Yeah but you're saying all that with the benefit of having seen these players play for 12 months or longer. Give him time to learn what their many weaknesses are.

People want to get their leg over, but don’t want to buy the dinner, drinks and listen to the boring stories. Like anything worthwhile in life, it will take time.

😬👀
Poor analogy since they are all prossies (i.e. they get paid for it)

watched the Swansae replay and what the teams is trying to do looks good, but the finishing touch just ain't there yet.

The way I see it is he took a long time to get going with Fulham, he was still 15th by the 2nd of December 2017, still got them promoted. I agree that the football has been terrible, I think that down to our midfield and hopefully if Ramsdale does leave, which seems more likely then it'll mean we can get a more creative midfielder as well a Viera who from the small highlights I've seen of him looks like 'ball-winning midfielder'. The 2 biggest factors though in my opinion are, no proper pre season. For a new manger its vital to get your tactics across and find your strongest team. He hasn't had that and so he's been doing it in the league and we are paying the price for that now. The other being, we have 8 attacking options! (Sharp, McGoldrick, Burke, McBurnie, Brewster, Mousset, Hackford, Freeman, Now depth is good, but we have too much and rightly so he has no idea which combination to go with. If add Osborn and Bogle into the equation too who usually play deeper in pitch, but finished the game at Swansea as wingers then its 10! For me being realistic I think it'll be another month at least till he finds a way to find a formation to fit his best forwards from that selection in. We can moan about it all we like but the truth is it doesn't matter who's in charge because they'd have the same problem too.

It took Wilder a full uninterrupted pre season and several competitive games to figure out the way forward. As well as the aforementioned video, experience and questions asked of existing staff. Not to forget CW also had the benefit of bringing in several new players and training with them before the season even started and even then it didn't click for the first few league games.

And Wilder knew the exiting team from watching the Blades under positive Nige.
Accepted
Bit what I can’t fathom out from the first two games is, what’s the plan?
I’m not calling for any changes, far from it, and I accept it’s going to take a good deal of time to bed in but to date I can’t see any pattern other than random.

The plan is front foot football, except it relies on players being able to look up and be positive on the ball. But our players are shot of confidence and were never the best for football intelligence in the first place.

And yet managed to master the overlapping centre back tactic

Because they were very well coached and drilled and played in an almost robotic way. That’s how Wilder got round their lack of instinctive football intelligence. I think that’s why we weren’t very good on the break, as it’s more off the cuff (and why we missed Moose, as he’s better when he’s doing things instinctively) and one of the things I noticed defensively is that we were very hard to break down when we were set and the players were in position but if there was a deflection or a miss hit pass, the opposition players tended to react a bit quicker than our players.

It should be less of a problem at this level but it’s still something Slav has to deal with. A better pre season would’ve helped.

I think they have got used to playing in a certain way, I think they like us and CW, went into most games thinking it will click,, this time.
It never did and we stuck with it rigidly, even after CW left. Seen something similar in industry, when you question a process, and get the answer " But we have always done it like this"
Yes but it's not working,,,its very, very hard to change that.

They had the intelligence to learn a system no other manager has done (consistently) that's a very unfair criticism.

It worked fine for four seasons. I’ll maintain that there were very few options to change to, as that system got the best out of the players. Heck did show though that a tweak back to 3412 improved us a bit, although that was partly to do with us and our opponents having little or nothing to play for.

I think the problem was that the old players only looked good in that system but the new signings couldn’t adapt to it. No club over performs for ever and, relative to our budget, we were over performing. Whatever “cheat” a manager finds, it always has a limited life span, ours was probably cut short by Covid and lockdown but football management is a bit like poker, you need skill to win consistently but sometimes you’re just scuppered by bad luck. Wilder had too many things go wrong at the same time. (And it’s also fair to say that from our championship promotion season up to Covid, pretty much everything went right for us).

WBA are significantly weaker than last season

We are exactly the same but have added CW first choice target for LCB.

We really should be winning this.

What an absolute helmet point of view this is

I can see what he means, they have lost possibly their best two players, but equally as accurate is the new system might suit the players they have, going into this, given our form, confidence and previous performances, right now I would take 0-0, not that I think that will be the score

Explain how they haven’t got weaker? Lost Yosulu/Diagne/Maitland Niles / Gallagher.

We didn’t have Berge(injury) / Davies last year? Our team is stronger than last year!?

We don’t need excuses now we need to be winning games.

They were spoon fed exactly what to do because they don't have a footballing brain that gives them intelligence on the pitch.

If you can paint by numbers it doesn't make you a good painter.
