither McB or MGW are strikers...they both prefer to be deep however both have excellent workmate and link play.
Still think Sharp is our only striker but as you said at least McBurnie seems to be improving.

I've said before that behind the scenes they are transitioning McBurnie into a different kind of player, maybe playing behind another striker a bit like he's doing with MGW, we know he's useful in defence when the pressure is on us usually towards the closing stages of games when we seem to sit back and let the opposition come at us (every game recently). Generally I think he has improved his game a lot with more to come, watching him last Saturday I was thinking it won't be long before he gets a goal, then he will get more! - would I play him him instead of Billy (when fit) ? I think it's 50/50,
One thing is for sure, he is working hard for the team and needs credit for that.
