Yes, I agree it's more complicated than I suggest. But so far it's anything but a gift, and it's quite clear that the spending on Beattie, and all the other stupid contracts, properties etc have lead to us being next to broke now. If said contracts had been covered by parachute payments and McCabe's generosity, we wouldn't be in the mess we are now.

I've laways argued that MCabe wanted what's best for us. I just think the vast majority of his decisions have spectacularly backfired.

Indeed, but the splashing out in 07-08 was, in itself a reasonable thing to do. The players signed with a half decent manager should have been capable of walking promotion. Where KM went wrong was in appointing a manager whose stunning ineptitude is matached only by Micky Adams. Under the (as many people point out) hardly top rate manager Blackwell those players had a record of P14 W8 D3 L3. Extrapolated over a season that would have given us 89 points, which would have seen us champions and promoted with 12 points to spare!

Aye, agreed. Root cause = Bryan FUCKING Robson......Twat.

Sorry.

Alot of people are on here saying that BT is just unfit.
I have it on good authority that he has slight ligament damage, so its not just a case of doing some fitness work and then playing.

And as for the 'he would rather be at home eating pies and counting his fortune' comments I think that at this stage of his (faltering)career that he might want a last decent contract....

If DW thinks he is good enough and won't be a disruption to the team on or off the pitch and McCabe can afford him then why not?

Although I have a feeling we can't afford him and he will go elsewhere for more money to a championship club..

Bryan FUCKING Robson......Twat.

Agreed!

Every time I see the name Bryan Robson on this forum it brings back that sinking feeling I got in the summer of 2007 when we were first linked with him. I'd just moved to London and couldn't believe the number of fans of different clubs who asked me whether we were seriously considering appointing him.

Forget Blackwell; it's Robson who is to blame for where we are now. McCabe's biggest mistake - choosing a 'name' over any sort of managerial ability.

Agreed. The more I think about it, the more I think that Robson's incompetence was even greater than Adams.

He inherited a squad relegated from the PL by 1 goal and we had only lost Jagielka from that squad. We then signed established PL players in Beattie, Naysmith and Hendrie, followed by Cahill (on loan) a bit later on. We really should have been pissing all over that league. Instead, by Feb, we were worring about relegation!

Agreed. And I lost all respect Id had for the guy for his mumbled, self pitying excuses.

Robson got an easy ride from the press. Most seemed to be in awe of him and it was only after he'd gone that anyone really criticised him.

I like Balham's sinking feeling comment. That was exactly my experience too when we were linked with Robson and I saw the odds get shorter and shorter.

I think it was the worst ever non match related sinking feeling. Worse than selling Jones and Birchenall, worse than Deane and Fjiortoft going, worse than appointing Steve Thompson and certainly worse than Danny Wilson's appointment.

I think it was so bad because it came on the back of the bad luck we had experienced in being relegated and the associated anger over Tevez etc. But the difference was this was us shooting ourselves in the foot - we could not blame anyone else this time. I'd waited a generation for the possibility of United becoming an established Premiership team and the dream would be fritted away.
I have often been wrong about things United-related (I thought Micky Guy and Steve McKee would be stars and Sirrel would do the busineess for us!) but was never so convinced about anything in my life than the fact that Robson would ruin us.

I brooded for the first few matches, was buoyed by Beattie and Sharpe's signings but flipped at Bristol City - one of my few away matches that season. Robson was standing in his dork pose near the touchline as the game fell apart (didn't Paddy deck Hendrie at half time in that game) I ripped into him from about 3 yards away. I should have been thrown out and I'm not proud of what I said, but it was worth it at the time.

In press conf today DW described rumours that BT is soon to be a Blades player again as "very inaccurate"

Which in blades talk usually would mean his signing is "very accurate"

Or is that just wishful thinking?

also heard a rumour that he will only sign with promise that a coaching role will follow his playing career at the lane.
Maybe be difficult to hold that with morgan already taking that step.

This saga has gone on longer than Lord of the Rings and with less basis in reality.

You'll be telling us next that there isn't an Emmerdale in the Yorkshire Dales and Hotten hasn't got an airport.

Hotten International's Amos Brealey Memorial VIP Lounge is legendary. All the waitresses have mutton chops.

Mirror ,Sun ,Bible ,harry Potter, Topsy and Tim all have something in common.

Has his agent finished playing his old clubs against one another to ramp up the interest or is it just lazy journalism.

Cant see it reported anywhere. Free agent still as far as I can see.

I suspect he will end up going there though.

Yes, I had a little look around after I posted, and didn't see any confirmation anywhere. I still really hope he doesn't come here, mind. His wages did enough damage first time around.

That's not a rumour based on fact, that's just someone's opinion based on him nearing the end of his career so it's probably a logical next step. Not seen him quoted anywhere saying he wants to move into coaching though. Might want to open a Sports Bar.

According to the Daily Mirror, that Southampton are interested in re signing him. Game Over then!
Guesswork based on the fact he used to play for them. If Everton were in Championship they'd be linking him with them. Lazy lazy journalism. They ought to be ashamed of themselves.... oh they're jounalists. It's not an emotion they're cabable of.
