The point is that during the current season our income will be hugely less. Instead of the PL money which was over £100 million this season we get parachute a payment of around £45 million. It will be mitigated by gate money for this season which we did not get last season but nevertheless it’s a massive drop for any business. We need to cut the wage bill further I am guessing to compensate and its unlikely we will have money for transfers unless we sell players and reinvest. Unless we get promoted parachute payments fall again to around £20 mill I think so another huge drop So we will need to cut costs further by reducing wages. Employing and then sacking Slav and Co will have been an expensive exercise.

Looks like we are cutting our cloth accordingly to ensure we remain solvent but we are unlikely to be recruiting players on transfer fees.
How much is this seasons wage bill. How much was last seasons? How much will next seasons be?

Great news. To those that know more than me does this give any inkling to what the accounts for 21-22 will look like?

I must admit I'm fine with this. I want a custodian that has us competitive but also doesn't risk out future. If he's super rich, great, but we've never had that so I don't expect it. I'm also not one to easily spend other people's money.

I'd expect a couple of sales and largely the same squad.

Anything else is just going to be a waste of money. Look how little we've done this year in terms of perm deals yet we've still accrued 3.5m worth of agent fees so for me, effectively switching around the deckchairs by replacing players with those of similar ability is just a waste of cash.

We'll retain Wes and we'll either retain Davies or source a cheaper replacement. Eastwood will leave and we'll replace him internally.

We'll end up keeping Bash and Robinson to hopefully play alongside Egan. If Egan goes for 10m+ then we'll probably replace with a decent free like Goldson or someone of that nature on a Bosman. The likes of Lopata and Gordon with more miles on the clock may become occasional back ups.

Well make a decision on the left side and probably offload Max Lowe unless bids come in for Norrington-Davies or Stevens. Osborn may even be retained here or as a midfield option.

Hopefully we'll retain a combination of Bogle and Baldock and Starbuck and Seriki will get a full season in League One or Two.

Fleck and Norwood will still be in contract. Berge will probably get cashed in, but then we have Coulibaly to potentially come into the group as a ready made replacement. It's not as if Berge has been stellar all season, he's been unavailable for a fair bit of it. I wouldn't be stunned to see Peck or Arblaster make the bench. Freeman obviously heads off.

Further forward you'll have Sharp and Brewster probably sharing the load and then it will depend on what bids you get. Last year of his deal you'd consider bids for McBurnie. With Lankshear, Osula kicking on, if Sharp and Brewster are fit, you may even see Jebbison sold on if McBurnie remains.

I'd expect N'Diaye to become an important player next season. Didzy may struggle to get a new deal at this point which would be a pity, especially if we can't directly replace Gibbs-White. I'd even consider keeping Didzy if we stayed with more of a 3-4-3 or 3-4-1-2. It very much depends what options are available. You expect Mousset to not be retained if we stay down unless we find ourselves short of players and he doesn't offer bang for his buck. Likewise I don't think Burke has done much to convince though on the right of a 3-4-3 may be his best chance to prosper though his final ball is so unreliable.

Then you'll see a few loans added. Probably a replacement for Gibbs-White, maybe another option in midfield with perhaps more legs than Hourihane and maybe a little more depth at centre half.

All in all I'm expecting little cash to be spent. Promotion of youth in a few areas, decent level bosmans if a key player goes for money combined with maybe a loan player in defence, midfield or attacking midfield if we feel we're short.

The core of th squad is still capable at this level even with a few choice departures.

It's how we are set up and we'll have as good a chance as any team that hasn't gone up to 'go again' as the saying goes.

The wages/turnover % was of the level that's only usually possible for the elite European clubs. That's a major achievement although, of course, it was evident on the pitch.

On the other hand Real Madrid, practically always the most profitable club in the world, made a surplus of only £750k in 2020-21.

