SUFC Transfer Strategy

The minute we show any interest some other bugger (Dean Smith) comes along with a bigger cheque book

Reasonable, except for number 3

We don't sign anybody unless nobody else is interested

And if its a half decent player, somebody else somewhere will be interested, meaning we've no chance.

On the 29th August all decent players will be signed and settled, or pretty much fixed up, and there'll be a barrel to scrape somewhere.

We'll start scraping, liking a tramp rummaging through the bins, we'll start negotiating for a player who's only alternative will be non league and a part time job at B&Q, and we'll still only 50% convince him.
But then give him a 5 year contract

Another aspect of our strategy that I forgot is chase/wait on excessively and eventually get players like:

Leonard
Holmes
Freeman
C. Robinson
Bogle
Verrips
Brewster

And then don't play them that much

That’s the clubs deliberate strategy? :)

It's the club's strategy to chase certain players excessively yes.

The fact that they didn't work showed that their strategy did not work.

Of course not every transfer can be a success, but it's strange those names did not get to play much after so much effort was made to sign them. Was our quality of due diligence checks not good enough, or was it down to the manager?

Of that list it looks more like Wilders strategy rather than SUFC and may also show that the board claim that they asked for several names is accurate.

Then there’s the final point that it’s the clubs strategy not to play them much, which again would be down to Wilder? Whoever, not playing them as a strategy is one of the dumbest things you’ve ever said.

The strategy is that we look for players, recruit them then play them and they do well.

If that's not the strategy then what is it?

If that is the strategy then it clearly failed in the examples I gave.

Eh?

If we don’t have players through the door by the weekend it’s highly improbable you’ll see 5 new signings by Tuesday.

A famous Chess player, Gary Kasparov, once said:

'It is better to have a bad plan than no plan at all'

I'm starting to understand that and starting to believe we don't really have a plan which is the most worrying

I see clubs are sniffing around Jebbison Everton plus others . At this time when our strikers could not hit a bloody barn door surely this is the time for our club to break the habit of a life time and keep our young talent instead of selling them for peanuts and regretting it in a couple of years time when we see them playing in the prem whilst we are in div 1.

Besic
Robbie Brady
Bentaleb
Ibe
Mangala
Ntcham
Andre Wisdom
Jovanovic
All still free agents (as far as I know), surely at least one of these could do a job for us?

The strategy seems to be get a new midfield. Hmm, Slavs outburst Saturday may have been the catalyst to getting the board and scout team into gear. Or maybe, this was their cunning plan all along, to wait til the last day. 🤔

4. Another club gazumps us, or it falls through because of visa issues, medical or another complication (even us changing our mind)

Well am I a clairvoyant 😂 😂 😂 😂

Who was responsible for checking visa issues in time? And why have we not learned that agents have and always will try to screw things over after Jerome Sinclair?

When you leave things to the last minute in any business or walk or life these things can happen, where and what was the strategy this window?

The leech bastards just love late deals in the last few hours of deadline day; "I need another £50k for my expenses"

It's been said in other threads but last season Abdullah criticised Wilder for putting all his eggs in one basket in terms of transfers. This season whoever is in charge of transfers seems to have done the same without bothering to check the rules on international clearance.

Amateurs.

It really is embarrassing, especially that a forum poster (and I'm not the only one) predicts exactly what was going to happen and seems to have greater understanding of what's required than paid so called professionals.

I'm going to try and bring this up at the next fan's forum, there really is no excuse.

Sheffield United’s transfer strength is a bit like Boris Johnson’s integrity.. there isn’t one,

They say the academy is he future of the club, Every decent player that’s come out of it we’ve fucking sold them. That’s why we are the Biggest club in the country to win fuck all since 1945.
