Does he even have a football background?! Maybe it's his scouting network that he's put in place? I think with Van Winckel we have a guy ho clearly knows his stuff as Bielsa's assistant and I look forward to signing some decent foreign talent, hopefully better than previous forays into the Belgium talent pool with Davy Gysbrects and the the one and only Axel Smeets, who I recall missed an open goal v Walsall!?
It seems he’s never played but he’s worked in recruitment for Liverpool and wolves before getting the top job at Huddersfield. Huddersfield’s collapse following his exit suggests that whatever the system is that he builds it doesn’t continue to function once he’s gone.
I’m not sure what uniteds system regarding recruitment will be until the new gaffer is in place and how involved they’ll be in the process.

With so many experts already at the club ... RIP why bother with another manager when the Prince has his Football Manager and FIFA expertise

Got a few playstation managers on here that'll do a job in the club set up. On football manager I took Torquay United from the Vanorama national League to the champions league in 6 seasons. Stuff like that doesn't go unnoticed.

I see SJ odds have shortened ever so slightly to 1/3 while all the others have lengthened. If you remove Hecks (U23's) and Blessin (work permit required) then the next realistic target according to the bookies is Clement at 10/1 who's odds are the only one not to change. Who ever it is, hopefully we find out by the end of the week. We need some clarity before its too late.

Odds are changing and stories like this are starting to appear - its today isnt it!?!

if jokanovic has come in to 1/3 i would say its pretty much nailed on

I'll start believing SJ is in the building when he's basically unbackable due to suspended betting

As Bob says. All the odds tell you is that there's more money down. However, it doesn't mean yet he has the job. I have seen odds much shorter than that suggesting a particular manager has got the job, but it turned out to be wrong

Currently based in England? 🤔

Or loads of people have been piling on after enjoying the occasion yesterday.
maybe bob but i think with those odds it has to be jokanovic and apart from clement cant see anybody else that would interest me and 1/3 opposed to 10/1 sounds good enough for me know you wont be ecstatic if it is sj though

So there have been no successful managerial appointments (in this country alone) at the beginning of a summer break?! I'm guessing you'll find hundreds of examples, if you give it any thought or research.

"Past evidence" you say... Like under different owners with different methods, in different eras? Not relevant is it.

Making predictions (forecasts) with no real knowledge and REGARDLESS of whoever the manager is... Okey dokey😂

Just calm down mate. Try and get some down time. Reassess your concerns in a month.

Yes there has, when allowed to spend the amount of money needed to get it going.
The point you seem to fail to grasp is that we won’t be hitting the ground running, and that’s not because our manager has left at the end of the season and we’ve had no choice, we have been like this for almost the last third of the season. And it’s a chance missed to properly prepare.

Who’s doing the retained/released?
Who’s putting the list of targets together?
What’s the style of play we are aiming for?
Will the new manager get the best from players here in contract or will some need to be moved on?
A small list of the many issues we are blindly walking into, when this should have been resolved weeks ago. And all brought on ourselves again.

I stick to my prediction, and will sit back again and look at the loons on here and in the stands who will be hammering the players, the manager, recruitment teams when the real cause of the problem is some abysmal management of the club at board level which has led to us being where we are now, and where we will be in 3 months time. Because there’s one thing we can be sure of, we won’t be spending big money to get promoted, we will be carrying on with the same ways that led to missing out on targets last summer and eventually leading to the manager best qualified to get us back up walking away.
But it’s ok...they talk a good game and the loons believe every word so it will of course be someone else’s fault.

I'm not going to sit here and applaud PA for the way things are run, however I'll keep in mind that this is the first managerial change under his sole ownership, he bought into a league one club that by some miracle (the manager at the time) found itself in the top league in the world, woefully under prepared, just as his partner pulled the buy out trigger.

It's been a bit of a baptism of fire for PA, and a lot of the fans are against him. Personally I can't get too fierce about the way the club's run, it's not my trainset and I'll still be supporting it tomorrow regardless of the decisions made.

