As we're heavily in debt, with a wagebill that massively dwarfs our income, how about some suggestions from everyone who doesn't like the idea of player sales as to how we fund the losses. Where do we get the money from?

My suggestion is that it's that it's the complete failure to grasp that you have to pay for what you buy that has brought about our demise. More of the same doesn't sound quite right to me.

If we can't half our wage bill and vastly improve our squad, I'll be gob smacked. But that can only happen with player sales.

Who is this Simon you're so obsessed about? You're deluded whoever it is. Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you

But why should we, the supporters, be expected to come up with solutions. We didn't sanction the signing of a bunch of dead beats. It was the bright, highly paid sods 'in charge'.

And we can (probably) accept the moving on of the high earners. What Adams is basically saying is that our next fire sale will probably include the youngsters. Where will that leave us? And will we again be expected to come up with answers to the next debacle?

its interesting to speculate that the sales of the kyles and killa for say 15 million will now be wiped out by the time in division three?.. it is the short termism that keeps killing us off.. rule 1 for next year kev.. unless someone offers you silly money (like ronaldo to real madrid) do not ever sell your best players. 10 million pounds seems idiot money for two potential international standard full backs aged 20ish.. spurs could get 10 million for walker tomorrow on his own.. even blackpool can see this.. if charlie adam had played for us he'd be gone
the earlier post about someone walking round the youth team dressing room with a price list made me chuckle.. but only because i could see it happening in my head

exactly. if we sell young players we havent even begun to build a team around, how we be looking at rebuilding around youth - who we going to play the bloody junior blades u-12s? i'm starting to think the concept of 'adams blooding youth to check them out for next season' was more a case of pick the best two or three from the youth cup squad and put them in a shop window for a few games.
i was at the agm a few years ago when mccabe stated the academy, then in its prime, was to develop and sell young talent to keep the club afloat, so none of this surprises me... what does infuriate me is the fact that super-businessman mccabe who told every one we were battening down the hatchesand making sure the club would be financially stable in the times of recession, has, as well as buying off the hotel forsyth manage and scarborough built, for £1, has royally screwed up the football side over the last few seasons. would we have been better off with trevor birch or james beattie? would kyle walker at RB for another season have been so much better than nyron nosworthy (who inexplicably was allowed to come back for another season!!!)? we've had lies about the year long loans of walker and bartley, lies that we wouldnt go down the loan route this season. why would anyone believe there is a reason other than to be pessimistic. the mccabes have basically said, we put money in - we wont anymore and we will be making massive cuts so how the hell are we going to put a team out next season if anyone on 'silly' money (monies negotiated and sanctioned by mccabe) is on the way out, we wont be signing loan players and the best of the kids - who are literally little more than kids - will be off to the first derisory pile of monies offered?

mccabe you should hang your head in shame.

The vast majority of successful clubs owe much of their success to the fact that they have owners who are willing to show some ambition and back the club financially. McCabe goes on about the £6m spent on loans but ignores the Tevez £20m and the millions we go for the 2 Kyles and the sale of all our other good players in recent seasons.

If the McCabe family won't back the club financially then what are they contributing to the club? Kevin McCabe can't even be arsed to communicate with the fans anymore.

We need a fresh start - and that means new owners and a new board. If McCabe did the honourable thing and wrote off the debts his bad decisions have contributed to, I'm sure we would find a more committed and ambitious owner.

In a similar way, many of us ignore the ratio of ticket income to wage bill.

I agree to a point. But to a degree, we have been backed. I think the point is lost. It's not lack of investment (see our accounts, wage bill, huge debts) it's what we've spent the money on that was wrong.

Now we are where we are - and we need to get the debt under control. If people think that this can be done without players sales and huge cuts to the wage bill then they are really living in cuckoo land. And any Chairman / owner would be the same 0 given where we're at.

McCabe has fucked us up - make no mistake. None of that gets us out of the current mess. But as I've suggested elsewhere, we're fortunate that there are many clubs with wage bills a fraction of ours with far better squads. That's where relegation, and contract clauses, offer an opportunity.

There's always the money tree

If we had one, you could bet McCabe would sell it :D

Going on the Cahflow shortfall forecast at the turn of the year (£5 million) the income through the Season Ticket Renewals just completed wont cover that.

I would imagine those staring at the income due to trickle in for next season are scratching their heads in disbelief.

Rather than no player sales, I can see miniscule amounts comming in for any player sold, just to keep the Club running.

Any youngster who can be sold to keep the Club running will be gone.

Who knows where we would have been hadn't McCabe seen all this coming.
Gotta feel sorry for all those clubs who just don't understand football finance like King Kev.

So we take it you've had a word?

I have with Trevor Birch.....told him what I thought. Hic. (he's talked to me since and didn't take offence)

It's all very twee talking on a forum but have you had a word? If not why not?

And i've been called a clapper ffs!

The club relied on loans as it refused to make permanent signings leaving a very small squad wide open to injuries.
You get what you pay for.

Laughable, just laughable. Your quoting of lenners says it all really.

The problem was the injuries. We'd sign someone, they'd get injured so we'd have to sign someone else <repeat endlessly>. The £6m wasn't necessarily because the players were all expensive, just that we got so many of them. Line them all up and it would have been like a scene from Braveheart but without the kilts.

not really youre just a major flag waver for the mccabes on all fronts, so please dont patronise me with 'says it all' comments. this isnt the playground

i have it on good authority (yeah that one but he's never wrong .. he lives next door to someone) that the squad was until recently split in two.. permanents and loanees and there was considerable tension between the two

I've heard from a friend with a reliable source that Ched is off to norwich, Monty is off to Leeds and we are signing piggy Madine from the blunts? Only passing on what I've been told!
