Safe Standing

Not going to happen at the Lane, the Lane end is far too steep, John St is a non starter as the view from the boxes would be blocked, same for South stand as the press are up the back. the only feasible place to introduce Standing would have to be the kop so it would have to be at the back or change the whole lot to standing which I can't see happening.

Agree, it would have to be an area at the back of the kop, if we ever do extend the kop then that would be the time to do it.

Safe standing is fabulous. I've experienced it abroad and loved it! Much improved atmosphere and I once read that you live longer standing rather than sitting for long periods...😉

There’s an important factor that ensures a much better atmosphere.

I believe in Germany the ratio is 1.6 (standing) to 1 seat, I think the safety limit might even be 1.8 to 1 seat.
So just imagine instead of having 10,221 on our Kop, the capacity would increase virtually 18K (using a 1.6 ratio).
If you put an extra 6,800 Blades under the Kop roof in the same space then the noise (atmosphere) will be on another level.

All the info I’ve read to date is that…safe standing in the UK will be applied on a 1 SS seat for 1 current seat basis.
So if our whole Kop became safe standing the capacity would still be 10.2K, so atmosphere would just slightly improve.

I’m hoping safe standing becomes normal and treated as ultra safe, eventually you would imagibe bigger areas with an eye towards capacity expansion will be accepted. So then we can finally re-do the whole Kop hopefully we can significantly increase the Kop capacity.
When we’re in the PL our capacity is too small, we need to be aiming for a minimum 36K.
Also the Kop is by far the worse stand in the ground, its well over due a rebuild modernisation/ extension.

How tall are our fans?? Only same as when they stand up in current sets surely?

I thought the same.

For the Sheff United v Chesterfield game (last game in league 1 when we were promoted) almost every ticket was sold 1 week before the match.
I just managed to get a ticket, the very back row on the John street stand.
I was stood up much of the game and I’m 6 foot.
You’d need to be well over 8 foot to even partially block the view of boxes at the back of the JS stand.

Ah, Bring back the eighties eh,
There was a reason they made grounds all seater, because in the eighty's football grounds became a battle ground for idiots who had little interested in the game and just used the teams as an excuse to get tanked up and play at being Mr Big.
OK it's a free world, but these idiots liked to do it in a packed ground and usually at the back of the Kop so they could push the supporters in front of them down the steps and on to any barrier in front of them,
As for barriers, I've seen the old tubular steel ones bent nearly double.
Next time you walk down the steps of the Kop, just imagine being pushed down it with 20 others falling on top of you.
For me you can shove you standing room where the sun don't shine especially with the drunken/drugged up idiots you just know it's going to attracts these days ........

Sigh. The clue is in the title, y'know 'SAFE' Standing. Not Lunatic Standing or Pissed-up Idiot Standing. Sheeeesh.

With respect your post is just fear mongering.
I could say “no one should ever set off for Bramall Lane, it’s too dangerous, you could be stabbed or catch covid”

You’ve obviously not seen how safe standing works, it’s safer than the current seats.
Its impossible to push anyone, there’s no space to push anyone in front or behind you
because everyone has a crash barrier directly in front of them, each SS seat is expensive to buy so it’s not cheap to implement.

No one is being forced to stand…you can even sit and rest in the safe standing seats.
However if anyone is elderly and wants to sit all match then that’s an option too.
Surely everyone should have the choice to enjoy the match how they prefer.

the safe standing is nothing like the old terracing or seat less kop
you get the same area as a proper seat and barriers on every step which renders it a waste of effort
the standing was to huddle together on december tuesday nights for a bit of warmth
singing was louder as we were closer, with safe standing we are socially distanced as much as a seat

in fact sitting offers better exercise as we stand up for attacks or goals

The number of season ticket holders on the kop get a choice of seating or standing. What ever percentage want seating say 50% the Kop then turns the remaining seats into a Safe standing area. Virtually no one chants from Row S down anyway, its only both corners that do the chanting.

I think the back half of the Kop would be the best candidate for it. Although I suspect they’d be some health and safety loopholes to jump through with SAG around access etc. If half of the Kop was standing, it might nudge the capacity to over 14,000 and under its current layout of facilities, may be too much.

If not there, maybe G&H on the south stand? But again, given it’s history and the local authority’s attitude towards segregation, it might get loads of red flags against it as being possible.

Some (including women and children) are already standing safely on the Shoreham.

The back 10 rows of the Kop stand anyway. Rip the seats out and put these new railings in.

And yes, I'm aware it isn't that simple.

Why on earth would you want to stand anyway ? If you went to the pictures and had to stand for 90 minuets you'd want half your money back !!!
It's crazy ...... 🤪
Regularly go to concerts and choose to stand. Was at Scarborough open air theatre the other week and stood for over 2 hours. I feel more involved in the ‘entertainment’. So no I wouldn’t want half my money back. I would prefer to stand at the lane but know my 83yr old dad couldn’t so I will avoid the safe standing area and wish I was there.

UTB

If the Kop was steeper then rail seating would be the way to go. Unfortunately the current shallow rake means if people in the front half consistently stood no one above about row P who is under 6ft 2 would see the Kop end goal.

Personal preferences.
Some people watch on telly, some people go to matches and sit, some want to go and stand.

Imagine half time queues!

Can’t see us being early adopters, it costs money. If we go up, and if they extend the Kop then I can see it all being standing, otherwise it’ll stay as it is

I am guessing your a young'un , i started off standing on the kop at the front as a boy watching the Blades then moved to the back of the kop as a teenager , then ended in the middle of the kop above the central gangway , (had to get there early for that position every match) .
I would stand all the time if i had the choice !
