For me the saga with McCabe and The Prince is the reason the team have not been strengthened and hence the results from last summer.
Prince had to buy the assets and a cool £50m spent buying them instead would have topped up the coffers for recruitment by a tidy sum.
It would have meant competing in the £30m+ player bracket and higher wages for the likes of Matty Cash and others who went
to Villa and other teams with wealthier backers. Its not all about the ownership battle but it sure has not helped and pulled
the rug from any plans to gamble with higher stakes.

We ain't gonna pay the same wages as villa under present ownership without massive outside investment.

There's been enough money made available to do much better than we have.
It's one of those rare occurrences that those upstairs have no case to answer.

That's one of a number of reasons - all work against "smaller", none billionaire owning clubs.

ALK (IMHO) wouldn't have been the solution either if McCabe had won - they will just be leveraging money based on continuing premier league money until it goes tits up for Burnley.

A lot of it is about the money, one way or another, and how it is used.

For sure if our 4 big money signings had been better and looked by now as though they were now £30-40m players we would be where we are now.

We needed to get through year 2 and build up our status and bank balance a bit - which has failed miserably.

We now need to start again in the Championship from a better base and learn from our mistakes - one of which was our squad going into the premier league was just too weak.

What we don't need to do is dump Wilder when we get relegated. We made that mistake before - so learn from past mistakes, and that includes CW and his management team learning from their mistakes too as this is probably one of the few things we do all agree on.

I don't think it's as simple as that. Someone will come along to correct me if I'm wrong, because the different companies sends my head spinning, but it wasn't the Prince that had to buy the assets, rather the company that he owns, which also owns the shares in the football club. In effect the club has bought its own assets - and the Prince owns the company that owns the club.
This wouldn't have needed to happen had McCabe not split the assets from the club (something which horrified me at the time) but which he did to bring the Prince on board (IIRC). That enabled someone to come on board without buying 50% of McCabe's ownership - in other words, it allowed McCabe to bring someone on board who didn't have much money.
If the Prince had bought the assets with his own money, it would still have been a debt against the club and, being as he isn't loaded (in football terms) it wouldn't have made much difference, if any.
So the root lies in the way McCabe arranged for someone to take 50% ownership without having significant funds. Had he not done that, either we would have had an owner/part owner with funds or McCabe would still be sole owner.

Had the property transfer to SUL from SUFC not happened then the ground would still be in the football club with the equivalent amount of debt. That would have put a nest in the hornets mouth.......,,

The Prince was brought on board initially to assist solely in the financing of transfer fees for players and associated costs. McCabe split the ground from the football club to ensure that the ground remained in his ownership and could not be sold from underneath him
The upshot is if McCabe had won the court case he would have most likely sold out to ALK Capital who have since purchased Burnley in a leveraged buy out. He would not have sanctioned the level of spending the Prince has which of course hasnt all gone according to plan on the football pitch

You do realise that the Prince had to borrow the £50m to pay McCabe, right? He didn't have it to hand to spend on players.

How many times has Sean Dyche been able to spend £15 million + on a player?

How many League One players has Sean Dyche had to work with? The core of Burnley's squad when he took over was top end Championship, it didn't need major surgery.

It's one of the reasons. But we also dont have a billionaire owner and COVID has impacted the finance as well.

I disagree.

lots of factors at play, least of all the boardroom as that’s been pretty settled for a while now

Maybe it's just been a long day, but can you elaborate?

Yes but that's the "what if" at the end of a series of events started when McCabe split the club from the assets and brought the Prince on board. What I'm saying is that if you're (we're) unhappy with the situation re; money available because of the assets situation, we should go back to the start of it all. Had McCabe done something different then, we would probably not had the Prince join us.

Burnleys incoming transfers in the last 3 years
interesting to see that they havent signed a player for over £10m since 18/19.
IMO they have the core of a lower end prem team, and just add to it every season, whilst they will maybe flirt with relegation, they find a way to stay up. I think (and this is no criticism of CW) in Dyche they have someone who knows his way around, Chris will hopefully learn from this and be a bit more flexible if/when we return

however what it does prove, is that you can survive in this league without paying the big fees

and anyone who feels they can criticize the board, when princey has backed CW in the spending of over £100m is out of order

No bigger Blade helping the cause again ☹️
Yup, he should have just given the club away for free like everybody on here would have done.

FFS, I know McCabe is to blame for some piss poor decisions over the years, but blaming him for wanting to be paid the amount directed by a court for assets he owned, really is scraping the bucket.

In addition to last season's spending; we spent ample. We just didn't spent well.

Yeah McCabe wanted us to play it through the middle of the park, with a flat back four. Whereas the Prince wanted to continue playing down the wings, with overlapping centre backs.

If that's what they paid for Dale Stephens he would have been a good midfield signing for us.

We spent plenty of money on transfer fees, but evidently we had a wage structure that we didn't want to break. That meant we lost out on the likes of Robinson and Cash.

Should also be noted that Burnley went down in their first season under Dyche in the Prem. They bounced back as Champions and have been in the Prem ever since.

Exactly, and they kept faith in the Manager who took them down.

Personally I don't think the reason why we're bottom and relegated can be put down to one thing, I think it was a perfect storm of a number of things, team strengthening was in the wrong positions, this may be the reason the new signings look poor, or they might be just poor signings, injuries to key players meaning the team was disjointed, which may or may not explain the loss of form of other key players, wilder either unwilling or unable to come up with a plan b, covid meaning less money and more importantly no fans in the stadiums because us fans really did make a major difference to the team, we made them play better we encouraged them to attack and defend, we turned losses into draws and draws into wins. When confidence goes it goes quickly and the performances and results spiral down.
There are probably a load more reasons that I cant think of, but it cant just be pinpointed and say that was the reason we went down
