So two left feet has departed for Millwall, this has seriously reduced the average pace of the squad along with the missing Mousset.

Walking pace football rules,at SUFC.

Doesn't seem the best bit of business, we're probably subsidising his wages and then we've got him back next season for his final year.
I was hoping we could have got rid completely.
Thanks again Mr. Wilder for a fantastic signing

In some ways Wilder has left us pretty much in the way Clough left us just with more expensive players that we can't move on.

Clearly not a part of Hecky's plans as seems to have been stuck on the bench and unused. Still weakens us as Moose and McBurnie are often unavailable.

Hope he gets some game time at Millwall and a chance to prove himself.

Happy days if he does he’s still our player with time left on his contract. If he bangs a few goals in between now and the end of the season someone might actually give us some money for him in the summer. I hope he goes and looks like Bale 😂

Do we really need him to come back having spent more time at the Belfry than in training?

Why we swapped Robinson for him I'll never know, even WBA fans were ready to drive him here...
Fans are never wrong (generally unless it the blades) about players.

Burke was far more effective than Callum Robinson in our system. Admittedly the benchmark was low.

We didn't get Robinson into positions to be effective, he constantly had his back to goal and got bullied. We played him like a centre forward and he was woeful at it. He also made zero effort when things didn't go his way and pissed and moaned.

At least with Burke you could chuck a ball down a channel and he would chase it and we might get up the field off the back of a throw in or something. His closing down and general pace and strength occasionally did lead to things and did give defenders something to think about. And the difference between him & Robinson was that his attitude was spot on. He kept going.

Robinson, a standout Championship winger/CAM, was signed and immediately deployed as a CF in the Premier League. At the time I used to tear my hair out watching Robinson's light jog press but overlooking that it was still a tough ask for a player to join a new club & adapt to a new role in the PL. See also how we signed Freeman and deployed a flat 3 midfield.

We then swapped CR for OB who had a dismal record before he joined us. Attribute wise he's a wide player and yet again another signing that positionally was a bad fit for Wilderball. Whatever Mitchell & Wilder thought they could make of him only they'll know.

You didn't even need the benefit of hindsight to see just how poorly Wilder recruited in the PL. Alot of our current woes are repercussions of his transfer strategy.

His missus will be made up with this move, imagine the photo opportunities in London and the shops are world class, plus the restaurants and the theatres.......

GLTTL.. I'll be having him to score if they start him today.. For no other reason than its the "blades way"

He's gone. Whether we are subsidising his wages or not, I couldn't care less. We were paying 100% of his wages and never playing him, so we are better off. Plus I still don't know what he's good at, or even competent at. He runs fast, but that's it. Really, that's it.

You're spot on with everything you say. I feel like we signed Callum Robinson just because we could.

But we weren't planning on coming down after our 9th place finish, so it made sense to switch Robinson out (who'd proven totally useless to us in our system) for a player with immense raw attributes (pace / strength) who as a minimum might give us something off the bench and with a potential lot of upside (even though it didn't transpire).

In hindsight, Robinson would have been more useful to us this season in the Championship but I supported the swap at the time & it was for the better whilst we were in the PL.

This

There are others I would have moved on before Burke

What a weird signing he was.
He wasn't a winger, or a striker.

Will we be bringing in anyone this window? It isn't looking good ATM is it?

Don’t think it’s the worst deal in the world for them..he’s a different option at least.. I think his biggest downside is his wages..

If Millwall have got him on minimal outlay then he’s a decent option from the bench when you’re ahead and need to see the game out

I’d hope there is at least a GK of any standard just to make up numbers. That’s my level of expectation for this window and the foreseeable for that matter

Waste of a signing again by us , he would have been useful for us this season

Especially these past two games when we offered no pace or present to hold the ball or keep it

No one of any note will be coming in

We are scratching the barrel and if anyone comes in for anyone - they’re off to cut the wages and ease the cash flow

We are treading water until a new owner is found

Until then we need to stay in this division

That’s about it I would say

Not having a goalie incoming would be negligent
Criminally.

Fair play to Wes for stepping up, when everyone had written him off, but to leave us with Eastwood as back up would be insanity and no 3rd choice either

I have zero against Eastwood yet all I do is seemingly a peak negatively about the guy, he is 25 and we are ruining his career by just holding onto him he will leave us and drop down the leagues like a stone when he does move on

It certainly seems to be the case. I know the Newcastle story is a theory but it does make sense.. we may not have appeared to spend money in the summer but we brought in Slav on the biggest wage in the league and signed

Davies on big wages
MGM on Big wages
Olsen on Big wages

And then within 6 months the prince disappears completely and our whole ethos changes to promote from within and become self sustainable.. screens keep things ticking over until the club is sold

Good job he won't be able to play against us, after seeing the way Preston carved us open on the break, with our defenders too high up the pitch.

If Millwall have just one, fast, skillful striker, they just need Burke to catch us/anyone, pressing too high up the pitch, he overtakes the defenders, gets down to the by line and crosses in. As long as a decent striker can keep up with him, and get into the box, bingo.

He did that a few times for us, but no one could keep up with him, and if they did, they were wasteful with the chance.