Maybe that makes me part of the problem, but I have far more important things to pump my emotions into.

A core of a team that only knew success, that 12months ago were CL possiblities. With a current, U23 title winning team as its future and a unique innovative approach to the game. That together with the potential to create your own success via the championship, a much weaker league, we should be an attractive proposition to most management teams.
The negotiation advantages are uniquely with us.

agree some of our fans who are fearing the worst with the current squad are forgetting that the championship is a poor league and most of the current squad will be comfortable playing in it

I think the core of the squad for The Championship is solid, top 6 certainly, the issue is the same as it was last summer in that the midfield needs an overhaul for the next push. It's definitely a tweak or a correction rather than rip it up and start again job. The senior guys who got us up last time, Bash, Egan, JoC, Baldock, Stevens, Fleck, Norwood, Billy, Dids are perfect for bringing through the next iteration if that's what they want to do. Some may go, some may have to, but to throw away all that experience just because they fell short at PL level would be daft. We have the youngsters, who personally I think area good couple of seasons away from making a real impression. but we have the base to bring them and other young players through within the successful structure we had in place.

yeah big summer for us and as you say midfield recruitment is going to be key think a couple of centre backs will be needed if as i expect egan will be sold probably 1 more striker but 3 more needed for midfield imo and if we get these areas right dont see any reason why we cant be top 6 at least

Oh I think we need to bring in 6-7 new faces at least, but I also expect 5-6 to go out. We'll need to replace Lunny, Bryan, Jags, and that's before we get onto those that may get offers, Berge, Egan, Baldock, but those brought it need to be able to make that step up. We really should be looking to use the loan market given our much higher wage bill to obtain quality that we couldn't afford to buy.

When you put it like that Bob, you've named 9 outfielders there. Assuming Rammers stays, that's 10 of the XI - and it's probably a damning indictment of the last 2 years that that's not too far off our best team!

If you're planning to replace those outfielders by the time we're next in the Prem (possibly excluding JOC and Egan, if they're both still around), that means approx 2/3 replacements per window - which doesn't sound too unrealistic.

Obviously there's more too it than that, and we need to build our 25 (a lot of the backup players will move on this summer), but there's certainly reasons for optimism.

im sure the loan market will be used by lots of teams this summer especially if sj comes in loans with a view to buy would be good for us

So a supposedly list of 5 has now become 6 !

They did say that once SJ had been approached, and in their eyes, presumably as an addition to the original number of 5. Who knows though! What I find interesting is that the article says that the candidates have been contacted and that a decision is imminent. I can't see Cooper and Appleton having had those intense talks given they're both involved with other clubs and the play offs. Saying that, if there's no announcement this week then the longer it goes the more I think that Appleton or Cooper are involved. The play off games are this weekend of course.

Yes , possibly . I can’t see it being Appleton or Cooper myself . Maybe like another poster said , it is someone that has not been linked in the media . If reports are correct then we will find out in the next few days .

I’m inclined to believe what Glyn Hodges left foot has been saying regarding SJ . Here’s to an intriguing time ahead !

Let's be honest, GHLF has really laid his credibility on the line with such a specific and well-sourced rumour. If it comes true, there's a good chance he is actually properly ITK. If not, he's just another one of those sad-act attention-seekers who for some reason covets the adulation of a load of anonymous posters on an internet forum.

Guess the 6 are Jokanovic, Blessin, Clement, Appleton, Heckingbottom and the French geezer who's name was doing the rounds a couple of weeks ago.

Personal theory is SJ might be stalling (waiting on a better offer/negotiating a better deal) and the club might be ready to move on but can't do anything til after the play offs to land Appleton. Probably after getting the knockback with the Blessin work permit situation they decided to avoid going down that road. Even if Clement, for example, was able to get a work permit the players he would be wanting to bring in might struggle.

They should have identified the one they want out of that list weeks ago and employed him last weekend. The fact managers are waiting to hear back from us is ridiculous.
Ramsdale / McGoldrick have said it over the past couple of weeks this needs to be sorted ASAP.
