Henderson won us games over the two season we had him, Ramsdale kept the scores down in the second half of last season. They both had Moore pushing them.

You need a long term reliable number 2 & Eastwood isn’t that at the moment.

I’d prefer Foderingham to be that number 2 but I think we’ll risk it which is worrying. What if Foderingham gets injured? You’re down to Eastwood & Dewhurst
It’s very worrying Dewhurst isn’t ready and I’m out on Eastwood he’s older than ramsdale and Henderson and isn’t as good as long was

Looks like this one is done. We must have a replacement then.

Brum Newspaper reporting that Villa's reserve keeper, Jed Steer is considering his options if/when Olsen signs, played one game in 2 years, when Martinez was isolating due to covid restrictions, we don't have a lot of cash to throw around, I hope we used Olsen as a bit of a bargaining chip, re letting him go quickly, for someone from Villa?

Jed Steer on loan for the rest of the season makes a lot of sense for both parties. Gets him game time while he considers his options and gets us a good keeper in to cover until summer. I suspect we could probably persuade Villa to cover most of his wages as well as we've done them a favour.

Well as I say, you would hope we have someone 'switched on' to have explored that option, it is a bit of a no brainer, speeds up the Olsen move, and we get cover, the player gets a chance to play, shop window and all that, and time to think re stick or moving permanently in the summer

Far too sensible a suggestion for our recruitment team. They are on a mission find someone to sit on the bench for the rest of the season thats very cheap and grateful.

Its the apparent tacit acceptance that Foderingham has been elevated to number 1 status that is annoying many if we go for Fielding. WF has shown himself to be a capable deputy these last few weeks but his record to date suggests he is nothing more than that. Steer at least has played regularly in a promotion championship winning team and at 6 foot 2 is more able to dominate his area. He's confirmed he's looking for a new challenge. The money we save on Olsens wages and Verrips should be sufficient to cover a loan but we won't go there.

Interesting move this. Using that trigger word but Gerrard said that vaccination status would play a part in their Jan recruitment so maybe means Olsen was jabbed after all??

Recruitment of a new GK depends on whether competition or cover is wanted. Personally, even though he hasn't done a huge amount wrong, I still don't see WF as a top-end Championship keeper and an upgrade (or at very least serious competition) is required if Utd have any serious ambition to make the play-offs this season.

From the mention of Fielding, it would appear that the club don't agree and cover is all that's required (or able to be afforded).

Unless WF is now seen as a long term solution, perhaps a new perm signing will be made over summer as part of a wider rebuild of the squad, which will hopefully result in Utd being more serious promotion contenders next season.

Good riddance, gets him off our loan schedule and wages.....complete waste of a move really and I am genuinely baffled how he is Swedens no1.

Villa fans should be saying a little prayer to the footballing Gods that they don't actually have to use him...
Hindsight is wonderful and all that, and to be fair being a back up keeper is a difficult job, but Olsen didn't do anything much to stand out, or put pressure on Pickford when he warmed Evertons bench, admittedly he might have not got many chances, but he didn't take any of them!

I think we'd all do the same in his position. If he's unable to get a starting place anywhere, he's better off sitting on Villa's bench than Utd's, especially with the World Cup looming.
He never wanted to be here in the first place and played like it.

He actually had a chance to be first team here but seems he is all about that bench life.

Has he been injured or has he just not been arsed. Absolutely good riddance

Presumably means another keeper is on their way?

I find it baffling that Sweden's national no.1 is a career back up who failed to get game time at Everton, Roma, SUFC and is now off for more of the same at Villa.
Maarten Stekelenburg spent a lot of time warming benches even though he was the Netherlands' number 1 - weird that these high profile keepers are happy to play back up
