yes there was a punch up in tunnel before boxing day game vf its in tony kenworthys autobiography big jacks statement in the star that he planned no man marking on sabella lasted all of 2 minutes when king booted him 9ft in to the air alex went missing then for the next 88 minutes
Must admit have little recollection of the game, just a bad day all round.
No public transport, so set off to walk, with 14 year old daughter, only good thing that day was offered a lift by fellow Blade.
Scenes in that tunnel on Leppings Lane, not good, like sardines couldn't move forward despite coppers trying to drive us forward.
To cap it all, only game I managed to spot miself on photos of a match and even that was when they took the penalty.

Looking at the photo, bat in hand, gloves on and I bet he's got his pads on, even got the ball. Reminds me of a Botham story.
Whilst rooming with Sir Geoff on tour, everyone was out on the piss one night, except Geoff. Botham returns to their room, at some ungodly hour, to find Geoff, bollock naked except for pads ,box and gloves, bat in hand, practicing his strokes.

Don't you hate it when someone bursts in on you practising your strokes?

Wow!!! Follow that.
Well I will, have you got or ever seen a photo of Hodgy, Blad, horizontal ball in hands, flat hat on and his legs crossed showing how easy it all was for him.
Not a figment of my imagination, I had this newspaper cut out photo from around 1955, could be a little earlier, maybe. Gone now with time and never seen by me, since. You appear to have a priceless collection of Blades photos, so, with thanks for your magnificent contribution to this thread and a pre,
'Thank You' if you could produce the said photo I mention
Hodgy, best but my heart says Ted, with mention to 'Daz' for his long service and stability.
Young HJ, never saw him but knew some one who did and he spoke Very Highly of him.

we were round the far side just under crows nest that day miserable day for all blades

Our supporters coach dropped us off and picked us up on that corner from 1970 - 74 (thats when i used it) got all billy big bollox and started to use the 221 bus with my mates from 74. Used to cost 7.5p for the round trip in 1970, went up to the scandalous amount of 15p by 1975. Always remember the excitement of getting back on the coach to the theme tune of sports report snd awaiting the results and reports on the way home . Windows steaming up and not being able to see the front of the coach because of the fag smoke.

Happy bloody days and great time to be a Blade.

I was in the crows nest. Plenty of room up there as I recall.
think there was 15k blades on leppings lane that day think if that shot that came back off the crossbar then think it was mcphail who hit the follow up straight at bolder had gone in it would have been a different result bolder was praised for that save and it was a good save but mcphail should have buried the rebound

Jeff Bourne - what a hairdo he had. Thought he was quite a cultured footballer tbh but what do i know.

Started off like a house on fire i seem to remember but faded badly - much like the whole team of course .

That’s a brilliant description of a Hodgy photo. I don’t know the picture, but the photos below each match some, but not all, the features you describe:
