It was not a great game to watch, we did what was required and for a cup game it was enough.
In no way would I use this game as a indication of how we will perform in the Championship.

You've nailed it. The trick is, don't bother with the OP's. I've never read one, because I'd worked that out long ago. But the comments that follow are entertaining. :)

Hi alcoblade and welcome back!

I think you do actually read them. Its so damned difficult for you to not get involved and comment, because in actual fact, you like the attention a helluva lot more than I do.

What's so telling is the hurt that you so obviously feel when I tell you I don't read your posts. It's not the first time. Why would you care? But you really do!

Though you love the sound of your own voice, it's very obvious that many don't. ;)

You DO read my posts, alco. I can feel your rage. Why are you here, by the way? If my mere being on S24SU was so abhorrent, what brings you to this thread?

It's because you've read it all, isn't it sweetheart?

"They see me rollin' they still hatin' ... " etc.

I’ve not read the whole thread so this might’ve been said already but in response to the OP’s assertion that yesterday demonstrates that we won’t be all that good in Championship next season I’d suggest that you have forgotten just what that division can be like. In the season that we won promotion we had plenty of games just like last night, where we completely dominate the game but struggle to break down the opposition. In fact the season we went up we lost on both occasions to Bristol City, who were in a similar position to what they are now.

Last night proves nothing about how we’ll do next season but one thing it could demonstrate is that we’re actually better than we were when we were last down there. There are positives out there, it just depends whether you actually want to find them or not...

Except 'the first speed bump' we hit was somewhere just after we returned from the first lockdown. I don't want to appear a mardy arse about it for your satisfaction, but what is your explanation therefore from two minutes in on this season when Wolves artfully skipped into our half and knocked in the first of their two goals (the second one following shortly afterwards) up until we bagged our first win (with a struggle) against Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup, having been and remained bottom on fuck all but hopes and wishes all season and effectively relegated at Christmas?

That's one helluva speed bump. I'm fighting back the tears, true99blade. Might ... start rooering ... soon ....

As many have said, without Wilder walking through the door we wouldn’t even be having this conversation. We’d most likely be closer to the 4th division than the Premier League. Just think he and the players deserve a bit more slack and not rinsed after every under par performance like you and certain others always do. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Crazy to think we’ve made an FA Cup quarter-final with so many ‘fans’ this pissed off.

So in your mind, no matter what, we just remain eternally grateful that after, ohhh ... how many failed attempts at getting the right manager in we finally do and he changes things to get us up and into the PL ... no matter what, fail or succeed, we stand worshipping the moment he walked through the door as some totemic moment in our uncritical existence?

The players have enough slack, playing in from of just cameras and empty stadiums every weekend. And if you look, (which clearly you haven't, or you have, but select negatives for your own podium of self-righteousness) I have been positive where needed. Had we drawn Villa (for example) in the 3rd Round, we'd have been out by now, that, I hope you acknowledge. We are seriously underperforming this season and despite the 'crazy' results we have had against ostensibly lower placed teams and our appearance in the glass ball for the next round, we are shit out of easy teams to graze past now on what should have been us playing at least 50% second stringers and still winning comfortably.

You write so much yet say very little.

No we shouldn’t worship them, some should cut them some slack, like I said. Bit of a difference.

We might not have beaten Villa? What are you on about? If we drew a top 10 team in the 3rd round, yes I agree we might not have won. 👍🏻

We’ve won 3 cup games and find ourselves in the last 8, obviously teams are gonna be tougher at this stage. None of this counters what I’ve said you’re just ranting again.

It's good of you to characterise what I put on here as 'ranting', being as you seem ever the more animated and critical. Just when does opinion and observation made become 'ranting'? Want me to write everything in capitals?

To clarify, I am glad we are in the final eight. Truly I am. But for some, narrow victories over lower league teams seems more to celebrate than discuss the real problems down there on the green stuff during ninety minutes of football. It's sticking plaster, a distraction, a sideshow. Nothing more, nothing less. The system is still broken, the midfield pathetic, the front line combination in every array ineffective in scoring goals and the team incapable of imposing themselves. This isn't ranting; it's reality. And if you can't face that, then it's you who has the problem, not me.

You know if I had had to do a My Take I’d say we were good at the back. We were good playing it forward and passing it around but then NOTHING.

This is the problem I see this season that we didn’t last.
We are too slow going forward and the amount passing it around in triangles, oblongs, hexagons and so on the opposition are all sat back ready to defend.
This is why we are not scoring.
Just hammer it down the wings and get a quick cross in. Burst through the middle and create havoc and allow the strikers the space to do their thing.

It was definitely a problem last season, particularly after Christmas. We just took it to new unimageable levels for the first half of this season.

