Apologies for such a downbeat post after what has happened in the last week or so. Culture Secretary has said that they will be looking at introducing COVID certification, one way systems and masks for sporting events.

Literally don't know what to say, that is not football.

If wearing a mask gets me back into the ground I'll accept it.
Derek I can no longer go as you know but if wearing a mask was a small price to pay for watching the Blades, I'd wear one and TBH I struggle breathing wearing a mask as it is now but come on it's United. Let's face it mask wearing in normal life is not going to go away soon, so it's a norm anyhow.

I took what he said to mean for the sporting events taking place in May and June.

After June all restrictions are supposed to be lifted aren't that?
I think they've already said when things are lifted, mask wearing will continue.

All for it if it means I don't have to countenance the hideous visages and death breath of fellow Bla

Well it is, with restrictions. If you go shopping do you moan that "it's not shopping" due to restrictions? Get a grip pal, you either do what's needed or don't go, it's really that simple

No, I agree, it is football and it is infinitely better than watching on a TV screen. Just disappointed I guess as I thought all restrictions were lifted on 21st June. Maybe that's naivety on my part though.

A lot of people have to be masked all day at work which must be awful. Wearing it on the underground is unpleasant as it's so stuffy anyway but outside at a match is no bloody bother.

Who’s betting that we will see ‘protest masks’ against the prince in the coming season?

Pretty much everyone who is going to get vaccinated, will have by the start of next season. so there is no need for these measures. Plus football is an outdoors sport - which makes it even safer. When are people going to turn around and say, enough is enough, we are not doing this anymore. The government will keep pushing draconian measures for as long as we (the people) let them do it.

From what I understand if everything goes to plan, all restrictions on movement will be lifted on the 21st June. As I understood it, face masks will still be required, I'm not sure if social distancing is part of that.. I think they expect COVID to be still around at this point, but if enough people are vaccinated then it shouldn't be as bad as we've seen the past year. I keep seeing the wording ghost/silent covid being banded around, people may still catch it but the effects will hopefully be minimal thanks for the vaccination rollout.

Where has this been said? Heard vaccine passports but full with zero social distancing?

I interpreted it as June 21st as being the target for full on back to normal as in no social distancing or masks required. Which is the main reason I couldn’t envisage that actually happening or maybe it’s just we’ve been under restrictions for so long I’m starting to forget what it’s like.

Be interesting to see if people continue to wear masks following the easing of restrictions. It’s something that has happened in some other countries even before the virus. I, for one, can’t wait to not wear them ever again.
