I wonder if United should be looking at going back in for SOD at the end of the season, possibly with a promotion for Pembo and truly build from the bottom up.
Seems to me we've got a complete rebuilding job on our hands and if we do have some decent young players who are being coached to play football we need a manager at the top who thinks the same way.
It might also be a way to get some pride back into the club, some identity.
It might also depend on if United burnt any bridges with SOD in December but if they didn't, it's worth considering.

We're the only thing standing between Donny and relegation. It's the least he'll owe us. :)

Why wait?

Swap now. Might help both clubs in the short and long term.

Dont think its about the manager anymore, Len

I agree the players aren't up to it but if we're looking to a proper, organised, accent on our youth future I think it's pretty obvious Adams is unlikely to be the man.
McCabe gambled Adams would scuffle his way out but just like every other football decision he's made in the last two or three years he looks to have got it wrong.
What's surprised me is that Adams has actually sounded like a beaten man for several weeks - not what I expected at all.
I think we also need to rediscover an identity as a football club, something we've lacked for a good while now.

Think the door is firmly shut on that one now if the rumoured events are correct Len.

If we genuinely clear out all the deadwood - and I can't belive we will be able to re-house our highly paid "stars" - then you'd maybe need to be looking at the likes of Keith Hill.

What we must, must. must do, is choose well AND give him time. The level of turmoil and turnover at SUFC is the 100% nailed on reason why the club is smashed into 1000,s of fragments.

Real shame if true Raul but par for the course with McCabe.
I've heard SOD refer to the lack of infrastructure at Donny since he didn't get the job and he sounded like a man who knew the potential to fully organise a club from the bottom just doesn't exist there.

why would he want to come to us? SOD will be a premiership manager soon enough - with Doncaster or not...why would he want to drop down a league to us and spend the best part of 5 years rebuilding the skeleton of a club?

Besides - we're dangerously close to pulling a wednesday here - the quick turnover of managers that results on paying off managers more money than the new one has for a transfer kitty.

face it...the team is shit and getting SOD -= a footballing manager in to manage them will be as effective as a chocolate teapot!

Micky should stay no matter what, the problem we have now is stability.

Micky also proved that given time he can make things work like he did at Port Vale

If Donny keep their current record up we will not have to pay a fee to get him! I dont think any manager would or will make a difference until we have new owners. We will never have a team that have come through the Academy. Man United produced a team that had 5 or 6 home grown players but that looks very much like a one off that no team has come close to replicating.

Er, for the reasons previously stated and I'm not sure it would take five years.
And SOD isn't going to be a Prem manager without taking a club there himself.
If the last couple of years should have told the club and some of the fans anything, it's that short-termism doesn't work.
The irony is that the club has previously said, among the many things that it's previously said, that it wants a future built on young, largely local talent.
Just can't see Adams' approach tallying with Pembo's.

Out of interest what experience does SoD have in bringing academy players through? Is this something that hes specifically been noted for at donny or his previous clubs?

He's the answer to all our woes. Pretty football, all Academy lads, all local, better pies, Adidas team strip, an end to hunger, world peace, and a nice beef sandwich for supper.

He clearly has ability at developing players but I'd also be looking at a bigger role for Pembo.

Apart from Waide Fairhurst, I don't think there's one player in their squad that has come through their academy.

I'm fairly sure they haven't really got an academy.

So what makes SoD more aligned to Pembo than Micky?

Micky makes it plain he wants the ball in the box double quick, Pembo wants all the players comfortable on the ball, playing football.
To be honest, I can't really see the point of the academy playing like it does if the first team manager wants to largely hoof it.

Does choosing a first team manager on the basis of how he dovetails with the Academy one not smack of putting cart before horse?

Not if you've got a clear vision of how you want your players to play from the top to bottom of the club.
Indeed, the club itself suggested this at the AGM and then appointed Adams.

Barcelona seem to do okay with this philosophy. The whole club is set up to play in the same way. It's easy for Barca, but why can't other clubs try to emulate their philosophy?

It takes leadership and determination to see it through, not hollow words and an absentee owner.
The bizarre thing is we have set up the infrastructure but then won't go where that naturally leads.

Speaking from experience ,O'Driscoll is an absolute disaster for bringing young players on. Lee Butler coaches my keepers every now and then and we play their junior sides in pre season friendlies every year. O'Driscoll has torn the youth set up apart and has no interest in it whatsoever ,I would even go as far as saying he has sabotaged it to release money for the senior level.

Money Money MONEY!!!

They can afford to get the top coaches, they can afford to extend there reach out for top quality youngsters, they have more money to scout for these players.

I don't think anyone's expecting Barcelona but we have brought through two Premiership quality players recently and have a current decent crop because we did invest in infrastructure.
We've certainly attracted better quality local young players ie well ahead of our competitor because of that set-up.
We then appear to have little idea how to go on from there.