Narrow victories happen all the time against teams in league 2 playing premier league teams. You know that some league 2 teams have beaten premier league teams don’t you?
It has been an awful season but you don’t seem to take anything else into account such as coming into this league as quickly as we did. It seems like you think just because we are in the division we should be competing with teams playing swashbuckling football along the way.
It doesn’t work like that, nobody is denying it hasn’t been tough this year and we haven’t been good enough however people also temper this by seeing things that have gone on such as injuries no fans wage bills etc.
Like I have said before you don’t want to debate with anyone your take is done to just create a reaction and feed your ego. Most people can be disappointed without going to town like you seem to do under the umbrella of lightheartedness.
The thing is you aren’t trying to be lighthearted you genuinely believe everything you write and get off on the notoriety.
You reply to people trying to be cute and clever but it comes across as someone troll who is sat wanking behind their computer you know the type of person our manager has called out this week.
I suppose people like me give you the oxygen you crave so I am as much to blame for you inflating your ego.

There's a reason I label him 'McPub', and I hope it is self-evident.

His output this season has been unimpressive. Whether he likes it or not, he's been made the 'target man' when he's on the pitch for hoofball, which moreoften than not, ricochets off his head and ends up at opposition player's feet. He also likes to leave a mark on opposition players. Both of these traits wouldn't be out of place on the top pitch at Herdings Park back in my day. IN fact, that is exactly where I used to see it, back in the Bumchester Arms vs Cockhole Athletic days of the 1970s, where that shit would work on a muddy pitch with 60mph winds hurtling down the hill from the flats, five people on the touchline, no nets, ten pints and a full Sunday Roast, jumpers for goalposts and all that schizen. It's 'pub football', not high-level, Premier League stuff from an Internationally capped striker. There's 'proper centre forwards' like Ings and Wood in the PL these days who yeah, put themselves about, but who also have bagged some goals this season to justify that. So far, McBurnie has failed on all aspects (except defence) and even put himself on the treatment table with more shithousery vs Palace.

pommpey
You are replying to a comment not aimed at yourself, I did mention last time your continuous use of McPub was childish criticise the bloke by all means when he has a bad game but posters doing it when he is not even on the pitch is pathetic. Billy Sharp was no more effective last night than McBurnie has been with the shit service they get of late.
Not sure what has upset you my comment last week or calling out your new arse licker but hey ho I know what is coming "don't read it scroll on past" or maybe like Dronnie is asking I could add to the list for the ignore button, it is getting a lot of use due to the amount of mardy arses on this forum just now.

Blimey. That hurts my butt SO much. Coming from someone currently trolling me (and possibly sat at his desk, stripped below the waist, save for socks) trading personalised insults like it is ever, ever gonna dissuade me from posting 'My take ... '

You're right. It inflates my ego so big. It wouldn't fit into BDTBL, in fact. Massive. Bigger than Wednesday.

Now, if I admit that, will you fuck off out of any 'My take ... ' threads in future? Will you look at it and think 'nope ... not going there ... don't care what he's fucking going on about ... it's only that fucking know-nowt inflating his own ego with his cute and clever shit and he'll only be slagging the players off anyway, and might make me rooer.'

Will you do that? Please?

Might make a world of difference for you.

Tsk, tsk, Pommps. You should know by now that differences of opinion will not be tolerated. It also appears there are many who have had a sense of humour bypass too.

Pommpey's posts are entertaining and even if I don't agree with every comment or view on a player. I struggle to understand why some posters get offended. There are some valid talking points within the original post. The thing is that we are lacking a cutting edge. We got away with that last season. This season we are hurting. So in the context of the overall season we haven't had a run of games to get excited about our performances. Since our ventures this season in the PL are so poor, we look to the cup for evidence that we still have something. The cup performances just add to the view that we are seriously lacking an ability to dominate games and put teams to the sword. It says a lot when again Didsy is up there again competing for player of the season. The postings of Pommpey may sound like the ramblings of the love child of Shakespeare and Roy Chubby Brown, but beneath the theatrical comedy there are grains of truth that we all recognise.

You want my reply you need my reply problem is you don’t like my reply. So you own the rights to this thread? Is it copy-write? Oh I see you only want people who think your my take ( you love using the name of it don’t you by the way) is humorous in some way?
The same way I can stroll past your little take if you don’t like people calling you out don’t write it in a public message board on the internet. You sound like a child throwing your teddy out of the pram because people see through the bullshit and know you are doing it for attention.
I have spoke about the game many times you just seem to ignore it and cry about people not talking about the game. By the way did you find any evidence of my tub thumping about the game or was it you just being humuorous again? Like a young Peter Kaye.

