I find it unbelievable some of the criticism on here for Wilder. I can only think I that these muppets or either Pigs or Morons.

The man gave us our club and identity back, some signings may not have worked out as he or we had hoped, but I’d love to know who all these other world class players are that wanted to come to Sheffield and play on the wages that we can offer.

The narrative of him sneaking out the back door is just bollocks, he’s not that type of character. It was quite obviously a clash between him and the owners.

It’s also pathetic that people are now calling for Slav to be moved on, what does sacking a manager this early on achieve. Just look at what has happened with that approach over at the rusty side of town.

Yes we are in a shit situation and yes yesterday’s performance was one of far too many poor performances, but we are still in a decent position to build for a comeback.

For those genuine Blades on here, let’s keep it together and not behave like children, let’s behave like Blades MEN and get through this situation that we are currently in.

If anyone wants any confirmation of how bad things can get then put ITV on right now and watch the coverage of The massive. Some fat Geordie talking about a cup run where they lost in two consecutive finals and are now playing in the Dog and Duck league once again.

Keep the faith. UTB 👊🏻❤️

Hi Stegosaurus here,

I think Wilder was overrated.

He fluked his way into an admittedly good formation--maybe I'll stretch to a great formation. But then, when teams figured it out, there was no Plan B and he stubbornly stuck with it even though it clearly wasnt working.

Then, he flat-out lost the dressing room with his comments after the Leicester match and playing Lundstram even though he clearly didn't care which had a negative impact on the rest of the side.

Not to mention the millions he spaffed away.

Excellent insight. Shouldn’t you be sat in that crumbling shed watching your boys play the mighty Plymouth.

Surely it’s ok to recognise CW’s achievements (fantastic given the resources) whilst also being able to criticise his failings (spectacular, given the resources). I don’t think you need to be at polar opposite ends of the spectrum to recognise both.
Yeah of course, and he like all of us will have learnt from the experiences amongst the way.

I’m not saying he’s infallible or above criticism because there are plenty of things that could have been done better.

But my personal opinion is that if Chris was still at the football club we would be closer to Promotion than we currently find ourselves.

People have very short memories around who took the club from L1 obscurity to the brink of Europe qualification.

Also I get tired of all the 'Wilders left us with all these crap players' mantra.

But surely it was his skill and man management qualities that got all the amazing performances from many of the players that he signed for very little/next to nothing ie Fleck, Norwood,Baldock, Stevens,Clarke, Duffy etc al within the system that was very successful

Maybe another coach/manager just isn't able to replicate it.

Two promotions and 9th finish - perhaps it was all just lucky.

We used to pur when Wilder ripped into his usually high performing team after the occasional blip, and admire how he absolutely would not accept mediocrity from his team. It's only fair to apply the same standards to him.

So on that basis, he gave us an incredible 3.5 seasons, the like of which I will probably never see again following this club..but, he absolutely lost his marbles in the final part of his tenure, gave us the most embarrassing season I can ever remember, refused to take his fair share of the blame and left us chronically under strength for the level at which we were playing.

So whilst I will always be thankful for the good things he did, I also resent this shit state that he largely created and then walked away from.

As said before why do people have to be one side or the other?

Its abundantly clear that Wilder did a miraculous job getting us from league 1 to the premier league on limited resources. He picked up some very good players for.peanuts and developed a style of playing that worked. He gave us our club back and gave us 4 seasons where we were proud to be Blades and basked in the position of.media.darlings.

It's also abundantly clear that he wasted a load of.money on transfer fees and wages and was very wrong when belittling anyone who talked about second season syndrome. As a result he had no plan B and we continued to play exactly the same way after being worked out.

However his biggest failing was 'rewarding' too many old players with big, long term contracts and we are now paying the price for that. Until those albatrosses are removed from our neck I think we will continue to struggle.

We lost an integral player for us in JOC.

We lost an integral part of the team in the backing that we gave them.

