Will someone in the management/coaching team please explain to Ched how and when to pass? While they are at it, will they explain what alertness and anticipation is?

It must frustrate the hell out of his team mates to see someone "earning" so much more than them and doing so little towards the team's efforts. If his team mates are making good runs into scoring spaces and he decides to go dribbling into dead-ends more often than not, it makes them think twice before doing it time and time again to no avail. Similarly, if someone plays a pass towards him or a space that he could run into only to see him not react until too late will have a similar demotivating effect on his team mates.

In my view, United's dip in success has coincided with Ched's return to the team..I know that United beat Colchester with his help but not many wouldn't have on that day. I am convinced that we did much better as a team before his return.
Beattie anyone, or would he have the same effect?

Whilst I wouldn't single Ched out, some players go to a club and it just doesn't work. That is the case for us and Ched Evans. I think wherever he ends up next he'll join the list of players that leave us because we regard them as crap but then do quite well for himself.

At the moment though, Ched is a better option than a poor Porter and a past his best Cresswell. Is Philliskirk not up to the mark? If not, why are we signing players in our current financial state to play for the reserves?

Beattie has a history of scoring goals at most clubs he has been at. Money (ambition) permitting, he'd be a damn good coup for us at this level.

Not being Ched's greatest fan I am sure that his lack of goals is not just down to us.
He is, actually, useless.

I have actually stood by the signing of Evans since the day he put pen to paper and not once has he hinted of being capable in the art of playing football !
I have now come to the same conclusion he is useless!!!

I must admit,I am struggling to think of many players who we thought were crap who then did well when they left us. I can only think of Clive Mendonca and Billy Sharp...but then a lot of fans didn't think they were crap, just that we didn't give them a chance

,just that we didn't give them a chance
That argument will be mute by the end of the season though. I believe the Blackwell didn't help Evans however that excuse cannot continue to run when you've had 4 managers with different styles and different team setups.

If he doesn't bag 20-25 goals this season there isn't really any further protection he can be offered.

Ched has been one of the few players that has looked anything like for gods sake. Comes back and rescues a draw at Scunny. Scores opener after a few minutes against Colchester. Hits bar with a wonderful left foot volley at Wycombe and cracks woodwork with a striker against Charlton. Yet hes getting the hammer. Why is POrter starting before Cresswell thats my main problem.

FFS – Ched looks nothing like anything resembling a decent footballer.

Think and compare him to Deane, Agana, Edwards, Ned Kelly, Dearden, Hatton, Hulse, Mel Eves, Stead, Nathan Blake, Andy Gray, even. He is not a player for a big game – or any feckin game for that matter.

Ched never plays well against a decent team. He seldom, if ever steps up to the plate when it matters.
He gets lost too easily since his game depends on getting space created when poor players make mistakes. He does not have the ability to take on a player (without losing control) and plays with his head down (which means his team mates are out of the game).

Sure he scored an equaliser vs Scunny - but then missed a sitter to win it - Good strikers score those chances as well.
The one that hit the bar at Wycombe was a swinger. If he was any good he would have been accurate with the first attempt from the free kick. As it is he let the lefty swing and it nearly paid off.
Trick is he didn't think about it - pure instinct and as I keep banging on about - he has one attribute and that is a decent shot - but it needs the rest to be a footballer.

His positional play is awful – when the ball was lumped into the channel on Saturday is was Porter who had to make the runs left or right and Ched just sauntered around in the middle not knowing what to do. He never shows – so the midfield have to turn and that ends up in them losing the ball since there is limited or no outlet – it’s no good one striker showing and the other hiding.
He gets offside when he should be looking to stay on and the attack breaks down.

As a target he is as useful as a chocolate fireguard - He makes a criminal attempt at headers against defenders (second goal vs Charlton – if he made more effort the ball would have not come straight back for Collins to make the ricket).

Feck me Luton Shelton had one attribute and that didn’t make him anything like a decent striker.

Why would I want to compare Evans to Deane? we dont have Deane. I was pointing out he has been one of the better players of late but seems to be coming in for more stick.

Ashame really he came back in his first game in a while and scored then it seems to have all gone quiet again. He rattles the post at best now and its clear we won't see the best from him even if he doesn't get sent down.

I've disliked Evans since around his third game for us when I realised we'd wasted our money and gambled our club's future on the wrong man - made even worse when you think we paid more for him than we got for Walker.

To be fair to him if he'd come from Burton for 10k and was 19 we'd be thinking he might be worth keeping around as a half decent league 1 squad striker and then off loading if we went up.

But he cost £3m and his wages could pay the wages of four decent League One players including a better striker.

His decision-making was simply awful on Saturday but then it always has been.

I'd love to be proved wrong for the sake of the club but he has had far more than his fair share of first team chances given his performances and he is now playing against defences supposedly two leagues below his standard.

If we had glimpsed some great natural attributes like pace or height or athleticism or great finishing then it would be fair to think he'll come good again but he never was any good.

Our best hope is he hits a purple patch and we manage to sell him on (assuming his off pitch problem is sorted of course) to a foolish champ club.

his style of play is 'unconventional' to say the least as far as forward play is concerned.. he kind of looks quality at times but i'm coming to the conclusion that he flatters to deceive

He would be better coming off the bench or being the second striker to a deane type player.

He would be better coming on the bench - at his next court appearance.

I'm here all week ;)

Average though he is, Evans is the best forward we have. We clearly need to improve our strikeforce - and to generally increase the pace in the team - but some on here do appear to be placing too much focus on Evans' shortcomings. I know he allegedly cost £3m - but that was the Board's fault, not his. I agree it would be better if we could sell him & use the money on 2 or 3 replacements (although with Scrooge McCabe in charge, won't the money just disappear?) but until that happens or until we bring 2 more strikers in - I think we will have to persist with him.

All we need to do is find a pacey striker, who can finish, to play alongside him. Easy.....

Deano - Eeyore is not the best striker at the club. He is the highest paid and the most disappointing but he is not the best.

Tonne has shown more in his cameos than the Cheddar Chees Puff has in his.
Even Cresswell has shown more.

The Evanesence of this is that we need to get the replacement you suggest but not to play alongside Eeyore since he would queer the pitch for them.
The last time Eeyore tried to work in a double team he got into some pretty hot water (I am led to believe).

I take it you don't get to many games Ken?

Enough to know Deano.
Listen to those I don't get to
Watch the highlights on BP

You a bigger Blade than me Deano?

Always thought Evans could score but not in the style of game we were playing. Glad he could make a few eat their words tonight. Thank you Ched!

I couldn't go tonight, mate. Keith Edwards and Ronnie Moore said we reverted to Hoof. If so, I do hope it's an isolated aberration.

Good goal from Evans but he should have had AT LEAST another goal straight after that when he missed a sitter (when he could also have passed for a certain goal).

I think we're forgetting though that he's still only 22 (same age as Lowton).

Still say, and always have said, Ched will score goals if we give him the right service. Best forward we have currently, (although he is not up against much) My view, taking the away the court case, which may take it out of our hands ,we need to keep him until the end of the season.

Yes, I think you can tell from parts of Ched's game that he is a cut above our other strikers yet we do love a scapegoat, don't we? (BTW, when is Monty back?)

He's young, got problems none of us would want and will almost certainly join some other club and prosper.

McCabe is making Plans, right now, to ensure Ched scores every week against the likes of Rotherham