No, it's not copyrighted. And as I have said, numerous times, I don't expect people to agree with me or like 'My take ... ' (it's called that, because it's called 'My take ... ' silly old you!) But I would expect an angry old chap like you to regard it as utter bollocks and go look in another thread, summat that makes you laugh, and nod, and smile and be happy. Why exactly are you here, by the way?

Oh ...

The same way I can stroll past your little take if you don’t like people calling you out don’t write it in a public message board on the internet.

No. Y'see, this isn't me - trolling you - in your thread. It's you, making a cunt out of yourself in a thread I created, about last night's match. The clue is 'public message board'. I can post stuff. So can you. I can decide not to do so, you can decide to scroll past. But you don't. You're seemingly a bit mad at it stoking my ego, yet here you are, keeping this thread at the top of the page. Yeah - 'you'.

You sound like a child throwing your teddy out of the pram because people see through the bullshit and know you are doing it for attention.

You are a bit mad still, aren't you? Sorry, who is throwing their teddy out here again?

I have spoke about the game many times you just seem to ignore it and cry about people not talking about the game.

No, you haven't. You've offered thin assessments of parts of the game, then followed it up with petulant, spiteful bile about me, like you're some wronged 13 year old girl in the fucking dining room at school thumbing vitriol into their phone to her pals. You're still at it in fact, playing the player. Why not do one of two things: 1. Fuck off or 2. Grow up and fuck off? Go ply your trade in someone else's thread. You're wasting your time here.

By the way did you find any evidence of my tub thumping about the game or was it you just being humuorous again?

Well, it is difficult to find, I admit, in and amongst the worrying levels of rooering and mardy arsed bitching, just because some football fan posts stuff on the internet about a football team. Do you not think you need to have a break from all of this? Go play with the turds in your nappy or smack the rattle or dribble into your bib a bit more?

Like a young Peter Kaye.

Great comeback bro. It's 'Kay', by the way.

We were comfortable, yes, we were mostly in control, yes, we could not score in open play against a poor team, yes, RB & ON were poor once again, yes.

We were excellent up to the half way line & then it was dull. predictable & boring. Against such poor opposition it speaks volumes for the inadequacies of the front 5, generally and on the night. All the other 7 clubs still in it after tonight will want us in the next round.

But I would expect an angry old chap like you to regard it as utter bollocks
😂😂😂 this made me chuckle I have to admit self awareness isn’t your greatest attribute is it.
Do you not think you need to have a break from all of this?
You and me both it seems.

I will now pop in the other thread you trolled me on the one where your name wasn’t even mentioned yet felt the need to cry a bit more to me. Have a good day flower.

I love this thread! Not for Pommpey's op, that is quite predictable now........ we don't tear a lower league side a new 'un so we have underperformed. Nah not in my eyes.... we won a cup game 1-0 without ever getting into top gear. This is 'job done' for me - and it was pleasing to see what Billy the Blade had to say too. Anyway I digress..... sod the game. This thread is better than Coronation Street, Eastenders and Emmerdale all rolled into one. Love the backwards and forwards bitch slaps.

My interest will probably wane when lockdown is over and we can return to some normality in life - please can we 🥺 but for the time being, this thread will do until the coronavirus figures are out and I can peruse them for a bit instead. Exciting life, me? Oh yeah baby!

Wow....reading some of this, was I the only one that enjoyed the game?

Has everyone already forgotten the really, really shit games we’ve endured over the years? (Oldham 0-5 anyone?)

I even enjoyed watching Bash the hardened Geordie happily wearing a short-sleeve shirt in a sub-zero blizzard.

“Bored to tears” and “switched off at half time” sound like the same people who always push their way out of the stadium 10 mins before the end, or spend most of the game yakking on about their recent trip to Meadowhall.

Wankers.

One will want us, the other six prefer Cherries...

One question this morning, Pommpey. Feel free to disregard if you think it is laced: Should Chelsea feel embarrassed today or not - about the manner of their win over the Dingles?

One question this morning, Pommpey. Feel free to disregard if you think it is laced: Should Chelsea feel embarrassed today or not - about the manner of their win over the Dingles?

Let me contextualise:

Did our game versus Bristol City contain this lineup:

---------------------------------------Verrips---------------------------------------

---Baldock----------Basham---------Jagielka----------Robinson---------Lowe---

----------------Rodwell--------------Ampadu-------------Osborn-----------------

-------------------------Hackford---------------McBurnie--------------------------

Note how many 'non regulars' are in there and, had we played that ostensibly second string team, away at Ashton Gate and come away with a 0-1 win with or without a VAR penalty and them having ten men, I'd be less ashamed or embarrassed as I was when BCFC went down to ten men and managed to keep our first team from scoring further, at home, with effectively a full strength team.
