I honestly thought earlier this season there were a few signs that he was starting to show his age.

Nothing wrong in that as the very best start to at 35/36.

I have to say though he has been absolutely phenomenal in recent months for a player of his age. His work rate and all round contribution when we're short on depth up top has been fantastic.

Consistently very good at this level. Irrespective of age.

With one obvious exception, who is better at this level ?

Will play for at least 2-3 years more and still be scoring goals for fun somewhere.

Hugely underrated baller. Chronically shortchanged by Wilder for inferior players brought in at cost to do a job he is simply much better at.

I’m sure he will have enjoyed it last neet quite a bit more than some others 😉.

Why was he short changed? Wilder brought in players as Billy can’t play every game, the other players short changed us

I think he’s getting fitter strangely, never stopped for a second. I’d say his best game of the season.

Another goal, assist and all round cracking performance from Peter Pan! I know one of our ‘fans’ will be cry wanking himself to sleep tonight.
He’s Benjamin Button

Should he have had more pitch time under Wilder ?

What evidence do you have that proves he can’t play in every game ?

Emphatic “yes he bloody well should” IMHO.

I think there was a comment from Wilder and also Hecky that all players need managing with Sat-Tues-Sat.

Billy picked up injuries last season and this and missed games - so I guess that’s your evidence

Everyone picks up injuries. If that’s the only “evidence”, it’s not much to go on.

Of course players need managing. 90 minutes for 46 games almost impossible.

But look back over the 2 seasons in the PL and justify to me the amount of time Bill spent getting splinters in his arris ?

Not sure I said I had evidence beyond the sensible that he can’t play every minute of every game. Not sure it’s just a Billy thing to be honest. Just sensible management from any manager

We all knew in that promotion season that we didn’t have enough strikers and we had a number of them leaving or getting older. Billy, Clarke and Didsy were playing every game in the championship were they?

Off the top of my head I recall Mousse and McBurnie both having decent runs in the team and offering something different to Billy. Just as the view from Boro talks of a plan B, Wilder brought a number of different options in.

As I said, Billy picked up injuries last season as well as this season which proves the need to have a number of alternatives available.

Is there anyone currently that gets in ahead of Billy from the bench? No

They do but CW did more than that, felt like he'd permanently benched him.

Wonder what caused him to turn his head back just after he hugged Knill (14 secs)? Looked concerned about what had happened behind him

He got told he was in the studio in 5 minutes. Not long for him to have a shower and get ready :)

Digging up an old thread, but to me it’s never been more relevant.

At a time when our first choice strikers have been injured, or underperforming, Billy Sharp has stepped up to the plate and led the line like only he can.

Despite the understandable loss of pace, his experience at this level allows PH an agreeable option. Billy can do it alone, or supporting a strike partner like Ndiaye or Jebbinson.

We are indeed very fortunate to have him as an asset to cover the fact that McBurnie is now back, and Jebbinson if fulfilling his potential at last.

Never write him off, because you just know that he will pop up a score a crucial goal just when we need it. I cannot imagine life at the Jane without him.

Billy Sharp. A great example of humanity and a Lane Legend.

Yes can’t disagree with that. Also scored 2 vital goals recently. Against Udders and was it Wigan when we won 2-1 away. Gave us 6 points. Our lead over Watford now 13 points! Heard Carl Asarbs call him “the goat” on SUTV the other day. Never heard him called that before! Great name though!

If we get promoted, this will surely be Billy's final season in a Blades shirt. Enjoy it while you can.

If we somehow miss out on promotion, I'd give him another year - especially if we're skint and have sold half the squad in the summer. He'd play for free, and still be an asset with his hold up play and eye for goal.

Badly short changed of pitch time this season.

Proves time and time again there is still life in the old dog yet.

Plenty still to offer at Championship level.

Needs pitch time at the twilight end of his career. Won’t get it with us next season.

Time to move on Bill and push towards 300.

Bona fide legend 👏.

Give him the remaining games. With promotion confirmed sadly it means Sharps time is up with us. It will be interesting to see where he goes, I doubt he will want to go far. Barnsley or Rotherham maybe?

I wonder what’s in store for him next season?
Is it time to offer him a coaching role at the club? He’s taken his UEFA badges I think?

Got to be inline for a coaching role with the u21s
