I agree. It deffo did. But also having an abrupt end to what had basically been a run of form lasting years. Pandemic stopped the team in the tracks.
 
Its widely known, that it was all Lundstram's fault, and now hes gone, it's the midfield's fault. It's also the prince's fault, Wilder's fault, and the board's fault, but tomorrow it will be Slav's fault, and probably the player's fault too.

It can have affected us more than most and not be an excuse at the same time.
All the momentum we had was sucked out of the club and it's unlikely last season would have turned out the same with fans in throughout.
No excuse for the chronic mismanagement over the last year though.

The players are mentally and physically done, I cringe at some of the criticism I see on here, wilder was right but he shouldn't have said it in public about our team being 1st division /lower championship because they are mostly! The system was so good and they adapted so well but the lack of forward thinking was astounding , plus NONE of them are fit, we haven't had a proper pre season plus the likes of Billy, mcburnie, berge, fleck, moose etc were coming coming back from injury so their even further behind, coupled with our lousy form I can't believe people in here and the board etc thought we'd just cruise through with the same shell-shocked players

There's always an excuse with this club, they'll always find one and spread it through the fanbase as quickly as possible to hide their own shortcomings.

Most of these incidents involved one thing that United had to do..........Not lose.

Not having fans in the stadium is the biggest fucking fallacy of them all.

I'd accept it if we had an FA ban on supporters and we were bobbins at home. But we were bobbins away, bobbins in front of fans at home and bobbins away in front of fans.

The reason we have been in such shit shape is that most teams spent the lockdown an subsequent months looking at how to counter Wilderball, and we still keep wanting to play it, even with Slav trying to force the issue with 4-3-3 or whatever.

Pass it round the back and get Norwood to boot it to the wings is dead, yet someone has not told our team, many of whom are still in the squad from when we used to do it and win a bit. When we deign to forget Wilderball and try to move it about a bit inside, we look a completely different prospect, in the middle third anyway. Once we get past that we still want to get it wide and cross, and the trouble is we aint got Leon or Billy in there any more.

I am really (darkly) glad people are now agreeing that the paltry excuses for our demise are being proven wrong and the stupidity and stubbornness of Wilder coupled with the discovered weaknesses built into our renowned style of play is now being exposed. That, and the fact that he wouldn't know a decent transfer target if it kicked him square in the potatoes.

Anyone care to suggest one of his PL acquisitions which has been anything near a success for us?

YorkBlade you speak too much sense. The players have been let off big time, because last season it would have been a very toxic atmosphere and we talk about their confidence levels now.

pommpey, I think wilderball was studied and out-thought. For our team to have continued to be successful using that system, 1 of two things needed to happen, some small adaptations or investment in better players all over the pitch. what we had was neither. We stood still and stubborn and allowed others to overtake us. I’m not sure if theres a core of arrogance or ignorance at the club.

Going down on goal difference because of our own shortcomings is one thing but you can accept it if everyone is else playing by the same rules. I don't think had we landed Tevez and stayed up because of his goals the PL would have just given us a slap on the wrist.
