How does anyone know what this vaccine is going to do to anyone long-term I don't believe the government or the science up the common sense
A bit of social solidarity doesn’t go amiss; don’t forget that it works both ways - if you have the vaccine, you won’t be able to pass the virus on to anybody else.
We don’t know the long-term effects of anything until the long-term has passed; in which case it would be too late for you to take it. The track record of vaccination is good - after clean drinking water,it has been the second most effective way of saving lives. Your choice, of course.

I am for getting the vaccine but I dont think the scientists have found evidence that you cannot pass on the virus to someone who hasnt had immunity?

Science is not my strong point. I know there are many unknowns with this virus, but I was assuming that if the vaccine works, you are very unlikely to develop COVID, so the disease will decline as fewer and fewer people have the virus to pass on. Is this not how herd immunity builds up? Happy to be corrected if that is rubbish...

Saw in the news that the vaccine will give you the immunity but the scientists arent sure how long will the immunity will last and also arent sure if you can pass on the virus to infect those who didnt get the vaccine? Maybe someone will correct me? Am glad my 92 year old mum has decided to have the vaccine, everyone in my family will too when we get the letter or whatever.

If it works and enough people get the vaccine, as long as we continue to test people coming into the country, hopefully in a couple of years it'll have mostly buggered off.

Vital we keep developing accurate rapid tests and build testing/ quarantining facilities at ports I reckon so there's a secure but comfortable environment, and minimal movement of anyone that tests positive.

It was our blasé attitude to incoming visitors that gave us no chance of controlling it. A sign in a chemist that says "have you been to Wuhan lately?" won't do for a global pandemic.

I'll take it when offered as it means I'm less of a danger to others, I know how angry I get when I see someone without a mask in the shop so I'd be a bit of a hypocrite really if I didn't get it.

Anyone saying that only the elderly and vulnerable should have it and that relatively healthy people don’t need it should read up on why vaccinations and herd immunity are essential to the containment of virulent infections. One thing I’ll say to save you the bother of doing your own research is that not everyone who is vulnerable can have the vaccine, so if you have it and the risk of you passing on the infection to them is lessened, that surely has to be a good thing. Unless you’re comfortable with the idea of giving Covid to someone on immunosuppressant medication, for instance.

Anti-vaxxers won’t listen though. Blah blah common sense, blah blah personal choice, blah blah take back control.

Precisely saw it in the news

A couple of q's for all you guys in favour of everyone having the vaccine:

Do you also think the flu vaccine should be mandatory?
Do you currently have the flu vaccine every year?
If so is that because your advised to do so for your health or do you volunteer to have it anyway to stop others getting flu?
Do you think we need a vaccination cert for flu to go on holiday or to the footy as well?

Anti vaxxers by that do you mean people who care what they pump into their bodies I suggest you do a lot more research away from the government websites and bbc and tabloids and find out what this is really all about

1. No. The more, the merrier, but mandatory is not really an option to consider in this situation. And I can’t think of likely situations for making vaccines mandatory for a whole population.
2 Yes
3 Both. By coincidence in family history have just come across letters from an ancestor in Canada, early 1920, talking about class-mates and staff being there one day and dead the next because of this flu outbreak- it lasted there until the March. I think he would have taken a vaccine.
4 Perhaps best decided by individual organisations. A care home may want visitors to be clear of the virus; pubs probably not. The beach at Brid is fine; if I went on cruises (I don’t), I would prefer to know that everyone has immunity.

Haha.
I won't be having any vaccine till its a record of not making people grow extra legs etc, which I'll take as proven around the 5 year mark.. All my kids have been vaccinated during their upbringing as I was, so I'm wondering if I'm antivax or not?

The point is if you have the vaccine you're allegedly safe so why force it on people who don't want it

No, I mean ignorant and selfish people who think they know better than educated and experienced scientists when it comes to epidemiology and medicine.

You stick to your conspiracy theories and poorly-constructed and researched ideas about what’s happening in the world, because they make you feel clever and important and special, and I’ll take my advice from professionals who know what they’re talking about.

Just sensible mate not jumping on the massive ride that is named covid

Why do you think everyone should have the Covid vaccine and not the flu vaccine? or have I misunderstood your answers

Hahaha ignorant and selfish sure you don't mean someone with a mind of their own who can make their own conclusions seems to me the boots on the other foot

Would you believe a professor of evidence based medicine at Oxford?

Who are these people how many are there are they not able to be protected compared to millions who are perfectly safe
Yep fuck the infirm ,elderly and vulnerable ,as long as the selfish millions are safe. Personally I find anyone who wont have the vaccine incredibly selfish and I hope they enjoy the isolation they deserve to get. Many thousands have been on trials ,many millions have been spent all over the world to develop and vaccine that will hopefully get life back to normal. The only reason other vaccines and medicines take longer is down to funding and volunteers for trials ,but you guys know best. Its not just people dying of Covid its people dying of other illnesses that have become a victim of Covid ,whether its due to hospital and medical personnel shortages or the shittyness of life as it is.
So you go and shove your principles and selfishness up your arses ,I will be happy on my next plane trip that you are not.

no capitals either if thats what gets you off.

Is he in a position to influence public health policy? Because that's what he really needs to be able to do if he's so knowledgeable. I feel a bit wary of these experts who have no influence. They've sort of given up haven't they?

With respect that's your opinion I have mine and I ain't gonna ram it down your throat why do you think you are correct and I am not you're just quoting what the government and bbc have told you there is a lot more information out there if you look hard enough have a good day if that's possible

Is choosing to fly, knowing the damage it causes, not a selfish act too?
You may have a chart of personal degrees of selfishness I guess, that you could choose to impose on others whilst disregarding your own actions. Maybe.

Mel Rees, as he was undergoing treatment for Cancer would have been very susceptible to infection passed to him by others. He very likely had a compromised immune system. His chances of survival would have been improved by basic health procedures of others like cleanliness, distancing, herd immunity by vaccination against diseases prevalent at the time.
Mel Rees RIP

Why is having influence any gauge on credibility? Trump has lots of influence, do you think all that he says is credible?

My point was about this post:

"No, I mean ignorant and selfish people who think they know better than educated and experienced scientists when it comes to epidemiology and medicine.

The first line makes out everyone with a certain level of scientific knowledge agrees with him. Im intrigued as to how he actually chooses the scientist he believes. What qualification is enough? Id argue that a professor of evidence based medicine at Oxford is more qualified in this field than him and probably anyone in SAGE.

Second part of his post is just trying to belittle anyone who doesn't share his views again. How is he so positive he knows whats correct?
