No, not really. Vieira is a ball winning midfielder, breaks up play, offers little going forward. Garner is more cultured, good passer, comfortable on the ball.

Suspect we’ll need to find an alternative to Vieira - a good club would have a list of targets to pursue…let’s hope there are more names on the list!

I wouldn't say so, garner is more like a Norwood type but can actually get about the pitch, playmaker. RV is more a enforcer/destroyer in midfield. Aggressive and powerful breaks up play then gives it simple.

I think bang average is closer to the truth, certainly on the Dean Hammond to Tony Currie sliding scale anyway. Agree that we shouldn’t be hoping for a successful season on the back of Slater playing 30 games though.

If we were battling for mid-table I would be more than open to giving him a go. But if we really do think we are competing to go back up, we need better imo.

I agree I just can’t think of many midfield destroyers knocking about the only other one who came to mind was choudhry at Leicester but I don’t think he’ll drop to the championship

imo slav wants a defensive midfielder in because he wants to play a back 4 hes after somebody to do the job calvin philipps does at leeds dont think slaters the answer