A word of warning, though. The profits we've made are possible because no club now writes off transfer fees and signing on fees when they're incurred (which always used to be the case). "Player Amortisation" last season was £26m and given the actual value of our signings we're going to see a substantial write down in the current year's accounts against much lower income, so our last two year's profits are practically certain to have been wiped out.

Plus, as has been pointed out, we'll still own installments for those players in actual, hard cash.

Accounts celebrating the fact that we went down without so much as a whimper without remotely trying to reinforce ... well done the Prince & board .. is that now the last 3 transfer windows we haven’t signed anyone on a permanent basis

So we actually REDUCED the wage bill in our second season in the Prem, leading us to miss out on targets like Matty Cash and Antonee Robinson. Do you think there has ever been a team who has actually REDUCED their wage bill in their second Premier League season?

Then we get relegated with an almost record-breakingly bad points haul and lose the best manager we've ever had - because he couldn't work with the chairman.

But at least the Prince made a profit. He is literally asset-stripping us and getting applauded for it.

We are not a well-run club. We are not spending sensibly. The Prince has failed to invest a penny since he stole the club from McCabe, and these profits will never be reinvested back into the club. We are being used as a cash cow to make up for his string of failed businesses. And he is actually getting applauded for it. The mind boggles.

The wages were reduced because the promotion bonuses were rightly included in the 2020 accounts.

The manager who spent £112m and watched us fall to pieces? Okay.

Which assets has he “literally” stripped?

Stole? :)

Invested? They’ve already gone into the running of the club.

Cash cow for other businesses. You don’t have clue mate.

Yeah but hes on YorkBlade podcast so must know what he's talking about.

Well he suggests a “deficit” of £43m by charging the full cost of players to P&L. (Despite accounting conventions for football not doing that) but seems to forget that we still have those players as “stock” so that figure is nonsense.

For example if a business sets up and purchases £150000 of stock and achieves £100000 of sales in the first year by his method there’s a loss of £50000. But if unsold stock amounts to £60000 there’s actually a profit of £10k. It’s not accountancy science.

Even my o level accounts told me that. And I don't claim to be the accountant!

Then there’s a non cash item such as amortisation being a reason for the £30m loan. Which he says has also been spent on paying transfer instalments.

He never cleared up the “shareholder loa n” of £21m he claimed occurred last year.. which appear nowhere in the accounts. Carlton Blade posted the Twitter conversation he had after l’d been blocked by asking where these loans were.

I'll be honest I'm not a numbers guy, more of a chilled out entertainer, so with that in mind, can you chaps please help me with any questions you think I should ask? It's important to me we get the truth and don't miss an opportunity. Thanks in advance.

Cash and Robinson were targets the season before last !

The prince has had to buy the land and property plus payments on transfers already done

Go on then Nick show where it says in the accounts where this money going out of the club to “prop up his failed businesses” is mentioned ?

Sounds like you might be better having Sean Thornton on the show than this guy lol

I don’t think it’s about truth, no suggestion there’s any agenda, more of misinterpretation of figures in trying to “add value” to the narrative.

With amortision, the suggestion is that there’s a hit on profits somewhere down the line of £70m. Possible but highly unlikely as that would mean every player stayed with us to the very end of their contract with no fee being received. The sale of Ramsdale alone in the following financial year already changes that £70m figure. If it’s a worst case scenario, which it would be, that point should be made. IMO anyway, for what’s it’s worth.

I think a) he has a lot of broadcasting experience and b) is a bit more photogenic. I’d have to have a sack over my head like John Merrick :(

See, l can be nice even though he blocked me on Twitter.

You're always welcome, I simply chose Darren to talk about accounts because, as you say, he'd been on TV before, supports United and has 'accountant' in his bio. There's nothing more to it, I don't know him personally. It's not easy getting people to appear on a fan YouTube channel for free so I do what I can.

I don't know what people are worried about. The way inflation is going I calculate Oli McBurnie is worth £78 million now.

And do it well. Always interesting and informative.
