So you wanted us to pay whatever for players this getting the club into financial trouble if we got relegated? You do realise there are no certainties with any player look at Villa they stayed up by the skin of their teeth and a goal not given. If they had gone down so you realise the shit they would be in? Is this what you would have wanted us to do?
You have absolutely no idea who Wilder wanted scouted or even enquired about. Wanting players is one thing getting them in is a completely different situation. Look at Matty Cash we couldn’t or didn’t want to compete with those silly fees. What we have done is what wilder all along said we would do, buy from a certain market and coach them work on them and hope they make the step up!
like it or not we are little Sheffield United in terms of the premier league, we cannot attract players who think they should be playing in an established premier league teams in the top 10. They are basic facts, I’m sure everyone would have loved to sign a Watkins or a Cavani but we can’t do it.
Surely you can see that we're more at risk of financial impacts if we were to be relegated from this division..? Parachute payments are 3 years. What then?

No we’re not because we won’t be lumbered with players on stupid amounts of money plus we have a good chance of going straight back up! The fact that Villa paid 35m for Watkins and paying in double what we would have paid tells you everything you need to know about how attractive a team is. Villa have one of the richest men in the world bank rolling them so they are in a different league to us signing players. From day one the club and wilder told everyone how we were going to do things and it was always with a view to protecting the club. If we go down we will financially be fine and that’s more important than risking it just to stay in the division.

You just gonna reply to that one part and ignore the rest then? "We have a good chance of going back up" okay. So let's say that's true (it isn't as the best of our players would be off) what then? Give wilder a load more cash to waste or..?

It wouldn't have been risking it spending what we have spent a bit more wisely. We're risking the financial impact of the premier League due to the players we've signed.

Woah. Let's rewind a bit. I've just given you costings to how we'd have got him, now I'm putting us in potential financial ruin? Do you not read what folk put? I've literally got Eduoard in with what was spent this season. And before you say "oh, so you wouldn't have gone for cover for joc" at the time of the transfer window wilder didn't know the extent of the injury. So if we're going all out, then I didn't know at the time either. No and I don't claim to know who he wanted or didn't want, but do you not think (and please try and take off the glasses) it was a bit silly spending the majority of our transfer budget on a striker who has played few premier League games, and has a similar scoring record (if averaged out for the full season) to MCB? In fact, don't answer that. I already know the answer. Until you and others drop the "little old Sheffield United" bollocks, we'll forever be a team who's almost thankful that we got in this league. You make us sound like fucking Exeter city.
But we are little old Sheffield United at the minute in terms of the premier league! I’m not sure why you have a problem with that we are in different league to most teams in the division that’s a fact! Without major investment we have to build something in the same way Burnley did. That means if we go back we come back again stronger. Again I’m not quite sure what the issue is with that. People want instant success I get that and we have pretty much had that for the last 4 years, maybe we have to take a small step back to go further forward ala Burnley. Let’s just chill out see what happens instead of throwing the baby out with the bath water?

But.. we aren't? We got more money than some clubs for where we finished. We've spent more money than most in the league. I don't want instant success. In fact, the opposite. A measured approach in which we gradually improve. You don't buy a fiesta st because you can improve it to race against Bugatti. That's just stupid. You buy players suited here and now. You don't spunk the majority of your budget on "potential" especially when as you keep saying we're "little old Sheffield United" surely you buy players there or there abouts.. and don't say "money" because I've just highlighted that it would've been somewhat possible.

Typical Bladey inferiority complex..

.... as the man would have said back in the day.

Every signing is a risk Jesus wept! Who’s to say the guy from Celtic you mention would come in and do the business. Look at some of the big money flops Villa made. So we sign a player for 35m on 70k a week and it doesn’t work out would you say ahhh it doesn’t matter because at least we spent it on someone who has done well before? No you would be kicking off like you are now! You are judging these “flops” on one season or less it’s madness!

You're starting to bore me now, as you're changing what I've said to fit your narrative. "They either aren't good enough or not good enough at the moment" "development players" I mean. Compare his goalscoring record to that of any, fuck it.. all of our strikers put together. No, I'd be annoyed. But when you sign a player who's scored for fun in the Scottish premiership and the Europa League, I'd say you've less of a chance he'll be a dud OR that given a few games he'll get up to standard.

And before you say "why would someone who's played in Europe come to us", he wouldn't.. not now, but before this season started, off the back of a tenth place finish in our first season back, we'd have stood a chance. Attempting to go for someone of that quality when we're effectively (as it stands) relegation fodder would be stupid and a waste of time.

Also your comment regarding Watkins is utter shite mate. He went to a team that stayed up by the skin of their teeth, we finished 10th like you said. We'd surely have been a more attractive proposition for him. Well. Until we started offering mentos and shandy as wages. Pay peanuts, you get monkeys. Wilder had an ample budget to sign two maybe three quality players (one I mentioned) but he refused to spend above the norm, That's fine in championship, not so much in the premier League. "You want us to potentially risk our club?" Simple answer no. However if we'd have pushed the boat out (we did, but wilder bought shite) and paid premier League wages, I guarantee you we wouldn't be bottom of the league. 170m like you said. 60m to the stadium. We've bought players who are either not good enough, or will be eventually. That's not good enough.
I don't think Wilder would be opposed to offering higher wages, he's working with what he's given.

