Stevens

As long as the 'chance to redeem himself' excuse is around, I don't think Wilder will be dropping any of his main players anytime soon.

If Stevens is going to play, at the moment it should be at LCB.

After Stevens makes the tackle he is understanbly caught flat footed. He tries to block the follow up shot but ends up being done as the attacker takes a touch. For me enda is not to blame as he cannot mark two players. The problem is no one tracks the runner. This is due to fleck being taken out. I have not seen the replay of this incident, it may be that fleck tried to block the runner and came off the worse from the collision, although I did not see the ref signal play on. It could also be that the ref was fucking useless and var is shit. Once the overlap occurs obviously someone should close the ball down. For me Norwood is the closest. There seemed to be an age when no defender reacted before Hendo has to do the job himself. Obviously he gets his angles completely wrong. Incidentally, when did keepers start doing the weird kneel down thingy to cover the goal rather than diving at the ball pat jennings style? I'm assuming some goalkeeping coach came up with it but I have no idea when I first saw it

Sorry but that's load of bs imo. Watch the goal again. I agree Stevens is caught out of position and the ball is threaded through to his man from Arsenal's left hand side. Stevens running back goes straight to his man and closes him down as he is about to strike the ball, so much so that the Arsenal player checks back and Stevens gets a toe on the ball and flicks it away. The goalscorer is running from deep and has never been picked up by anyone in Utds midfield, but Norwood was the man closest to him and isn't tracking back. He's just stopped when the lad takes the ball off his team mate and instead of running back to make a challenge he just stands and watches. It's not Stevens job to hold up 2 opposition players. For me, it was Norwood's man all day long to cover and he didn't help out Stevens at all.
Stevens was the closest man to him and he was running towards Stevens. Thats when players get passed on.

Let's just agree to disagree then. You're entitled to your opinion. Be interesting to see what CW thinks about who could have done better in that instance.

Why does he not look when he crosses the ball?

What did he do to get back in?

Has he got some uncompromising pictures of Chris?

Can’t believe that he was picked to start and not substituted. Had already given it to them couple of times before his comedy act with Norwood and never really improved.

He is one of the players that is so different to the last two years it is unbelievable. He is devoid of confidence obviously but his decision making has gone. That stupid lunge to give the ref a chance to give a penalty after just 4 minutes was a prime example. His passing and sharp interplay with Fleck and O'Connell seems light years away. Now he is indecisive in possession and his movement off the ball seems laboured. He seemed to be set for a good few years at the top and international play but he needs to re-assess what he is going to do and where he wants to be.

Remember that worldie he scored from outside the box last season. Can't see him even attempting that type of shot this season.

First thought would be to pass it sideways/backwards

This is the saddest one for me. Was my POY in the promotion season when there were legitimately 9 or 10 contenders. A player who improved every season he has been here. Back in the normal times, post shutdown he stepped up again and was fantastic in the Premier League. He looked fearless, confident and dangerous going forward.

But since “The Restart”? No.

Is it age? Is it injuries? Is it the team in general? Mix of the the lot?

I don't know. But he’s not the same. He’s not the only one by any stretch. And as much as I love and appreciate his - and the other players from the last few years - and what absolutely mad shit they have achieved, what I’ve seen from him since the restart makes me sad.

Heart says he deserves another crack next season. Head says time to move on to the likes of RND; maybe give Lowe or Osborn a proper crack at it, or even just get a complete newbie in?

Sentiment Vs Moving On

Big decisions needed. And Enda is not the only one who - while thoroughly deserving all our respect, gratitude and good will for previous achievements - should also be scrutinised for current performance and considered for replacement as we adapt and evolve the inevitable Championship squad of next season.

I still love the fucker though.

No room for sentiment in this sport, players reach their peak at some point no shame in that.

I dont think we should be getting another player in that position, RND/Lowe/Osborne ample good enough for Championship and young enough to still become potential premier league quality if we do bounce back up.

I love Enda, being Irish was delighted he got the call up to the Ireland team, he started off 'Nervous' but gradually
became the Enda we seen at the lane the last two season,

Was delighted to see his name on the teamsheet last night, but after 5 mins he looked shattered, hes been really bad the last while
and i think he is a confidence player, the start of last season he was nutmugging week in week out getting forward
not sure if the (missing) jack and fleck link up down the left has effected him most ... no matter when he gets anywhere near fit hes straight back in
i dont get it ... does he know , no matter how bad he is , hes still first choice ? we have Lowe and Osborn who can both play there and should be on current form ahead of him

Enda , come on lad, up your game...
