I really scratched my head at the time when we loaned him as I thought he was pretty solid when he did and if we had him now would deffo give us something a bit different.

I just think in essence CW gave up to easily on him; least that's my take on it.

Would be great if a recall clause is in play,we could use him for sure.

Overall, think we did ok in transfer window but this is still strangest one to me.
 



Difficult decision. Do i trust Chris's judgement as an experienced manager or your opinion as a fan? 🤔

completely agree, Fleck’s injury has really made this seem even more of a mistake now, we have no one of the attacking midfielder mould. Unfortunately it looks like forest have an option to buy, so a recall is dead in the water unless we paid to have him back, genuinely wouldnt be against this happening either
 
1. He is not good enough playing on the left side of midfield
2. We never play an AMC, which is where he is good

I would have liked to have his kind of player on the bench to change it up but we never used him that way anyway.

No one seems to consider that Freeman might have asked to leave in order to get first team football?
 
Fleck was injured last season and he didn’t always play Freeman. There are obviously other reasons he isn’t here.
 
I'm fine with Freeman if Wilder didn't want to play him, may as well go. But we did need another in midfield, mainly on the right side. Saying all of that, Berge has to play RCM for me, offers so much more creativity there than he can in the sitting role, and Norwood was consistent last season, and his set pieces are invaluable certainly at his best.
 
I think Wilder had earmarked Freeman to play towards the end of last season when Fleck was out injured, however Freeman then was out injured hence why he didn't get a run in the team.

Every time I saw Freeman last season I thought he played well and if Fleck is out injured now I'd have definitely have Freeman in the starting XI.

For me when they're all fit my midfield three would be Berge-Norwood-Fleck.

Yeah course I am, but given Chris has more experience in management than any of us here it's a bit silly to regard our opinions above his, and in turn question his based on watching from the stands or on TV. imo. :)
 
Non of our midfield players seem to like a tackle and Freeman even more so. Good when in possession but terrible out of it explains why he was not retained.
 
Luke Freeman was brought in to play as a 10. We chose to start the season with a flat 3 and it worked, so we've stuck with it. This made Freeman unlikely to fit in the squad, especially with Osborn proving himself worthy of being Fleck's back up.

I know some people liked him because he has good feet and some tekkers (as did I), but I wish people would actually acknowledge the above.
 
Its a strange one
I get that he doesnt fit our normal system, but surely you can make tactical changes during a game and he does give us something different, I do think we are sometimes too rigid with our tactical shape and should be a bit more flexible in some games
The other thing I dont get why loan him out why not sell him to generate money for our transfer budget

I don’t know whether it would be awful, or blissful, to lack my own critical thought.

Wilder, whilst achieving great things with us in the past, is certainly proving this season (and towards the end of last, if we’re allowed to refer to that) that he’s not infallible. Letting our one bit of creativity in midfield leave with no adequate replacement, especially when our first choice left footed option has been struggling for form and fitness, would appear to be one of his mistakes.

Chris Wilder has said himself that he isn’t interested in the past, but let’s hope the immediate future starts to mirror the better times he’s given us over the past few years.

As an aside, as well as Freeman, I note that Forest also signed Anthony Knockaert on loan. That looks like a couple of pieces of a pretty shit hot midfield jigsaw for a second tier team!

And yeah Chris isn't infallible but I doubt anyone here can offer him thoughts that haven't already run through his head.
Now were there some. fans demand Prem. football, I'm not one..Andnif we go down I'll. Still support the best manager we've had for the last two decades.
 
Freeman's wage was probably needed for the Brewster signing. HRH's strategy to raise the funds to finance the £100m purchases for the PL would have needed a buy potential business plan. We could have gone for 10x£50k pw Welbeck/Sturridges it might keep us up but the long term financial risk would probably not stand up.

You’re obviously a big Chris Wilder fan, and that’s lovely. Me? I’m a Sheffield United fan, who has massively enjoyed what he’s done over the past few years, and want us to do the best we possibly can in the future. We can’t live in the past.

People keep saying Wilder has pretty much got a free pass because of what he’s done. I can’t agree with this.

The important question isn’t “what has he done?” but “what is he going to do?” If he’s going to sort the terrible form out that we’re currently in, all power to him. I really hope he does, because I have absolutely no idea who would be best to replace him, but I wouldn’t be happy for the club to sit idly by while we get relegated with barely a whimper, because I don’t think he’d find it as easy to take us back up as some seem to think. Clearly past performance is the easiest thing to judge by, and his has been brilliant. But if it becomes obvious he can’t arrest the slide, he’d have used up his credit and we’d need to find somebody who could.

I do think it’s too early to be reviewing his position (a la Blade56 ’s thread), but he shouldn’t be allowed an indefinite reign once the progress stops.

I just want what’s best for the club and relegation is the last thing we need, whoever is at the helm.

Freeman replaces Didzy, not Fleck. It's not rocket science.
 
On the 10 option debate, from revisiting the Wilder Whiteboard yesterday on the Ampadu thread, it seems we had targeted a new RCM that could offer backup to Lundstram while also being able to fit in further forward of required.

I wonder whether this is slightly where the “votes against” happened on some of the deals we did this summer if they veered slightly from what had been the agreed plan. I am just guessing here, but I suspect the plan had shifted to be moving Freeman on (potentially prompted by Freeman’s desire for regular football) for cash to reinvest in the RCM role, getting Lowe in when the opportunity arose to free Osborn full time to focus on LCM. The key hurdle was finding a willing buyer for Freeman – and given the current financial uncertainties nobody was willing to stump up the sort of cash we were looking for, or at least not in this window.

Why did Freeman start instead of Fleck against palace first home game last season


A lot of people after that match thought fleck wouldnt get back in the team
 
Grass is always greener, I did think Freeman did really well in his limited appearances but it's easy to think we aren't creating much so we need our attacking midfielders back. As someone pointed out he did seem to be overlooked even when he seemed the most logical replacement.
 
Luke Freeman is the latest victim of Steven Kabba syndrome.

He isn't good enough to play regularly in the Premier League as he's too slow of foot and thought. They're fine margins but he's on the wrong side of them.
