Drink drive cases are summary offences and are heard in Magistrates Court. Magistrates can only give a maximum of 6 months in prison for custodial sentences.

Dangerous drive cases are either way offences and can be heard in Magistrates Court or Crown Court. If it goes to Crown then he could get a custodial sentence, but unlikely as no one was killed or seriously injured, so there are no aggravating factors. He could get a suspended sentence.

Courts see dangerous driving as a much more serious offence. Can go to the Crown Court for trial and/or sentence which a drink drive alone cannot. Fail to stop is a serious aggravating factor. If he pleads not guilty and gets found guilty 3 to 9 months likely. A plea reduces but doesn’t eliminate the risk.
