Leicester beat PNE (4-3 aet) last night to become our hosts for the 1/4 final.

Should we overcome The Foxes we have a two legged semi against either Villa or Boro thus avoiding the "big boys" as Liverpool/Man U/Chelsea are all still left on the other half of the draw.

Cheers Grecian. Sounds like we have a decent chance to get through

I'd class Boro as a big boy at this level. Their record of producing players is pretty intimidating.

Doesn't work like that with the youth games. It all depends what comes through the age group for a club in that particular season. Southend went quite far and Huddersfield lost 4-0 at home to Darlington for example.

Middlesbrough have a brilliant youth setup.

The Blades Youth team's (U-18) achievements is already highly commendable as some still qualify to play for the U-16s and U-17s. The younger ones are the brighter prospects so it may still take the season after next to see the benefits (assuming we don't sell first)

Given our reputation, I would suggest that all the Jewels will have been sold off cheaply by the time they get to the level needed to challenge for the first team.

I never said our achievements weren't great. I just wanted to warn people against thinking we have an easy tie because it's 'only Middlesbrough', when in fact it couldn't be further from the truth.

Is there an U17s side? I thought it went from U16 to U18? The U16s also seem to lose pretty much every week too.

Last time we were in the FA Youth Cup semis was in 1973. We lost to Bristol City over two legs

Just a thought but wouldnt it send a message if everyone boycotted the first team match before and then 12,000 Blades turn up for the Youth Cup game? Probably not a message anyone would listen to mind you.

What a fantastic idea!!!

I'm listening. I am a season ticket holder who watched the Blades in the fourth division and thought it fantastic - but never again should it be repaeted.

BOYCOTT THE TREES MATCH and all go to Leicester. Superb

Silent, did any of that side make it through to first team action?

From memory, Kenworthy and Edwards would have been too young, Faulkner and Bradford too old?

Not sure if Faulkner was too old. I think Steve Ludlam was in that side and am not sure about Steve Conroy. We signed David Bradford from Blackburn and he was 21 when we signed him. I will try to find out more about that side

Anyone think that whilst the Academy are in the FA Cup, players like Slew won't be coming near the first team?

I don't think that will enter anyone's head to be honest. Winning the FA Youth Cup would be nice but wouldn't even register with most Blades, however, relegation to the third tier would be a disaster and if Slew could help the first team in any way (in Adams view of course), I'm sure he'd get the call.

I would be seriously shocked to see anyone from that youth team shoved into the first team. The game they play and the game the first team try to play is as different as the 1970 Brazil WC team and Wimbledon 80-85.

Simple solution then...

....Get some just for men slapped on Monty's greying hair, paint a few spots on Nyron Nosworthy and have a word with the bloke in the Sportsman reference some 'recycled' passports and then swap the two teams in their entirity.

Managed to find the team for the 1st leg of the semi that ended in a 2-2 draw

1. Steve Conroy
2. ? Allen
3. Steve Ludlam
4. Lea Brookes
5. Steve Faulkner
6. ? Hicken
7. Martin Conroy
8. Brent Marsh
9. Gary France
10. Peter Ward
11. Nigel Williams
sub ? Pymm

Steve Faulkner was pushed up front for the last 10 minutes and scored the late equaliser. He made his debut in the 1st team in the 2-1 win at Old Trafford (Bobby Charlton's last home game for Man U) a month later and was at fault for his underhit back pass for Brian Kidd to give Man U the lead. Bill Dearden and Keith Eddy got our goals. Faulkner made 15 1st team apps for us before moving to York where he made 90 apps

Steve Ludlam made his 1st team debut in the 1975-76 season and then making 27 apps scoring a goal in the 1-1 draw at Southampton (shown on MOTD) before moving to Carlisle (96 apps) and then Chester (102 apps)

Steve Conroy played over 100 games for us in goal and it was a surprise when Harry Haslam decided that Conroy replaced Jim Brown for the 1978-79 season. He was in the reserves when we signed Keith Waugh before moving to Rotherham and Rochdale.

Gary France played two 1st team games for us in 1974 and I dont know where he went to afterwards

Nigel Williams was supposed to be the one for the future as he was clever and tricky winger but he had off field problems which was his downfall. About 10 years ago he went to court for cruelty to dogs

Blades 1 - 0 up! Whitehouse puts away Harriots blocked shot

---------- Post added at 07:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:27 PM ----------

Blades 2 - 0 up at Leicester. Slew is brought down on the break and Whitehouse slots the penalty home!

Foxy - I know you see quite a lot of academy/reserves so iyho are there really any players out there who could make it through to the first team next season if/when we end up in L1?

Updates also on the OS, well done United for recognising the interest from fans in the Academy!

Is Whitehouse one of Dane's relation's?

What happened to the 1985/1986 Northern Intermediate League Winners?

Think that team featured the likes of Mendonca and Marsden if I recall. Remember watching a few games at the old Ball Inn Ground and then walking down to the Lane after for a first team game.

From what I was told neither the Whitehouse or the Montgomery are related to the more well known Blades players of the same names. McFadzean's brother is the Crawley skipper; Callum I think; who played for the youth team a few years ago.
