I used to be a secret lemonade drinker.

As a kid I remember watching someone like Petrochelli always drinking ‘root beer’ and wondering why we didn’t have it here. Apparently it’s Dandelion and Burdoch, which my grandad would always have a bottle of, from the “pop man”.
That was the Saturday treat in our house. Fish and chips and pop. The dray wagon delivered, Dandelion and Burdock for me and Tizer for my brother - Guinness for my dad. I hadn’t drunk any for about 45 years and was telling my sons how lovely it was. I came across a bottle so bought it and presented it as if it was a bottle of Chateau Petrus - sodding disgusting stuff so another childhood rose tinted memory was shattered 😩

I vaguely remember American Cream Soda. I didn’t dislike it but it was a bit weird. Fuck knows what it was made out of, probably chemicals that are now banned. Same with D&B I suppose, it certainly wasn’t made from dandelions and burdoch.

It’s odd how we’ve gone back to deliveries, there used to be all sorts when I was a kid; fruit man, fish man, bread man ...

You’re right - people tend to think of home deliveries as a relatively new concept when in fact , it was far more common as far back as 70 years ago than it is now .

In addition to the ones you mention I can add tea , coffee and biscuits - books , comics and sweets and most importantly meat .

This was delivered by the ‘butcher’s boy’ who was typically about 19 and drove a Morris Minor van at hair raising speeds . I was friendly with two of these as a young man and both told me it was the best job in the world , since they got to ‘deliver the meat’ in more ways than one to any number of frustrated housewives . :)

Remember all those drinks. Anybody out there know what Grape Knee High is, as drunk by Radar on MASH. Tried to find out but came up empty. As well as all those home deliveries you also had the rent man and Tick man doing home calls, but not accompanied by " The boys" like today, allegedly.

Tried it once. It gave me hot lips.

I'm genuinely surprised with the amount of thick racists we have as fans. They think they disguise it but it's just fucking blatant. It's happening on most threads about Wilder and its shaming on the club to see.
He we go again throwing the racist card.Whats racist about an opinion

If it’s an opinion that believes somebody is inferior or not trustworthy based on their race, that’s racist.

Happy to help.

A bit off topic here Bush...
Have you been reading some old Flashing Blades?
I wrote a piece in FB 20 odd years ago with exactly the same title as your strapline 🤔

Sorry, I can’t remember reading it much past the Kendall days tbh. I grew up in the 70s and remembered the advert, hence using the line.

Read the thread tell which parts are racist
I don't really want to start making accusations because the OP might not have meant it this way, but "And I personally don’t like my club being owned by someone from a morally bankrupt country like Saudi Arabia." is running pretty close to the line. Disregarding everyone simply because of where they were born I'm sure someone will object xenophobia rather than racism but I think that's a word game for the most part.

In fairness to the OP, I think there's a difference between being a Saudi and being a Saudi Prince who held a government position at one time, and maybe that's what he was getting at, but as phrased it's a bit sketchy, yeah.

It was around that time I think (just after obviously, in Spackmans tenure) . In response to the same day sale of Deano and Fjortoft, when people vented their anger in fanzines and not the Internet 😃

It was a good read, I used to really look forward to getting the latest copy. Then I moved down south and never thought to try and get it mail order so I just stopped, unless I found it for sale outside the Lane on my journeys up. Over time I just stopped buying it, possibly because we were a bit crap between Spackman and Warnock.
