I've read that Fulham's wage bill was £113 million last season, which is not far off the total for our two seasons in the Premier League and they still went down.

He's an accountant who supports the Blades, that's the reason I asked him last time. Numbers are numbers and he simply breaks them down for us in laymans terms. He's very good at that.

I ran his interview past a couple of people before it aired last time, all of whom had looked at the accounts and they said he was accurate and fair.

He's not involved with the club at all now apparently.
Last thing we need on this forum is someone who knows what he's talking about! 😡
The world's gone mad!!!
I wouldn’t worry on that score.

Come on Sensible Blades who's got a piggy mate ?

I am now off to seek help for my addiction.
Wait until they hear about parachute payments. 30 mill of ramsdale + 45 million parachute money. We'll most likely have made a loss this year but 75 million coming into the club does help

We will probably make a loss of around whatever it cost to sack Jokanovic. If our wage bill was £56m before relegation reductions then it'll be lower this season.

That said, if we go up we'll lose £20m+ as we will be paying out huge bonuses.

They reportedly offered Antonee Robinson £60k a week which was one of the reasons they beat us to sign him, so god knows what Mitrovic, Cairney and Wilson will be on.

Ah the old "my United mates say....." is back. Its genuinely incredible how they use the same tropes year after year to make themselves feel better.

Edit: Just seen the classic "if I were them I'd be worried". They're like a shit TV show who rehash the same storylines and catchphrases

I am conflicted by these reports, I am glad we are in profit but all the noises/actions coming out of the club indicate we are seriously brassic.

I think you are misinterpreting what was said.
We clearly are not awash with money and are careful with how we proceed. That may look as if we have nothing .
What is clear is that the future out of the Premiership does not include paying large fees nor wages. If we go up then ...........

Are we really though? Yeah we didn’t throw loads of money on transfers, but we presumably spent big to being Jokanovic onboard (what everyone wanted). We also signed people like Olsen, Davies and MGW who will be ok decent wages and 50% off that can’t be sniffed at.

Plus, last week, Hecky has been backed to bring Uremovic in.

We aren’t loaded by any means, but we seem to be acting conservatively with the long term in mind and that’s fine with me!

No we’re skint. Cutbacks mean that one half of the pitch at Shirecliffe is like a rice paddy and the other hall like a garden on the Cross. When the weathers bad the U18’s take it in turns to sit on the roof covering the hole, Stephen Bettis’ office is now by the cash machine next to Sainsbury on Division Street where he sits 9-5 and the Prince is living above the Cricketers until his council flat is ready!

Oh, there are rumours of a £9.5m profit but as we all know “accounts can say owt” and “weer is it then” are the questions of the day.

Fair points. I would counter with our strategy of going with youth players going forward, not knowing any budgets for contracts for next season yet, issues with training ground, new budget kit manufacturer. The accounts say we are healthy but the above paint a slightly different picture.

I'm not panicking or trying to be negative just saying it's slightly confusing what position the club actually is in behind the scenes

The level of loans they have taken out shows they have some problems, you don't take out out loans against your own property and against future payments you are going to receive if you have money

Awkward……

Exactly so. A good analogy.

Reading Porktalk is a bit like waiting for that moment, every episode, when Hyacinth Bucket falls into the hedge. It’s the predictability, and the fact that you can sense it coming miles away, that makes it funny (in a bleak and humourless kind of way).

Porktalk: more generic than Keeping Up Appearances 🤦‍♂️

Cutting back isn’t the same as being brassic. We’re cutting our cloth according to (a) the division we are in and (b) the liabilities we are lumbered with.

I agree with you though, it’s not all rosy and crystal clear on where the club is going, but I think it’s harsh to say we don’t have a penny.

What I'd say to counter those concerns are we've had an ageing squad for at least 4 or 5 years now so youth is required to build a team for future years to come. We have a reasonably decent hit rate of getting youth players in the first team (before selling them) and it's probably going to be a strategy most clubs outside the top flight adopt, certainly in the short term, as finances are recovered following covid.

