Are you joking? We've had relegation written all over us from day one. A truly dire season, comprising of some major fuck ups on the managerial front, and a disastrous foray into the loan market as opposed to signing some permanent deals made up of hungry players, who could at least do the basics.
The board set the tone by panicking and booting Blackwell out, the appointment of Speed was laughable, and it was obvious that the only reason Adams got the job was due to the Warnock effect i.e. he may be a wank manager but he's local and he could try to instil some local pride. Unfortunately, having a squad based on mercenary footballers that was never going to happen.
Adams has contributed, but no way is he solely responsible for the decline of this club, that started at Wembley when Burnley beat us.
Not at all. Very few predicted we would go dow at the start of the season (though may are claiming to have done now). I remember a tiny minority thinking the writing was on the wall and talk of relegation was not taken seriously until January time. Even then it was laughed off. Mainly because we are better than Coventry, Palace, Scunny, Preston and Bristol. Clearly not, but so many thought.
I agree with all of your second paragraph.
As for the third paragraph, well see Micalijos comments below. I am not blaming Adams solely for this. The majority of the blame lies with the board. Blackwell deserves lot of blame for dismantling the squad. What I am saying is that Adams has had ample opportunity to keep us up. He inherited a team that was
not doomed. We were fifht bottom. He signed players and has had half a season and 3 months to make a fight of keeping us in the league. It has been a catastrophy. The bookies odds for us to go down when he tok over were long (about 12/1) and o we are certainties and I doubt they are taing bets.
Come one Hozza lad, football management aint this impoxssible job that Alehouse sympathisers are making it out to be. Plenty of managers get better results than t'old Micky have in equally difficult circumstances. I'm not talking about a great march into top half, just a couple more wins to give us at least a fighting chance of staying up. That was not too much to ask for, inspite of the crap he inherited and the disgrace of Blackwell's summer squad building.
Top stuff Mic.
Comments like Hungry Horaces (we were doomed from day one) are pissing me off. Nobody said anything at the start of the season, yet now we are down it is all 'I told you so' What bollocks. Defending Adams because we were 'doomed from day one'. One or two mentioned tht we were in trouble from the start (and they are excempt from this) but the people xomong out of the woodwork to say I told you so is annoying and boring. Where ere you all in September, when KB was sacked, saying we'll go down?? Now it is eas to say, I knew all along.
We have not been doomed frol day one. A shocking decision from the board put us up against it, but a terrible performance by Adams has made it so. There are loads of managers that would have kptus up from the position Adams inherited us in. It has been a shcoking, awful run from him. He has to take some share of the lame for us getting relegated. Yes we were on the slide, yes Blackwell fuckedup a good team, yes Adams inherited a poor team but fucking hell the way we have rolled over like a big, fat, spoilt, down syndrome labrador looking for its fat belly to be tickled has been pathetic. 5th bottom to bottom in months and 2 wins in 17 says it all.
