I'm not going to try and fall out with anyone over this and it's good that supporters back the players to the point at which they don't deserve the support. But.....
I have to say I didn't think he played particularly well at all. His first few touches were poor (expected under the circumstances) and really didn't see him affect the game at all. It was fairly obvious he was playing deeper straight away and he didn't track back well until later in the game.
He did defend well on a couple of occasions - he saw a potentially dangerous cross out of play - and he gave us a bit more defensive presence at times. Going forward he looked 'Bambi-esque' and just as slow and completely unaware, unthinking, and reactive (not proactive) as he's always been.
Maybe i need to re-watch the second half? Maybe i've got it all wrong? I've been very critical of him so maybe I'm only looking for the bad things he does at times.
But all this "he was the reason we won" stuff? No, not for me. Sorry. Not at all.
I was very enthusiastic about us signing him and desperately wanted him to do well, but he's been a huge disappointment so far and he looks a million miles away from the player he looked in the championship, regardless of 'where' he plays.
At least we'll get to see him in that environment next season, so we'll see then.