He didn’t lose his marbles, he fell out with the owners. I don’t resent anything about what he did, I resent the circumstances that COVID brought about and the momentum we lost as a result.

Who were the players that he should have brought in that wanted to come and play for us?

He rewarded the players who helped us achieve what seemed impossible.

I love what Wilder did for us. Some of my very happiest memories as a blade are thanks to Wilder, but that doesn't make him immune from criticism. We have a group of players who haven't put in consistent good performances for nearly two seasons. Almost all of which Wilder signed. We have spent more than we could have previously dreamt of and look worse than last time we were at this level. Wilder has to take criticism for that, he certainly got the praise for the success.

I've no issue with Chris at all. He came in and rescued us at a time where we were at our lowest. Can't thank him enough and some of the memories I will keep forever (Being at Hillsborough when we won 4-2). In my lifetime he's the best United Manager we've ever had.

My issue is small parts of our fanbase, who seem to care more about Chris than United. Constantly putting down the club wherever they can. Dont even get me started with his "Mates" that I see on twitter. It's almost as if they want the club to fail to prove some sort of point. Let's be clear, Chris tried to leave TWICE before they came to an agreement to part ways. While we have this ownership at this football club, Chris is unlikely to return. So please, do us all a favour and support the Club which has been shite for the most part of our lives.

Chris has moved on, you should too.

Thing is Gav, he walked. After wasting a potentially ruinous amount of money and then demanding even more.

The problem I have with much of the discussions around Wilder (or anything on here really) is that everything has to be 100% one way or another. He's either an untouchable god or the antichrist.

Wilder gave the club and fans some of our greatest (post-war) moments but also some of our most embarrassing ones as well.

For all the praise he deserves for taking a very average group of players to 9th in the EPL he deserves the criticism for last season and his transfer business.

I just wish people would stop demanding his return every time we have a bad result.

I’m thinking you could be a porker.
last season was embarrassing and he left us with an absolutely shocking team.
no one of his signings had any technical ability and that really showed in the Prem.

Mate every other team had to cope with COVID too, and our performances had been slipping a bit before lockdown. The pause was an opportunity to re set and consider something new.
Yes we seemed to suffer badly without our support but it was for Wilder and his team to motivate the players through that.
No other manager seemed to struggle as badly under the same circumstances.
I admit the loss of JOC was huge though.

I agree in that I don’t think he should return. And he isn’t without fault or criticism.

You are right also that it shouldn’t be totally one end of the spectrum or the other.

He shouldn’t be made the scapegoat that some try and paint him to be. It was a perfect storm of events that led us do that poor season. Not all just on Wilders shoulders.

Let’s hope that Slav is afforded more time and resources to achieve a successful new chapter for us.

I can’t argue against that pal. But I do think it hit us harder than most in the division we were in. City, Liverpool and all the rest of the elite don’t need the lift of the fans when playing us, but we do against them.

Like I say Chris isn’t infallible or without fault but I do think he should still get a little bit more of a pass from certain people if they truly are Blades.

Fck me...this is surely some piss poor attempt at some form of sarcasm?

The Bobbiesblade post btw...

He rewarded the players who helped us achieve what seemed impossible.
Those players we already being amply rewarding on premier league salaries, there was no need to pay them more and extend their contracts. He.made the same mistake with Leon Clarke. We aren't a charity.

Berge has no technical ability? Interesting.

It is reasonable to criticise Wilder as he got some things wrong and perhaps left us with a legacy which is hard to remove.
However he has now gone, having given many of us some of the best seasons that we have seen, so let’s concentrate on the here and now and hope that this manager has the desire and is given the time to put things right.

I would say that some of his mates do accept and realise he had his faults and failings.

Sheffield United are much more important than one mans successes/failures.

I was made up when we announced Slav, I’m hoping that good times are coming back for us all soon.

If you are successful as a lot of those players were in getting us to the Premier League from League 1 then you would reward them for their efforts. That’s not all down to Wilder, that requires signing off from the board.

Which players in particular and what are the detail of their contracts out of interest?
