No more signings

We’ve arguably known since villa last season that JOC wasn’t right.

we’ve failed to address that (despite wilder calling out we can’t rely on a full season of Robinson there) and Also Address the total lack of midfield creativity in the squad.

we’ve not used all the loan options (foreign or domestic) available to us.

it’s been a good window for the squad but for me there is a feeling we still have holes in the side and we haven’t really got the maximum out of the window. Most of the signings have yet to contribute anything and don’t appear close to being regulars for us. And probably only Brewster (hopefully) and ramsdale will start of 50% of our games.

hope it doesn’t end up costing us. For us to have a good season we are going to need fleck and Norwood back and on form and Brewster to hit the ground running.
 
Regardless of any of our opinions, there is a significant difference this season... Next transfer window is only 2.5 months away

I am not moaning that we haven't made more signings per se, but I did think we would have an emergency fund in case of injury robbing us of a player or 2 for long periods. It's okay to say we will look again in Jan but by then we could be in trouble.
Yes £120m in 2 seasons, unbelievable really & for the most part very happy with who we have bought in, that wasn't the point, it was just a slightly humorous nod to our past reputation for splashing the cash, not bashing the management at all.
 
the window has been brilliant, we've just had rotten luck on the field and in the physio room. Unfortunately we just can't stretch to affording immediate 1st team cover at LCB, and with how JOC has played, it would cost in excess of £20m to actually replace him permanently.

yes we could have got Cooper or Davies in there but they are Championship players just like Robinson and who's saying they'd be better, in fact i'd put money on them being worse in at least the first 3-4 games as they don't know the club/role like JR does.

However, what i am surprised at is that we did not seek out a LCB epl loan. There are a few slot in options just scouring Transfermarkt, i'd have looked at Marcos Rojo (yes wages - but we could justify the outlay for 1st team cover), Ciaran Clark from Newcastle, Pablo Mari from Arsenal who is coming back in time from an injury spell, those are some LCB's with 1st team EPL experience who could have potentially slotted in off the bat.

One player i was also mega surprised we werent in for is Clarke-Salter from Chelsea, he is available for transfer for reasonable money, he played brilliantly in championship last season and was ever-present, played great in Chelsea's pre season and has EPL experience - looks like he is off to the pigs on loan, hopefully they can develop him before we snap him up next season ;)

The starting eleven with a key player out injured is worse than a year ago when the starting eleven had all the players fit? I mean obviously it is. That’s not a fault of the squad, it’s a natural result of the injuries that have happened. I’m not really sure what you were expecting – we were hardly going to go out and buy or loan someone as good as O’Connell in that position.

Oh aye, shit happens in regards to injuries.

Berge and Brewster are the only two players we've brought in who challenge that team. It's questionable whether Berge fits our system whatsoever, and we haven't seen anything of Brewster yet.

I do have high hopes for Ampadu, but again, we haven't seen very much of him so far and we don't really know where we intend on playing him.

This would all be fine if we were still playing with the same intensity and quality as this time last year, but we're not.

So all things considered, in my opinion we appear weaker.

My disappointment is we haven't brought in any creative midfield talent. Maybe there's a free agent on the horizon and if not it makes the decision to loan Freeman out even more bizarre than it seemed at the time.

Not at all surprised we haven't signed cover for JOC as we signed Robinson for that, if hes not good enough why did we sign him....as cover for a cover player ???

He will increase our shots/game ratio considerably.

There was definitely 2, maybe 3 chances Sharp had v Wolves, all on his left foot. Brewster would've shot with all 3. Sharp tried squaring them all.

Totally agree. think I made this point on a separate thread on here the other day. I know we’re not great at creating chances, but I don’t think Brewster will need it put on a plate for him like our other strikers seem to do at the moment. Any kind of half chance right now and our strikers (and Billy’s been the worst for it) are either being muscled off the ball, resorting to a pass because they can’t create room, or having a shot blocked. It’s like we need to get the ball to them when they’re completely free with no defender in sight in order to have any kind of attempt on goal. Brewster will only need half a yard.
 
Personally would have loved us to have gone in for Troy Deeney for a season loan. I know midfield creativity is important but i think we get into decent positions etc. I just think his presence and physicality would have been good for us. A proper leader, will give us a bit more bite and 'streetwise' nous and would probably get us 10 goals.

We can only add players who are better than what we have AND who are prepared to come to us at a price and salary we can afford.
I don’t see a long list of players who fit that description hence the lack of additions to what had already been a good window.

Could probably have done with a 'ratter' at the start of this season. Think he would be competition for Lundstram on the right. Wilder didn't seem to like him, and shipped him off after he made his only telling contribution.