There's a lot of supposition in what you've said, you can't possibly know what financial conditions Wilder is working to.

Also probably slow down on the personal abuse, I've not seen Robbo start calling you all the names under the sun because he doesn't agree with you.

You know what I think it’s time to put this away for a while! It looks like the battle lines have been drawn no matter what happens it’s plain to see that loyalty counts for nothing and unless a manager improves the position or wins trophies at Sheffield United year in year some fans will want a change.
One thing cannot be argued changing the manager at this club year in year has not been beneficial to us! Every championship club and many premier league clubs would take Chris Wilder in a heartbeat unfortunately the line has been drawn in the sand with some supporters and that’s it! While most who support wilder can see and understand the criticism the people wanting a change in manager cannot see the other issues the club as a who’s has!
It’s incredible sad seeing fans turn so quickly but it is a sad indictment of the social media football fan era!

He's called me enough names bud, regards supposition, he asked me to name someone I'd have gone for within what was spent this season, I did that.

I'd settle for not making us bang average and an absolute shadow of what we were. Again. Never said I want a change of manager, give it a few more scoreless losses and I might be in that camp. But he shouldn't be given a free pass because of what he's done, "you're only as good as the current season" he literally said that himself. I think he should be questioned on various things, would you trust him with money in January with his previous transactions? A poster mentioned this the other day, if there's no trust there, then what hope do we have should we stay up/go down? If the chairman's unwilling to trust Chris with the cheque book, he's essentially fighting with one hand behind his back before he's even started.

Dane you seem to be enjoying this far too much !

Seems to be a few loving it! For someone who doesn’t want him sacked he isn’t exactly giving a balanced view! I can imagine a few rubbing their hands at the thought of us getting beat on Saturday so they think they are being proved right!

Once again it’s like a stuck record! Who’s giving him a free pass or saying he can’t be questioned? Nobody at all people have issues with people arguing he should go! Let’s be fair you are firmly in that camp the only way you may change your mind is if we don’t have any goalless losses! Well that’s not going to happen so have some balls and just admit you want him gone! The vociferous way you have been saying why he should be sacked says it all.
You have never once brought some of the circumstances we are in the position we are in apart from this is crap that’s crap the others crap! Blimey you must have been suicidal that that Tuesday night at Bury!

Like I said and keep saying no other manager would have got the group of players we have to the premier league and no other man would get us out of this so why not show a bit of positivity and start looking at things more balanced. Does all those things give him a free pass? No. Does it mean he deserves some loyalty? god dam right it does!

Speaking as someone who has seen every game this year and who saw every home game in 1990-1, the current team is far worse, relative to its peers, than the 1990-1 team was. That team had a goalscorer and an excellent keeper, for starters.

Plus we added, dare I point it out, a creative midfielder in January who was an enormous help in saving us.
2018-19 and 2019-20 teams were far,far better than any of Bassett's seasons

I agree.

This season and team is far worse than any of the Bassett seasons though and we dont have a talisman like Deane or heck even a leader like Vinny Jones who did well that season to help galvanise us.

Even the 90-91 season there was some fight and we had a go in many games. I thought we were down that year but that side got on a great winning run post Xmas. We had Tracey, Deane and Hodges. We also had some spirit and fight. Hard to see where that is coming from currently without a good keeper, goalscorer or a playmaker.

As much as Egan, Norwood etc keep writing stuff on social media about not giving up...They need to show it on the pitch. Too often we go behind and the heads drop. That's what has shocked me this season. I thought many were stronger characters and would take more responsibility. Wilder talked about having lots of captain types but not seeing any leadership on the pitch at all.

Come on Robbo, even you must know that’s a load of bollocks! 😁

Too early to judge this season when we still have 29 games left. This season is definitely not as good as last season's. Yes, in 1990-91 we had outstanding players such as Deane, Tracey and Hodges (from January) but who else from the squad would get into the 2019-20 team? I hated Vinny Jones as he was a terrible with the ball, he takes the man rather than the ball and nowadays he would have been serving a lot of suspensions. He belittled us in his autobiography claiming that he won MOTM every week with us which was utter bullshit. It is difficult to have a strong squad for more than two seasons as this season we have been unlucky with injuries and it looks like we will see a different side for the rest of the season. Hopefully we will stay up and that we will have a stronger squad next season.

And where is it we are heading? Oh back to the championship well di dums! You lot keep coming up with this brainless idea to get rid of the best manager we have ever had after one bad run in circumstances that at unparalleled! However you can’t come up with a replacement who could genuinely keep us in the division with the players we have.
Let me let you into a little secret, we had no right to get promoted from the championship, we had no right to do what we did last season! How about you suck it up and if we go down let the man who has more than proved himself get us back! Oh no let’s go through the merry go round of managers we have done in the past. Can you tell me how that’s worked out in the past! Stop being a fanny we are having a bad time of it suck the fucker up back the club and the team the best you can which means not coming on a message board calling for the managers head! Show some loyalty you will have been lapping up the good times!
Naa naa naa naa he’s a Blade oh he’s a Blade

I'm starting to come round to this way of thinking... Would rather watch us having a go at teams in the championship than the depressing stuff we've had to endure this season...
