Is Arblaster training with the 1st team as not played for development squads since he came back.
Brooks &recently Ndiah both trained with the 1st team as it aids there development .
No doubt Arblaster and others are real quality prospects giving them time with the 1st team will sure boost there confidence.
I think a decent amount of 23’s are training with the first team in recent training videos belehouan, Brooks,Gordon and starbuck can be seen in them and I’d be surprised if they’re the the only ones. I consider Ndiaye a fringe senior player now that appears for the 23’s rather than an out and out 23’s player given the amount of first team minutes he’s received.

Both Peck and Lankshear (pre-injury) seem to be getting a few pulses racing... Same with a few others, Twitter has a few things to answer for!

And whilst they seem interesting / exciting prospects the stark reality remains that odds are stacked against youth players making it in professional football.

In term of their development and any others in the academy, surely we have to trust those whose literal job it is, is to develop players. A few on here know much much much more than me, but there's a fairly clear pathway through u18s, u23s, loans, first team training etc etc

Surely the best scenario is to keep tabs on any players development (without expectation) and enjoy/support if any end up in and around the first team 👍

Oh! That's a bugger hope it's not seriouse. Does that apply to Lankshear as well Phil? he has disappeared as well.he was flying!
Best way I can explain it is ... I have no way of knowing what the injury status is of individual players. It's not like the first team, where there are regular press conferences where the management can be asked. OK, if a kid gets a knock in an U18 game, then you might glean some info from a match report, or the CBF might have eyes on. But, otherwise, I just go with the main chance. If we ain't seen 'em for a while - Osula (now back of course), Lankshear - then they're probably injured. But, me personally, I don't have any specifics on Lankshear.

Just by chance, one of the CBF asked a senior coach at the Academy (in my hearing) how he was feeling about the Youth Cup. In his response, he said Arblaster was injured.

Yeah that’s the thing lankshear and peck plus some others have proven themselves at 18’s level that’s great and rightly both they and the club should be proud of that. Next step is to do it against older bigger lads in the 23’s and hopefully start to get on people radar for junior international recognition. After that you use that burgeoning reputation to secure good loans in men’s football and try and prove they can handle championship football. They’re several steps away from even being on the fringes of United’s squad. What’s really promising is the shear volume of prospects that seem to be knocking around the academy at the moment we’ve probably not had that since the Maguire, Kennedy, Long, Slew, mcfadzean, whitehouse, Ironside crop with Diego coming up just behind.

I feel like "relaunching" the Carrier Bag Firm & Ball Sup "brands" on this thread.

On the one hand no one, no one goes to U18 & U23 games with a bigger smile on their faces than the Carrier Bag Firm. Wallowing in the way our youngsters play and celebrating their successes. We do, however, enjoy all that in the moment. We don't waste our fucking time wondering & speculating whether they'll make it in the game. We know who played well last Tuesday. We know who has had a good season so far. But, we don't know about future potential. One of the CBF is a recruitment scout for the Academy. We've quizzed him about "Talent Identification" many times. Snake Oil that, not for me. Good luck to all concerned. To the CBF, all our kids are great, we love them to bits, great players, great fun. No point asking our opinion.

But on the other hand, we know the reality, because we have the data in the attic teamsheet boxes & the sacred notebooks. So, we can sound pessimistic & defeatist. Very few kids make it. "He's only played 9 games". "Here's the roster of midfielders in front of him". "He's playing in Academy Division Three".

YouTube and dedicated Twitter for the Academy is brilliant. Many more fans involved & engaged. I don't really have/need/want to Blog about the Academy performance now. Good. Because the Blog is supposed to be about Carrier Bag Firm obsessive nonsense & Ale. Back to Basics.

But, there is a danger. Twitter hype & YouTube highlights reels get hopes up. Good. Hopes need to be up. But, there isn't a YouTube reality reel.

Let 'em play. Let 'em get time on the grass. Let 'em develop.

The real test is sydie capable of taking corners left and right footed after a gallon of imperial stout if he is he's got a future .

Gold plated , diamond encrusted ,only the best lft,s for the famous CBF

The best option to keep him "in house" for now U23s etc potential loan spell next season possibly to someone like Guiseley where we have sent a couple too recently. They seem to get chances for regular football there

On Football Manager as soon as any player I've offered a pro contract to turns 17 I instantly send them out on loan to some skint non-league club where they play 40 odd games to toughen up.

If they do crap and don't show signs of improvement when they return I sell them on a free with a 50% sell on clause, if they do well then next time a higher team takes them on loan and so on.

Statistically 90% of those playing youth football don't make it so I don't see much point in playing it after becoming 17, though I'm no expert ;)

I didn't know Lankshear was injured, how serious is it?
That kid seems to score for fun.

Apologies to LudlamBlade as he was quicker off the mark:

No apology needed mate, just nice to see him around the first team!

From what I've seen of the Academy sides this season, he looks a proper prospect 🤞🏻

Apologies if this has been referred to before but I’ve just seen the lad has had an op on his knee, anyone know what’s happened to the lad?

Fuck k knows, but hope he doesn't get the same surgeon as JOC did, or he's screwed!
