This is like the second coming of the Great Prophet Zarquon [/Nerd]

For those not in the know, that happened mere seconds before the end of the Universe, and indeed time itself.

Theres jizz flying all over Bladesmad that hes signed until January indeed. I dont believe it, I..I just dont believe it.

I can't get on the OS, they must be updating it with confetti and other celebratory paraphernalia for our returning hero.

If, as the rumour suggests, he's signed until Jan, that makes it more plausible. However, I can't see it coming to fruition, as before

Thought he was training with Bournemouth.....here's what a Blackpool fan(?) said...

We asked Jack Gaughan from Vital Blackpool to tell us about the Cherries potential new signing.

He said...

We signed Beattie on loan from Rangers in January. At the time, the team were comfortably stable in the Premier League and just needed that extra goalscorer to get us over the line in the quest for survival. In the first half of the season the inability to kill off games costing Pool precious points.

He obviously wasn't our first (or indeed second, third, fourth...) choice striker in the January sales, hence the deal was done on deadline day. Nevertheless, James Beattie was a big name for a club like Blackpool and had pedigree in the top flight.

What we got was an unfit and slow shadow of the striker who scored all those goals for Southampton and who was capped by England. But at 33 you wouldn't expect him to be a spring chicken harrying defenders and getting in behind a back four.

However, what was expected - and I don't think unreasonably - was at least a feigning of interest, the ability to hold a ball up and the intelligence to be able to lead a three-man attack. We sadly didn't experience any of these things, attributes that are fairly mandatory throughout the football league

Although starting brightly - grabbing an assist on debut in our win against Spurs - Beattie looked under increasing pressure as the games went on. This culminated in him gifting Bobby Zamora the opening goal in a 3-0 defeat at Craven Cottage. Beattie gathered the ball in on the halfway line and played a pass that split our two central defenders and allowed Zamora to run clean through on goal and score.

I'm afraid that will be the lasting memory of him at Blackpool. It's extremely rare that a player doesn't click with the supporters up here on the Fylde Coast, but JB managed it in just nine appearances for the club. The main gripe amongst fans was that he must've been on a heavy wage packet.

I saw him play for Rangers in a friendly during the summer and he did look slightly fitter but didn't pose a threat to our second choice centre halves. However, in League One the name on the back of his shirt might allow other players to slip under the radar and perform. He might be cack, but Beattie will be paid special attention to and occupy markers who could be used effectively elsewhere. Maybe that could see the likes of Marc Pugh flourish and continue the revival?

Oh, one other thing: he needs to play in a 4-4-2 - he's simply not mobile enough to play in a three.

Good luck! You can have Craig Sutherland or Tom Barkhuizen on loan from us - much younger, cheaper and better value for money...

Thanks again to Jack for taking the time to tell us his views.

Giving him a contract to Jan makes sense then extend if he reproves himself.

So, basically old, slow, lazy, expensive, needs a team fashioning round him to put the ball at his feet six yards out or offers nothing.

Haven't we tried this before?

What do you mean tried this before, yes had BT before and his record speaks for itself, the guy can finish if every chance this season that fell to porter had fallen to Beattie instead we'd be top 2.

But every chance that falls to Porter won't fall to Beattie will it? He won't be able to get on the end of most of them. If it was Kevin Phillips we were getting I'd be as giddy as the next man and out buying mini ST ( Hi Mic) but having seen Beattie approx 18 months ago failing to trouble even Hibs defence (Kenny Miller got a hat-trick btw) then there's no way he's going to earn his corn anymore.

No brainer for me, try him. The other options are Cresswell or Porter. If he signs for 6 weeks what have we got to lose? This is league one, perhaps he can make an impression. Im not writing him off based on the opinion of one Blackpool fan looking back on a relegation season.

He might not come for 6 weeks though. You have to ask yourself why he's unattached? I'd have a stab that his wages are a stumbling block to most clubs at this level.

Easy, Pay as you play or Pay as you score, works for Michael Owen, plus he's not much older than Creswell and we gave him 3 years FFS. He'll put the fear of god into some centre halves in his league just by being on the pitch

Tis him at Shirecliffe today apparently according to a few on BM.

A long way to travel from Bournemouth to Sheffield if he isn't signing.

Must. Not. Get. Excited. Yet.... BAAARRRRRGHHHH!!!

Creswell, Porter and Ched have all scored in league 1. Beatts will rip it apart.

Yes. I think the 'the goal machine TM PiggeryPRcorp' has had a decent enough head start on the golden boots stakes. Beattie will be hot on his heels come March.

If Beattie does rejoin us I think we should be looking to get rid of Porter.

Forget getting Clarke back but certainly should move to get Phillips back on loan.

Hopefully no. If yes, then hopefully cheap. If not cheap, then hopefully he brings a big uplift in feel good factor. Not for me though. Feels like the mistakes of the past being repeated. And it we're going to do that, let's at least inject some pace.

UTB

big mistake if true ........................................ get em yung and on the way up .....not past it and on the way down !
anyway he's always got flu !
