Because who ever he is he's got one hell of an act to fellow on and off the pitch, and he will have to hit the ground running with a depressed dressing room full of players he didn't choose.
The only way he can hope to start next season with any chance of success is to sell off our best players and bring in players of his own,
And they had better be one's who can do the job from day one because we have been well and truly spoiled over the previous to this one 4 seasons.....
So best of luck pal but I don't think much of your chances ...

Out after four games if he doesn't win one - like we did with that joker Wilder after the Millwall debacle

I will be back in the mode of 'it only costs money to sack managers and we'll probably replace him with another shit one so don't bother sacking him'. I said that with Adkins and we got Wilder, so you never know.

Ooh I'd say about a month, then when it all goes tits up I can say "Well I wanted him gone after 4 games" as if I was some sort of fucking visionary. That's how it works round here.

I've ordered a Pitchfork from Amazon already before the fucking rest of you get on it

Or maybe the owner would like to sell some of the high maintenance one before he takes over.
Just so he can then buy his own choices naturally. ....

If it’s Howe or someone else, I don’t understand why you wouldn’t appoint someone now so they can assess the squad. They would have a free hit for the remainder of the season and could start the process of changing our tactical approach.
Or you appoint his assistant to do that so he can start with a clean slate and not get the shit on his shoes that the next ten defeats will create. There’s no free hit here. It’s like saying “I wouldn’t mind losing if we were attacking and lost 3-4”. People say it but in reality, they don’t mean it. Same with a new manager, if he comes in and loses five in a row, people start to get concerned.

There may be contractual reasons too, regarding compensation payments from the last job which means he’d lose a lot of cash if he started now, on what would presumably be a championship salary.

New manager gets a season to get us challenging and another year to get us up. That’s the cutthroat nature of being a parachute side.

For me, I am not sure it’s going to be about wins after x amount of games. It will be how much will he be a yes man for the board and how much does buy in to being the biggest bladey blade ever

Perhaps Howe (or someone else) thinks that it would better, psychologically, for the players to have a fresh start and clean slate in the summer. That makes sense to me. Supposing it were true, Howe (or someone else) could still keep a distanced eye on things and could even have one of his close colleagues join the squad for some hands-on experience with the players, reporting back on characters, attitudes etc., ready for some swift decisions in June.

What happens if someone further up the food chain offers him a job in the meantime? 😉

If it’s the right appointment, get it done now. If it’s a quality appointment in any walk of life, you can’t relax until they are sat at their desk.

The objectives are pretty clear:

1. Develop new playing system
2. List of acquisition proposals
3. List of potential jettisons
4. Contract strategy for remaining players
5. Strong top six position by end of 2021
6. Minimum: win Play Off Final

Doing so well until you suggested we win a Playoff Final. Fantastical impossibility at best......

I don't think its as cut and dried as having x amount of points or y amount of wins by a given date. Its usually about 10 games that you can get a feel of how things are going to go.

If we're scraping around the bottom then its time to potentially think about sorting things out but being realistic, being at least within touching distance of the play offs would be a decent place to be. It'd be different if we were going down with a decent, half confident team but we're not, there are some decks to be cleared and plenty of dead wood to be shipped out - Lundstram, Rodwell, Robinson, Moore, Ampadu will go back, Jags, potentially Bryan, Sharp and Didzy are at the back end, I'd ship Stevens out based on this season, Mousset's never fit, Lowe looks out of his depth, Berge may well go, Norwood's a good Championship player but is another on the downgrade.

Norwich shipped goals for fun in the Championship when they went up, just happened that they could outscore the opposition so knew where their downfall would be in the Premier League and so it proved. This time round they've got the best defence in the Championship alongside Watford and are running away with it so have fixed their weak spot.

We need to fix ours which is scoring goals, it shouldn't be game over at 1-0 but we have no answer whatsoever at the moment. To be honest, a fresh set of eyes, whoever that may be, might not hurt rather than Wilder still being here persisting with systems and players that are no good and not being able to see the woods for the trees.

Don't specify a contract length, just pay the manager for each game at a time

Then come on here to see our decision on whether he gets the gig next week or not

We can call it Uber Manager

Good job you're not a military type, then Pommpers ;)

Of that list only 5 and 6 are objectives :D

Heard he can’t take a role for 12 months due to his compo package, if correct joins the dots with Tindall coming in......

As for the OP- an alternative view would be he has to pick the best players, not his favourites. we need to have an in-game plan B & even C. He needs to be able to recruit stronger than he already has, especially when spending above £6m. To not openly slag off the board in pressers,

On a serious note, rather than be looking at the fail points, we need to support and accept there will be bumps on the road

I'll let you know when the current apathy wears off.
Whoever it is is on to a hiding to nothing, in my view.

We don't know what squad they will be left with
We don't know if they will be able to recruit the players they would need to implement a different style.
I'm pretty sure that the style will change.
JO'C will be gone after the January transfer window, if he can sustain some game time.

As I don't have access to finance details or timelines yet, nor skillsets, it is difficult to make them SMART

Gimme a while and I'll do that :)

The next guy will fail. There's no doubt in my mind. He's absolutely on a hiding to nothing.

So I wouldn't even pay him much attention. He's a dead man walking.
....The board is delighted to announce the return of Mr Chris Wilder! 😂

WARNING: this is a terrible attempt at humour and is not true. Please do not have a meltdown.
