A few questions from last night.....

Far be it from me to question CWAK's tactical genius but there were a few things that stood out like a belisha beacon for me last night that had me completely dumbfounded...now don't get me wrong, individual errors apart I don't think we actually played too badly but it I felt West Ham were there for the taking and we completely missed a trick.

For starters and it was mentioned in the lead up to the game by a few pundits/journos that West Hams defence isn't the quickest, in fact it is so slow that old tree trunk legs Billy got in behind them twice in the first 10 minutes.....it has been their achiles heel on a few occasions this season so why did we start with the two slowest strikers at the Club.....?

Leading on from that, if you play Burke for his pace that would have scared the shit out of their defence so they sit deeper, which in turn allows us to play a 10 in Didzy, meaning Lundstram in the holding position and Norwood getting splinters....

Then there's the subs.....finally Norwood comes off and Didzy drops to the 10 but why McBurnie in a game that is crying out for pace? Every West Ham person in the ground thinks, "ah, they're switching to hoofball"....and whilst West Hams defence may be slow, they are fucking huge! As it turned out it was McBurnie who ended up playing the 10 more than Didzy which left me scratching my head even more.....????......

Then Egan picks up his injury, (fingers crossed it looked worse than it was) and he brings Jags on with 15 minutes left when we are chasing the game at 2 nil down......why? Bang on another striker, switch to a flat back 4 and give it a go....nowt to lose.....another head scratcher???

In my opinion CWAK got it totally wrong last night and should be held solely accountable for the loss. Yes we made individual, (read Norwood) errors but if they had got the side right from the start and made better subs, we may have stood a better chance....

Agreed, baffling decisions regarding the subs but Moyes schooled Wilder last night. "Sit deep, let them fuck about with it in the middle of the park and wait for the mistake"

Wilder has been schooled too often this season considering how well we did last season.

I'm still 100% in the keep Tufty camp but you can't ignore the blatantly obvious. The management, coaching, and recruitment have to shoulder a large chunk of the blame this season.

Clough was shown the door for refusing, or be willing, to learn from his mistakes. He didn't have the credit in the bank that Wilder does but considering how public the Prince has gone with his backing of Wilder, I don't expect it to last if next season starts disappointingly.

Issue is when your - PLAN B is to play PLAN A with players that aren’t as good you’re going to lose a lot more games than you win. We can blame it on the players my god there’s enough threads about them, but ultimately short sightedness as killed this season.

Wilder has designed a system/ethos whatever you want to call it that is devoid of flexibility and creativity the sort of stuff you need to get out of a hole.I’ve made excuses to justify wilder but the above was either arrogance or poor planning.
Despite the fact I would love us to romp home next season will be tougher than what people think, a simple comparison to Bournemouth And Watford tells us all we neeed to know because they have players that I would love to have in own team even though they play in a division lower.

It was bizarre to the extreme to leave Burke on the bench for 90 mins. I can only hope he will play against Fulham.

I too was amazed Jags came on. Really weird decision when 2-0 down, almost like Wilder gave up.

It would have been a useful tactic last night to set up the team to attack.
Wilder didn’t.
Whatever you think about him now, last season or over the last few seasons I find it baffling that there is so little acceptance that he is at fault and should, but doesn’t seem to, shoulder most of the responsibility.

This all day long - I see comparisons with the Warnock/Bassett years, a system(s) that took years to be "schooled" out of the club,
lots of managers later who to their credit tried their hardest to reform the playing side without much success, I think Clough achieved more that any of the previous managers and laid the foundations for CW to come in and in remarkable fashion ("cometh the hour cometh the man") completely change the way the playing side operates, he deserves a lot of credit for that alone!! but now we are stuck with CW system which in my opinion is looking like "dinosaur" football that is clearly not good enough for the Premier league, I'm not necessarily saying we should get rid of him but it does have to be in the mix of solutions to get us ready for next season.
Last night performance was shocking on a number of different levels.

It almost echoes what Garth Crooks was saying about us. You could say we play basic football because it is so rigid, it isn't dynamic. It's stick to the script and don't deviate from it. Doesn't really allow for any creative freedom, hence a squad full of work horses.

It was a clever solution to a lower league problem. We need a better solution for the problems we face higher up the pyramid.

I'm sure Burke will play against Fulham, but they are a side who have pacy full backs and centre halves..........so Burke will sprint around looking for loose change for 65 minutes before being hauled off for Brewster to do the same.

We had a golden opportunity last night to play a system or deploy tactics to expose a known weakness in our opposition and for some reason we didn't do it......baffling

Sadly, I agree mate. Pace against pace will not be anywhere near as effective. Mmm strange times indeed.
