EGAN

I'd cash in and try to buy Charlie Goode, Brentford are almost safe now and I reckon Goode will be available
Are you really say that you would prefer to play a player who has had a decent 15 minute run out in his first appearance & was sent off in his second to a regular big performer for us?
We all know Egan has one particular weakness to the ball over the top but he has performed really well since he was signed, even though he,as much as anyone has, suffered from losing not only Jack for two years but also not having a regular partner this season, but he is still one of our better defenders & is guaranteed to put in 100% every game.
Charlie Goode may well be very good, but it is far too soon to know that, & I doubt we could afford him even if we did sell Egan.

I think he's a great centre half but he can't lead a defence. With JOC and Bash sweeping up behind him they were a brilliant unit. But if you think even in the promotion season and first year in the Prem just how many times those two did have to make last ditch tackles, it showed how exposed Egan could be.

Last year without JOC, simple balls over the top resulted in Egan getting sent off and goals conceded like yesterday. When he's occasionally played in a back 4 he's not looked up to it either. He's missed JOC and he's missing Bash.

Let's be raight though he's been brilliant for us the past few years and we've kept enough clean sheets recently! We know his shortcomings so it's pretty bleedin daft playing a high line yesterday and exposing him isn't it??

Is this a serious suggestion?
Absolutely, assuming as I expect we don't go up and we make a few million on the deals.
I've seen enough of Goode to see he'd be an ideal Championship centre back.
Egans been great for us, but time for him to move on.

Have you been watching him in the few games he played for Brentford, a cameo substitute appearance and 66 minutes before an horrendous tackle? Hardly enough IMO to go all in on him. He's the big lump we've been missing to dominate in the air but he's no prime Egan.

What you have to think is that if Brentford signed him (who's scouts know a bit more than us) to help get them out of the Championship, that's Goode enough for me.

The trouble is prime Egan is becoming more of a rarity these days. All I'm saying is that if we can get good money for him, we should seriously consider it.
I reckon he deserves another crack at the Premier league.

If 'prime Egan 'is becoming more of a rarity why would any Premier League club give us big money for him?

That's clearly up to them, if you look back at the start of this mini thread I said I'd cash in on him if we don't go up.
That doesn't mean give him away for a few million

Okay, but you do know that we bought Egan from Brentford don't you?

imo, he misses Bash, he has never been up to his usual standards when Bash is not by his side.
Agree with that, he looked shaky yesterday, I do think a bit of that was worrying about Gordon, who looked extremely nervous on the ball. Not blaming either of them as it is what it is, and the young lad will be a talent, it’s probably just come a little bit too early for him in his career to be thrown into first team football at this level. It’s been a long season for Egan and it just all went wrong yesterday but apart from Wes, no one played well. Who ever goes up this season, there’s not a prayer they’ll stay up without significant investment, I’d like it to be us, but if we’re getting stuffed by Coventry I’d hate to think we could be playing teams at a higher level than we‘re currently playing, as on yesterday’s performance it would be cricket score against us.

Big John Egan has dropped a couple for me. His positional play, passing and general basic defending has dropped from the high standards he has set himself.

Anyone else noticed this? Still our best defender but it’s noticeable now.
His passing wasn’t the ticket against Forest. Still our backbone though , along with Bash of course.

Goode's impressed you has he, with his one start, red card for a ludicrous tackle and subsequent absence through injury? 😉

Think we need to see more of him and his absence through injury is a concern given how little we rest Egan and how rarely he is injured.

It was obvious from about 5 minutes in that we were set up far, far too high. It was clear as day. We thought we could just press onto them like we did in the Boro game and they just dinked ball after ball over the top of us. Why we didn't change it I've no idea.
The pitch dimensions didn't seem right to me (obviously within parameters tho) seemed a very narrow but long pitch.

Not sure if this is because also a rugby pitch or something Coventry done intentionally.

Egan's easily 1 of our better players, though he has always been susceptible to the long/high ball down the middle!.
Can't comment on him at Coventry as along with most of our squad, he didn't turn up!!!!!! :tumbleweed::rolleyes:

100%

I was at the fight. Great atmosphere and what a fight! I thought Conlan had Wood in early rounds but couldn't finish him off and Wood just kept coming back and back.
Conlan was amazing but just ran out of steam and the shot on the temple did him, but hats off to Wood I thought he was a goner a couple of times, great night despite dem Blades putting a dampner on the day.

Did you go to the match as well? I looked into it, but wasn't feasible as we were travelling from London. Stayed overnight in Nottingham. My brother is a big boxing fan so watched most of the undercard. But loads of lads just stayed in the bar area until the main fight. A couple near me left two rounds before the end because the girl had just gone, zoned out. That said it was an amazing atmosphere and great fight. Wood just kept coming back and back.
