Thanks for the memories Chris Wilder, Hillsborough will live with me forever.

However this season just gives me the sad feeling he built a warship out of paper mache.

Also if he ever comes back to the Lane as an opponent manager, I hope we absolutely paste him.

Does that not make it more impressive that he got the paper mache to 9th place last year?

I haven’t seen a single comment from wilders mates not sure where this stuff takes place but I’ve seen the Prince giving his side on TV and in the press. Not exactly a level playing
Plenty of comments have been made on Twitter by Wilder's mates( in particular one of them) especially before he left. Wilder often gave 'his side' in interviews

What I expected. Class.

No petty point scoring bollocks like the Prince’s interview.

A man who well and truly deserves to hold his head up high and reflect on what was an absolutely grand journey he led us through. Nothing but respect.
To be fair, CW did all that petty stuff while he was still employed

I’m still a big fan of Wilder and truly grateful for where he dragged us from and then the unthinkable heights he led us too in such a short space of time.

But....i think for people to say look at the class he is showing now in that statement and no petty point scoring etc are completely ignoring the fact that he already had a good 6 months head start on that front as he’s been doing exactly that in pre and post match interviews for the majority of the season with the constant digs at the board. & @Carlton Blade
The thread is about Wilder’s statement. You can call it “ignoring” what’s been said by either when he was employed at the club, but he’s gone now and it’s irrelevant. It’s a fact that the Prince went out of his way to drag whatever kind of spat they had to Sky. Wilder on the other hand isn’t fussed about dragging it out. One has dealt with the parting with much, much more class.

Pretty bland statement for me. Thanks the right people, wishes the club well and reflects on some great times. Ignores the Princes comments or indeed the mess we now find ourselves in. He’s moved on.

The past was great , the present and the future don’t look so wonderful right now and he is at length to say he unified the support. Read this thread and I don’t think we are unified and that is a legacy that also sits with Chris.

He cannot have it all one way for me.

Fantastic achievements and memorable days that I will always thank him for, but I won’t simply forget the mess he now leaves us with.

I wish him all the best but I am more interested in our current situation and how we can go again and quickly.

Thank you Chris for the great times in the last 4 years. Your statement is honest and poignant, you are a true blade.

Would the people on this thread please consider this, Chris was under server pressure at the end and had some personal issues to deal with. The mental health side of any job should not lead to a person being broken, sometimes the best option is to leave that job.

I hope you can recharge your batteries and visit Bramall Lane along with all other supporters soon. Good Luck in you future.

100%. Let's move on...

Neither entity have been classless. Now, what about our club's future...?

What a superb statement. Word perfect and strikes the absolute right tone. Top man, top manager. It went to shit and off the boil with us, but most things that good do. See you in the dugout gaffer.

Statement was pretty meh to me, said exactly what you would expect him to, thanked the people you would expect him to but didn't offer any explanation as to why he left....probably feels he doesn't owe anyone an explanation.

Fairly obvious if he has read social media in the last 2 weeks that the vitriol towards the board has waned considerably after the Prince's interview and that a number of supporters were starting to question CW's status as "one of our own" so release a romantic statement about how much he loves the club/players/fans and hey presto, he's not such a bad old fruit after all........

Personal heart felt words probably written under guidance from the LMA. He is bound by NDA clauses that prevent comments affecting the Clubs commercial confidentiality and reputation. He would be unable to refer to the actual circumstances of him leaving even if he wanted to.

I suspect he has been advised there is nothing in the Princes interview that contravenes the NDA and it is best to draw a line under the matter, not least for his own peace of mind. His statement reflects that.

CW gave us four great years my personal favourites being the bouncing day result and the Holy Trinity of Coutts, Fleck and Duffy. I fear it started to go wrong with his dismissal of Duffy as he tried to juggle the management of the team with growing off field demands required of an EPL Club. In simple terms he was spinning too many plates. Bettis should have encouraged him to delegate more. The best time to improve is when you are at your peak yet everyone got carried away with our EPL start and failed to recognise the pressures that were being placed on CW. Everyone including we the supporters.

Lockdown merely accelerated the inevitable as CW struggled with his first real signs of adversity. It was concerning to see the 360 degree shift in his personality as it seems everyone at the Club on and off it were wanting a daily piece of him. CW's demise was no doubt in part due to his own stubborn approach but the Club are equally at fault. I struggle to understand how one person was allowed to take on so much without being managed from above. Bettis was CW's on site Line Manager, was he managing or letting his friendship affect his judgement?

Questions have to be asked as to how the Club got themselves into a situation where the Team Manager was negotiating through the LMA and local press when he was still an employee. The structure IMO was at fault and the failure to have a Derek Dooley type experienced football man on the Board managing CW contributed to the messy conclusion that resulted. The Club need to learn lessons from this.

It is pleasing to see CW's statement wish the owners well. I hope this draws a line under the matter and it encourages those close to CW to get back to supporting the Club and not the man. Equally I hope CW after his 6 month sabbatical gets back into the game and begins to enjoy life again. Time for everyone to move on.

Why is he bound by an NDA ?

Thanks for all those magnificent memories Chris. I hope I'm wrong, but I think it'll be lean pickings for some time for us Blades.

To those few who are criticising, to quote Knowsnowt, "GTF"!
Sadly you my well be right, we can live in hope

Nice words to reflect on his time here although it feels a little bit like that statement been heavily vetted by the LMA's legal and PR departments before it was released.

Thanks for the memories, for getting us out the shit and getting us somewhere we'd never expect to be but a statement along the lines of "performances and results this season haven't been what we've come to expect over the past 4 years and despite the efforts of myself, the staff and the team, we're sorry that we couldn't emulate the success we've become accustomed to" would have been nice.

I don’t really get what you’re trying to get at. I’m comparing the way Wilder and PA have dealt with parting ways.
You accused PA of petty point scoring where it can be argued that CW was doing this whilst he was still employed by the club as his mates were as well. PA was responding to comments made

Didn't love us enough to finish what he started. He should have put up with the owners until the end of the season then resigned.

Fuck him and his lapdog called Wit.
Is that really necessary the bloke gave us four great years as manager of Sheffield United. I for one don't have any ill feelings on Chris Wilder huge disappointment yes, I even felt sorry for him as he stuttered through post match interviews, clear to see he was mentally shot to pieces. Sorry to see him slink out of the back door and want £4m for the privilege I expected much better. We move on good luck to Chris and perhaps now some can stop with the abuse directed at our owner who like it or not his doing his best even if he doesn't have an unlimited amount of cash to throw at SUFC.

btw I agree with the sentiment for his lapdog Wit.