Regarding contracts it sensible and pragmatic to wait until the end of the season given our current league position. If we were mid table with nothing to play for I'd understand your concern but we could potentially be a Premier league side again in 3 months and would we be wanting to give contracts out to players who won't have what it takes to play at that level again?

The training ground I'll give you as it's been an ongoing issue but there have been noises at least about trying to sort this out going forward so fingers crossed something is in the pipeline.

I don't think the kit manufacturers has anything to do with finances. In fact the opposite, surely we want the best deal for the club and if that means leaving adidas then so be it. I doubt they paid us top whack and if we're going to be the leading club for a brand then we can expect a much better payment for that.

Time will tell in the end I guess

The accounts posted are positive and better than I feared. One thing to remember for this seasons accounts is that amortisation will still be high and revenue will be reduced. So I would expect this season to post a loss.

I do think we are fairly skint. Some of that profit will have gone on repayments on buying the ground etc. The question will be how we cover any losses from this season. I don't think that the Prince has the capability to cover any significant losses. So this seasons lack of investment on the recruitment front could be a sign of limiting any losses as much as possible.
The share issue could be to get an investor in to help shore up the club going forward.

I don't know how much cause for optimism there is.

The PL money will decrease year on year and we are still committed to some pretty big transfer fees, assuming we haven't paid in full for McBurnie, Brewster etc.

It seems we got some things right with players contracts and the relegation clauses, but I assume this Summer will see us sell Berge and possibly one other and carry on with the freebies and loans policy.
I don't see where the upward trajectory is going to come from whilever Prince is in charge.

You do write some top posts mate - I like reading your stuff. To be honest though - and call it bladey bladey same owd or lack of ambition etc - but I did want Hecky at the end of last season. A Jokanovic whichout riches to spend I feared was too much of a risk for lil' old Sheffield United. Without getting "his" players in I thought it would be a long hard season. I was delighted when Hecky, Jack and Stuart McCall were brought in. With Jokanovic I thought - right manager, wrong time. So let's get back up there (hopefully this season!!!!) doing the things we know and what we were assembled to do. Then evolve in a systematic manner - like Leicester (wishful thinking haha).
Fair play and thanks Snake, very kind of you.

I totally agree that if you want Jokanovic then you probably need to go for the full package ie. a change of personnel to meet his criteria and when he was linked I don't think we knew what would happen with funds.

It seems the problem is that we expected to sell Berge and Ramsdale, probably for around 60m, this creating a buffer of 40m and also giving the manager a pot.

When this didn't happen then it kind of unravelled though I think we could still feel disappointed with Slav in that he had us bottom half. Since Hecky came, the same players have been performing top two. That's some drop off.

In some ways it very much mirrored Robson coming in. Had we gone with Blacky to succeed Warnock from the start then we'd have probably been in the play offs minimum.

The point is that during the current season our income will be hugely less. Instead of the PL money which was over £100 million this season we get parachute a payment of around £45 million. It will be mitigated by gate money for this season which we did not get last season but nevertheless it’s a massive drop for any business. We need to cut the wage bill further I am guessing to compensate and its unlikely we will have money for transfers unless we sell players and reinvest. Unless we get promoted parachute payments fall again to around £20 mill I think so another huge drop So we will need to cut costs further by reducing wages. Employing and then sacking Slav and Co will have been an expensive exercise.

Looks like we are cutting our cloth accordingly to ensure we remain solvent but we are unlikely to be recruiting players on transfer fees.

The problem is that we still have some £70m to find for outstanding transfer fee.
this will partially be offset by the sale of ramsdale, but we will still need to find some £45m

it is subsequently important that we move Berge and possibly Egan, Baldock etc. To enable us to break even.
Any additional windfall from the likes of DCL could be very timely.
